  1. Much nicer. I would guess if this had been presented as the alternative to the round badge rather than the horrid gas lamp badge it would have been a close run thing. Also, cannot believe they are reverting to the Lerner lion when you see them side by side.
  2. The use of the Lerner lion when they have a new superior lion already designed is a clear cost saving Measure. No need to change the standalone Lerner lions that exist around the ground and on our merch now. The leaked badge uses the new Aston Villa font from the round badge so they are clearly not against reusing elements of the new badge, just not the lion. I think this aspect annoys me the most. Can’t wait to see how they try to spin this when it is unveiled. I would have a lot more respect for Heck if he was honest and said it is a cost saving measure to have a badge refresh rather than redesign, so we can focus funds on our playing squad. Instead we will no doubt get some flowery marketing language about how the ‘classic’ lion has more ‘heritage’ and ‘recognition’.
  3. Realistically it’s the first week after Xmas break and they are probably operating with reduced staff like most work places. Doubt they are cancelling leave for the marketing and management staff over a Twitter meltdown. Probably be some movement early next week.
  4. That’s what I thought. It’ll be a good advert for MS clip art though
  5. The next Heck masterstroke will be delaying the new kits.
  6. The consultation was completed by Oct 13th and new badge was shared with FAB and registers as Trademark on 21st Dec. Whilst this isn’t a huge amount of time given approvals, revisions etc. it is surely long enough to produce something more inspiring that what has been shared. It’s no exaggeration to say that the shared crest could have been knocked up in an hour or two. It uses almost entirely recycled images, fonts and motifs, and basic shapes. This MUST have been produce in house, right? Or will a design house have this badge proudly displayed on their portfolio webpage soon like Dragon Rouge does with the current badge? Not if they want to work again in the future!
  7. Now I am resigned to this terrible badge I am kind of looking forward to the shit storm on Twitter when this is ‘revealed’. Should be entertaining at least and Heck will get plenty of honest ‘fan consultation’.
  8. The funny thing is that this new badge is so similar to the existing badge that is probably didn't need a fan consultation. Likely that the FA would approve it on the basis that it is not materially different to the existing, similar to how lots of badges (including the Lerner badge previously) are subject to incremental changes.
  9. If they want to keep the current shape and colours why not just replace AVFC on the current badge with ASTON VILLA? You could stack them vertically if this fits better in the space. I’m sure 1874 could also be squeezed in somewhere in the existing layout. Then you could just paste this new badge over the existing one around the ground. There you go, I’ve just saved even more money on the ‘rebranding’.
  10. This is my only glimmer of hope that this is not the final badge. Why would it be so different to the Av150 mark, including the basic colours? Why can we never be consistent with our own colours and brand? How hard is it to have a standard Aston Villa Claret and Aston Villa Blue colour code? Would seem to be the most very basic part of brand management.
  11. Why have they kept the new font but not the new lion?
  12. Why is this a different colour palate to the AV150 mark? Not the final design?
  13. Lose the drop shadow and reinstate the current OR 90s lion and I don’t hate it. Those design choices are unforgivable though as it stands. Praying the trademark listing is just the basic design elements and not the final design.
  14. Is it possible that the trademark is just for the design elements and not the actual final product? i.e the placement and shape of the badge elements: crest, lion, star, year, name etc. I am clutching at straws because I just cannot understand why NSWE would sign this off. It’s so amateurish.
  15. First impressions: - The drop shadow is contemptible. Actually cannot believe a self-respecting professional designer in 2024 has produced a badge with a Web 2.0 style drop shadow. -The badge retains the Lerner lion, which is worse than both the new lion and the 90s lion. -The shape and font are fine; but it’s so close to the 2nd Lerner badge that it is basically not worth updating. Basically do not see the point of this update and it makes me wonder if this is somehow a money shaving exercise, since it retains a similar shape and colours to the Lerner badge. Why else would we be so unambitious?
  16. You’d have to be down on your luck or punching well above your weight to consider this job. Since Rowett left in 2016 no manager has lasted more than 18 months at the club, several have managed much less than this including Rooney’s 3 month effort. Guaranteed career killer for any manager on the up or with credit in the bank like Cooper, Potter etc.
  17. As this point I just hope they at least put the money in to make all the existing facilities as good as possible. Would be nice if we could have the best version of villa park that is possible within the current constraints. Still feels like we are away off that given the state of the catering and toilet facilities.
  18. They’re playing 4D chess over in small Heath. Next move is to get relegated to League 1 so they can start a Netflix TV show about their rise through the leagues.
  19. I cannot imagine anything more embarrassing for the new owners and CEO than buying a football club, sacking a successful manager who was flying high, installing a controversial ‘big name’ manager, claiming he will bring ‘no fear’ style football, going on a historic bad run (worst in the league), and then sacking said manager at the first opportunity. Ladies and gentlemen: the new Birmingham City Football Club. Same as the old one.
  20. Came on as late sub on Saturday when we were chasing a goal and won us the game. If Emery has a problem with him that’s a funny way of showing it.
  21. Believe it or not this actually hit the mainstream today on the TalkSPORT “Warm-up” radio show with Max Rushdon and Barry Glendenning. They play guess the attendance on their Sunday show with comedian Justin Moorhouse using the Saturday fixtures. Max changed the fixture last minute to the villa game and was frantically trying to google the attendance in real time to no avail. Then Barry plus all the producers were trying to find it online as well and this took up about 2 minutes of air time with no one able to find the attendance before the whole game was abandoned and the show ended in farce Heck has a lot to answer for!
  22. Phew, safely into the new year still in the top 4. Jan should be a month where we get some key players back whilst some of our rivals are losing key players to AFCON and Asia cup. Bring it on.
  23. Just catching up. So to summarise this thread: - FAB meeting held 20th Dec - Meeting minutes released by club 22nd Dec - FAB issues additional responses / clarifications to meeting minutes 27th Dec - FAB reports club to FA for failing to properly consult fans on badge redesign process (!!) 28th Dec - Club asks FAB to make statement / clarification that FA have in fact confirmed that the badge redesign has followed the proper consultation process 28th Dec (later) Hell of a week. Wonder what that has done to Club - FAB relations. Seems pretty frosty at best.
  24. Assuming the construction cost is really northwards of £100m it must be very hard to justify that outlay from the clubs perspective. Hard to see how we increase revenue to the extent that we cover the cost of the building works any time soon. Be interesting to see if any other stadium upgrade plans get off the ground in next couple of years with construction costs and inflation being what they are.
  25. I’m sick of the badge stuff, just want them to pick and stick with a design. They can’t win really. Many people have said previously that the new round badge was too concerned with fan feedback and designed by committee, and therefore basically a rehash of the 1980s badge. Now the club are being accused of ignoring fans opinions and designing their own vision. Whilst the FAB are complaining about this, many have said in the past that this was the correct approach all along. So it’s basically impossible to please everyone and your views on the approach to the design and consultation probably boils down whether you like the end product or not.
