That's rather hypocritical. "We've mugged you off" and "we lumped ourselves with him" and then "you've got a proven 20 goal man".. If we only had 12m to spend and spent it all on him then maybe his last point could be true. But we've already signed a solid centre back , new keeper and our left back injured all last year will be back - and we may well not be done. I reckon that's more sour grapes than honest opinion.

And, seeing as his move to Celtic (champions league plus the manager who's got his best form out of him) hasnt seemed to happen, is perhaps prepared to make more of an effort this season. Looked nailed on to Celtic so something must have changed with either the clubs attitude or his.

People saying we've done nothing yet? We've addressed our biggest two problems, goalkeeper and lack of leadership/centre back. With Elphick we've got ourselves an experienced captain and (hopefully) a rock in defence. Gollini it's too early to see if he's an improvement but it's a key area that's been addressed early on.

He'll do really well at Everton too, really can't blame him for that move. They are spending big and aiming to go places, he'd be one of the first names on the team sheet now people have realised (Kante) how important those sorts of players are to a team again.

I think a lot of the Samuelson 'wariness' comes from "no smoke without fire". There a fair bit of smoke surrounding him, but nothing ever seems substantial. Every claim about him has been 'that seemed a little dodgy' but absolutely no evidence or anything further to go on. I can see why the moderators here are getting anxious with some of the comments about him, and there isn't anything solid to back up any claims. Even the FBI couldn't find anything - but in itself you have to wonder why the FBI were looking at him in the first place. I'm in the 'not quite sure of him' camp, but he's obviously good at what he does. Lets just hope he's here on a completely legitimate basis and he's able to put his talents to use for positive reasons. There, I think that's suitable "on the fence".

If his successor doesn't share his passion for football, I just worry about us being strung up to dry. Because IF the Chinese government is involved you can't see them being particular interested in keeping us self sufficient. It's a lot of IF's I know, but it is a big Unknown, having this sort of ownership.

Calling Julie a 'source' gives her far too much credit. I think she draws a name out of a hat at the beginning of each hat and thinks if she bangs on about it enough, people will eventually start believing her.

No chance we're in for Ings. Liverpool paid more than 8m for him and haven't really even had a chance to play him yet. He's still so young they'll want to hang on. Bamford I can see happening but 10m is a bit of a rip off.

If he's not the finished article, then what better than a year in the championship for him to hone his abilities. It's why loans have often worked out so well (ie Mark Albrighton). Blitz the championship, learn on the way, get us promoted, take new experiences into the premier league and blitz that.

Can you imagine him trying to sell a 22 carat quartz crystal?

It's just all about sales. Now it's online it's all about clicks and page views. I bet their story yesterday about the takeover falling through generates a lot more revenue than today's. It used to be a battle to sell newspapers, you did that by having a reputation of being the best journalists and getting the best stories, developing a loyal customer base. Not any more, it's just about what sensational story can get people to read you adverts or be directed where you want them to.

I can see Newcastle (and possibly, hopefully, us) smashing a few transfer records this summer then. We've seen some ridiculous spending in that league recently though (Andre brown, thanks I couldn't remember his name) so each week could see a new league transfer record. Newcastle, Derby, Sheff Wed, Wolves, Leeds.. All capable of spending a few million on a player or two.

I imagine the 9m on Rhodes is close. Although Burnley spent big on a striker too, that nag have been more than 10..

That's why phrases such as 'sources suggest' and 'we understand that' come in. It becomes a fact, they have been told that and therefore nothing they've said is not true. Doesn't matter who said it or whether they were even told to say it. 'The queen is actually a goat they put a costume on' is a lie. 'I've been informed the queen is a goat they put a costume on' is perfectly true. Or it would be had I been told that, but as a journalist has a right to not reveal their source, you can't prove I wasn't.
