From: Darren Bent V.2

It's become a matter of great discussion, about how important Darren Bent is to our future prospects and success. For what it is worth, if we had Young and Downing supplying from the wings, I would have Darren Bent in the team every single week. The problem is, we do not create the chances Darren thrives on, and thrived on under the attacking threat from both Downing and Young. Simply, without the ammo, Darren is less of a threat. In my eyes, we cannot risk playing somebody who offers so l

Swindon

Back from the game, and well, i dont quite know what to say about that...... First things first..... last minute winners away from home in the cup are bloody epic, and I dont care who it was against, but moments like that are what football addicts out of us. Absolutely fan-bloody-tastic, the away end went mental. More rationally, we look very at home at this level. Defensively we are just a joke. Comical really. First half we played OK, we contained the expected rush early on, put

Not Good Enough

Well, that wasn't very pretty, was it? I wrote on twitter that I felt uncomfortable about being outplayed (and we were very outplayed) by Norwich. Alan Hansen reportedly described our performance as embarrassing, and while i dont usually have much time for the miserable sweaty, on this occasion he was right. it was embarrassing. I dont do knee jerk reactions, and while I remain confident that we will come through this, I'm not *quite* as confident as I was before. For me, what has changed

Is Norwich a must-win?

I hate the term 'must-win'. Apart from being over-used, it is more often than not mis-used too. Saturday's early kick off (12:45BST) against Norwich City in isolation is probably not must-win for our prospects of staying in the league, any more than say a match against any likely-struggler like Norwich would be. After all, it is only game number 9 of a 38 game season and we're not currently in the bottom 3. So technically it's not must-win. Now in saying all of that, having not won in 4 mat

Villa - A car that won't start

The metaphor I would use to describe Villa at the moment is that of a car that is stuttering to start. But once it does it will be fine. I don't mind that our start has been poor. Most would not have expected an easy transition from a McLeish side. Granted we probably didn't expect the worst start in a generation, but that's what we have. We still need to look at it objectively and not start self-harming over statistics though. We are going through a phase where it appears that we can't

Tic Tacs

Welcome to "Deadly Doug ate my hamster". I hope you enjoy .... feel free to interact :-) So, I was watching Chelsea on the old telly box at the weekend, and I think I've seen the future, or the present, or something, of where Lambert wants to take Villa - and I notice Aston Villa Review agrees with me, although I'll need to listen to the podcast to find out why .. I am listening as I type, so will let you know..... Chelsea are, albeit at a very different level, going through the same kin

    • Summerville's price would be interesting particularly as Villa were watching him aged 16. At the same time as Ryan Gravenburch and Amadou Onana. 3 good pick ups they would have been but times were a bit different then.
    • Now that we are definitely saying at VP we need to understand the long term plan. Adding 1,500 hospitality seats is meaningful to us at the moment (will be worth multi millions over a year) but in the grand scheme of things is a drop of water in the ocean. We have to replace the North stand and the Doug Ellis asap as that’s where the huge match day commercial opportunity lies .
    • Lo Celso is a superbly gifted player, technically exactly the type of player Emery seems to love. Im not really saying we should or shouldnt be in for him as a squad player, but he is technically superb and i have personally thought he has looked very good whenever i have seen him play for spurs. maybe he is inconsistent and not overly good at times, dunno, but when i have seen him, he is very easy on the eye.
    • @lainux in addition ...   A lot of people have suggested that there is room for extra seats in the current footprint.  There used to be more anyway, so why couldn't they be reintroduced? Profile/rake can be modified, and concourse gaps can be filled. There is 100% the possibility to add 700+ seats without moving anyone out their current seat. There may well be the opportunity to add even more.  I dont think it's a given that they will force anyone to move.  Call me naive, but I reckon the ~1300 Heck mentions is mostly new seats. It aligns with the total capacity they're claiming we'll have,  and aligns with his latest comments about keeping costs the same for everyone currently there, but increasing them for those that are willing to pay a surplus. The relatively small percentage that isn't moving people, will hopefully be those seats that usually go on general sale. It's easily done, and I really think Heck has learnt his lesson from the lower grounds debacle.
    • He seems to have done nothing at spurs because he keeps getting dropped for no apparent reason after a pretty good performance. Emery, having worked with him and extolled his virtues before, seems to know he's a brilliant player.  If we go back in for him,  I trust that it's because Emery thinks he'll improve our squad, and Monchi thinks we'll be able to get him for a relatively decent price. If we dont sign him,  then fair enough, but if we do it's because he'll be a good value addition to our squad.
    • I don't think it's odd, since Unai came in signings have been made on the down low, we barely hear anything and then bam signing done. I think that with Monchi here now, targets will have been identified and we will go about our business as quietly as possible. We are in a new era now, we don't **** about and I for one am happy about. Gone are the days of us being linked with every possible player looking for a move and then being disappointed when inevitably they don't sign for us. I feel very confident we will sign one if not two new fullbacks, if the deals can be done without having our pants pulled down.
    • And the weirdest thing about what he's done is that the leaked badge and the AU500 have absolutely fk all in common.  They're totally alien to each other. On brand? My arse.
    • Think he's going to be more like Duran in the sense it won't really be until his third season where he gets significant minutes though expect him to be a bit part player next year.
    • Well where will new seats go, there isn't anywhere? Had to be upgrade of premium seats.
    • Think all Sheff Weds need to do to stay up is win at Sunderland.
