Villan4Life Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Lad is on fire something like 18 goals in last 10 games, already 5 career hat-tricks at 21, and 21 goals already this season Worth a punt? Him coming on as a impact sub got to be better than Heskey or Fonz. imagine Gabby, Bent and Rhodes all at once! Was thinking to time when Newcastle took a punt on a goalscorer named Andy Cole from Bristal City and look how that turned out! Rhodes very much in the Cole/Darren Bent mould. Whats everyone else think?
sir_gary_cahill Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 yes, looks a very good prospect, would like to see us take a punt on him, he would supplement our strikeforce nicely
sir_gary_cahill Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 huddersfield CI, 48 goals in 98 games for them
Villan4Life Posted November 19, 2011 Author Posted November 19, 2011 Huddersfield he joined them after banging in loads for Ipswich youth team (like a certain Mr D. Bent did)
The_Rev Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 I would imagine a lot of Premier League clubs are looking at him at the moment, having made his international debut for Scotland last week (he was born in the famous Scottish city of Oldham...) He looks like a very good striker and I think Huddersfield will do well to hold onto him after this summer. Hopefully they will be able to keep him in January though, I would hate to see him leave a team going for promotion just to sit on the bench at a Premier League side or chasing a lost cause at some shit like Wigan.
sir_gary_cahill Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 a move to someone like wigan might be good for him though rev, he could adjust to the pace of the league and score a bucketload and then move to a bigger club i.e us
The_Rev Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Aye, but not in January. I hope he sees the season out at Huddersfield and helps them get promoted.
sir_gary_cahill Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Aye, but not in January. I hope he sees the season out at Huddersfield and helps them get promoted. oh right yes agreed, i thought you meant in jan
Zatman Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 probably lazy journalism but was linked with Old Firm after making his Scotland debut. Think with that record he should move up to gradually and maybe play a season in Championship.
CI Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Ive always thought our plan should be to scour the lower leagues for English talent Buying young talent, developing and keeping some and selling some seems a sustainable strategy
sir_gary_cahill Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 agreed CI, tottenham did it with dawson, reid and bale etc look where they are now
CI Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 Yep, think we should have taken Long off Reading, but alas we can keep looking
sir_gary_cahill Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 agreed and shipped heskey out and we would've had a very good strikeforce
The_Rev Posted November 19, 2011 Posted November 19, 2011 You must defeat Shane Long to stand a chance.
Zatman Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 You must defeat Shane Long to stand a chance. Hutton came close to it
AndyClarke Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Decent finisher, not convinced he has enough at the top level, although his form is remarkable at the moment. I can see a struggling Premier League club signing him in January for an over inflated fee and then chucking him in under massive pressure to perform and keep them in the division. I imagine he will be prolific at the lower levels but I don't think he will be a Premier League striker of note.
Zatman Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 didnt john stead come from huddersfield as well? could be similar he started amazing in PL and went downhill after that
