Chromebooks (Chromebox, Chromebit) would seem to be the obvious choice for most users. They have their own thread. Cheaper than Windows laptops and you don't need to pay for anti-virus, anti-malware or to have it re-installed when you get infected. Not much use for your current machine, but worth looking at next time you are purchasing.

Pete, It think you are missing the point about consent. Windows 10 is enrolling people into these conditions without consent. The other services you list require consent. While it's lovely that they give choices, it would be nice if they gave users control and the ability to be forgotten. They only give choices to a subset of the data they collect. Several posters in this thread have linked the sites containing the additional (continually changing) steps you have to take to keep up with the snooping Microsoft don't give you choices about.

How so? They've taken a copy of your data without consent. They've given themselves the right to use it as they see fit by their T&Cs. Therefore they own a copy of your data which they've stolen. You have no way to get this data removed nor returned.

You have to consent to use Google. Also, they allow you to remove all your data (and yes, they actually, really do - they have enough users that a few leaving make no difference to them). By using Windows 10 you consent to Microsoft having and using your data in perpetuity, which is identical to them stealing and owning it, especially as they are implementing this without consent. It's almost certainly a breach of the CMA but they own enough lobbyists to stop anything being pursued legally. I don't understand the people who express annoyance at the way Windows 10 has been forced on them, but still go back for more.

When they are prepared to do something like this to you, why would you continue using their products at all? You are now subject to their stealing and owning all of your content. I don't understand how that can be acceptable to anyone.
  7. I think it's the same as the quote and spoiler boxes that sometimes get stuck. I'm sure they're working on it. I think I can stop it being accepted, but then things like pasting tweets stops working.

So what are you going to do about it?
  9. The editor doesn't support tables. If you need to do this you'll have to edit the HTML elsewhere and paste it in. The IP.Board forums might have more information.
  10. There is no way to know. This could be something mocked up an unknown time in the past.

Please can people stop talking about cars in the Top Gear thread please?
  12. If only there was a whole forum for questions like this. Click Activity at the top of the page. Click "unread content"
  13. No. It means he was a convenient accountant to act as a placeholder.
  14. You don't appreciate the irony that they're paying for this site?

It's still reporting back everything you do. Just wait until they start turning on the pay per use features. Then you can pay them to steal all your data. Even Facebook aren't that brazen.
  16. Or of course see the Villa VIew blog by clicking on blogs at the top of the page or the right side bar.
  17. If it gets confirmed on the OS, can someone start a new thread please?
  18. I guess it'll be the under-18s, not the first team.
  19. If you post enough rumours as "stories" then occasionally you'll score a hit. It doesn't mean they've got any better sources than anyone else. They do have a platform to say "look we told you so" for the rare hits. Why do you think in any week you can find stories in the media that "it's going to be the hottest summer on record" and "it's going to be the coldest summer on record"? It's because our cognitive biases lead us to both remember the hits more than the misses and better remember things that conform to our own preconceptions. We are hard-wired to do this and it requires concious effort to think sceptically and recognise it for what it is. But this thread isn't the place to discuss psychology..
  20. "Teams can only play in the Champions League if they can prove at least four organisations faking their official shirts." I can't imagine any way that could be bypassed.
  21. This poll will be open for the first week of the month.
  22. Wouldn't the FIFA checks simply involve a bulging brown envelope? UEFA already have a test. They'll be desperately writing new rules to make sure a Leicester can't happen to their Champions League again in future.
  23. You cut the pertinent part of what I said: "He's never been charged with anything let alone convicted. Fans at other clubs making allegations based on poor information does not affect his status in the slightest." Sating that he's been "of interest" is irrelevant. So little credence was behind these allegations that there hasn't been an investigation. I'm not saying that Samuelson is guilty or innocent, I'm saying that rumours about him will not be used to assess the takeover. Only the facts as pertains to the written list of tests. Are you suggesting that the FL/PL are somehow better equipped to judge someone's guilt than the authorities whose job it is? The rules as listed by @Godders suggest otherwise. They list specific legal tests.
