  1. In summary: -I think we are OK for striker options unless Wesley goes down badly injured. -I would have liked to have kept Green for wing back-up and late game substitutions. The rest is all gravy.
  2. Maybe looking to keep some wonga back for the January window? We will know which areas we need to strengthen by then to make the final push for the top 6
  3. The writing was on the wall when news got out that Kienen would not be allowed to go on loan. We're sticking with what we have. 3 strikers is enough IF they are all trusted by coaches to do a job in the premier league...but I think this makes everyone nervous, especially if Wesley was to get an injury early in the season.
  4. So no mention of the deal being done pending a work permit like the Luiz annoucement. I take this to mean that any visa issues are already sorted? Hopefully UK immigration have sorted Luiz's permit at the same time.
  5. Outstanding business. He has been in the England squad as recently as the Nations League finals last month! Worth it just to say we have an England international on the books again. Soon to be joined by Super Jack and Tyrone...
  6. Big difference from being ‘released’. I’d be shocked if we aren’t paying his wages for the next year given the contract he must be on.
  7. I actually think Taylor could play the left side in a back 3. I am always surprised by how good a defender he actually is, he rarely gets beaten or embarrassed by wingers down the left side. The problem is he is awful and carrying the ball forward and overlapping, which is essential in this Dean Smith team, so he simple cannot play at left back for us.
  8. Such an obvious weak link in our attacking play today. Only thing you can say about Taylor is he’d be good to bring on when your winning and trying to see out last 10 mins of the game.
  9. What a strange strange time that period was.
  10. Wow another centre back through the door! It’s like our defence has been Bjorn again...
  11. Please let this be true for the glorious ‘What Samatta with you eh?’ chant that we could have.
  12. Yeah I bet the next version of the rules will state that assets have to be sold to a verified third party in order to realise a profit or some such.
  13. Interesting that we still had to ‘sell’ the stadium despite being promoted. Makes me nervous if we get relegated next year as this is a trick you can only pull once. That being said I doubt the new owners would pull such a reckless gamble like Xia did and back us into a corner again with FFP.
  14. I'm wearing my WWSBD bracelet right now.
  15. Agree with this. I expect clubs will start selling soon rather than letting players with one foot already out the door go back for pre-season training and overseas tours etc, and vice versa, clubs will want players through the door before or early into pre-season.
  16. I was just thinking this. He could be 5th choice by the time Man Utd have finished their transfer business if the links to Maguire etc are true.
  17. So by my count the transfer window has been open for 40 days now and we are about half way towards the 8th August deadline...and there have been only 9 completed signings for Premier League clubs. 3 of which were for Villa! Yep not a typo...a third of all transfer activity in the Premier League so far is by Villa. It's an even higher proportion of you count the Wesley deal as basically complete! When the hell will this window get going?! Is everyone waiting for 1st July when many of the European leagues open?
  18. Personally I think the 'step up' to the prem is overblown. I think there is very little difference really between the top 6 of the championship and bottom 6 of prem, and there are plenty of players in the championship who would shine in better quality prem teams. Just because you come through a premier league academy or from a foreign league does not make you better than those rising up the EFL pyramid. It's a shame that championship teams have figured this out and are pricing their top players accordingly, so the bargains are few and far between now.
  19. Could be some lean years coming up at WBA if the owner can't even get a £4m investment out of China (a pittance in modern football). How many clubs have been promoted to the PL in recent years without the benefit of owner investment?
  20. This was a no brainer really. He showed more than enough to justify his £3 million fee whilst on loan. The beauty of a loan with an option is the fee can go from looking like an expensive risk to a bargain over the duration of the loan. Not a chance Wolves would sell for that price to a rival premier league team now if the agreement was not already in place.
  21. ...and take a transfer ban for their troubles.
  22. Class goalie and a player I have always rated. Get it done lads.
