Tough ask this cup for PL teams that field academy's ( not cribbing btw, invaluable experience against senior pros. ) but it's no coincidence the success of academies in this cup has been limited. All about performance for me. You are looking for a few to stand out from the crowd in these type games.

I expect we will lose quite a few games at U23 level as well, but if that's the case it won't mean that the way our academy is being run is wrong, it's just what happens when you play very young teams against much older players, Albion do the same, play very young teams and lose a lot of matches, but the experience proves to be the main thing and they produce a lot of good players because of it.

I imagine that's pretty much a win-win for the EFL as far as they're concerned; they get to placate some Premier League suits with giving young talent a go in "competitive" football; but it leaves carrot of a potentially much-needed big day out at Wembley for the lower league teams.

JPB and Jacob Ramsey the pick of the bunch in the first half. A number of others understandably struggling

Agree with that and think Mungo has looked decent too. Shame Chukuemeka hasn’t got into the game yet. We seem to lack height in the team which would be handy against these lower league teams.

Hopefully we can do better in the second half but Not uncommon for the academy teams to be defeated heavily, just looking at some scores from last year Accrington Stanley beat Liverpool 5-2, Shrewsbury beat Newcastle 3-0, Bolton beat Man City 3-1... Tonight Oxford are beating Chelsea by two goals, and Accrington Stanley are beating Leeds 5-1.

Another Sunderland goal from a corner. We don’t like them much.

Team looks too weak you can see the physically factor. Thats why these youngsters don't do well against senior sides

Remember liverpools kids vs us last year?

Yep, and this is a really young team for u23 standards.
