Gone: Downing shows real loyalty to us

If we hold out for a big enough fee for Downing that would cover the cost of purchasing both N'Zogbia and Foster, then would most people think that the club had done good business?
Not really as I would be asking where is the rest of the money? As we need more than just two players

I think he meant with regards to that exchange scenario. I agree but it would be even better if we got Given in for a fraction of the cost of Foster.

If you read the press today, basically they don't have a clue what is happening with Downing, nobody does at the moment. One thing we know, from with Gareth Barry and Milner, Villa are more than happy to play hardball over player values.

Why would Villa sudenly change this and let our best player from last season go for less money than he is worth to us?

Downing out, N'Zog and Foster in would be a great bit of business.

Sort it out.

It's just not enough. We need more quality players to have a "decent" season this year. I for one am not happy with a bottom 10 finish.

Not really. Because once again we wouldn't be improving. We'd be selling just to stand still

Not that I think N'Zogbia is anything like the team player Downing is

He shouldnt be selling Downing.. He needs to find out why he wants out.. Are we lacking in ambition? Are there problems behind the scenes?

Why has a happy player who got player of the season for the club. Then on the Villa site had a conversation with fans saying he loves the club and cant wait to sign a new contract..All of a sudden decided he wants to leave to play for a club on a similar standing to us? Whats upset him at Villa?

The only thing thats changed since his converstaion on the Villa site to now, is the manager...

I agree...We shouldnt be selling Downing..We should be "adding" to the squad to improve it..Not selling our best players.

What happened to shifting out the deadwood? Has that idea been scrapped in favour of selling the best players?

Mcleish out!

Obviously get a few more players in aswell. We wont just sign those pair and leave it at that.

Of course its improving us. N'Zogbia is arguably as good as Downing and is also younger, whilst at the same time were getting and England international GK. Losing good player, getting 2 good players in. I dont know how that couldnt be percieved as improving.

According to you yesterday it was because Houllier left. Whats changed? Or was that just you making stuff up again?? Downing is wanted by a bigger club who can pay him more money. Thats why he wants to leave. Wake the **** up.

Errrr...how about the thought that Downing has been tapped indirectly through his agent, and also the fact that he might just want to play for a better team with better calibre players.

Just something for you to have a think about.

McLeish for the win!

Funny, because his comments came on the 26th may, 5 days before Houllier had even left the club and 3 weeks before a manager was appointed.

So what absolute bollocks. Nothing had changed between his first set of comments and then his next comments.

So Houllier stepping down was a factor? Maybe the McLeish appointment wasnt the reason but it certainly hasnt given him a change of heart. So was this an appointment thats fits in with the club? As GK clearly suggested the club were looking for?

No, an England International with a creative spark for a problem child and a relegated keeper.

Steaknchips, why does everything have to be a conspiracy theory? Or someone is to blame ie. the new gaffer or Houllier leaving?

Can you not just accept that Downing has had his head turned one way or another, and wants to play for a bigger club than Villa?

It really is that simple.

This. If you cant see the signals that the appointment of McLeish sends out then you must be blind or stupid!

or, yes, an England International with a creative spark for another player with creative spark and a very good keeper.

Guess it's what way you want to look at it...

Dont talk shite, since when has N'Zogbia caused a problem? And Foster, like it or not is a cracking keeper.

Scott Parker got relegated with West Ham, does that make him shite?

Downing just wants to play for a better club!

If your outside the top 5 (Man U, Chelsea, Man City, Arsenal, Liverpool) and Liverpool come calling, you leave.
