When to Redditch on Saturday. A really good win, should have been more that 2-0. In control for large parts of the game. So our goals, the first was a free kick from the edge of the area from Vassilev. Looked like it when through the wall. The second was scored by Ramsey, capitalising on a miss placed pass well in the Redditch half. Dribbled towards goal, went by a defender before side footing home from inside the area. In the Secord half we had plenty of chances. Odutayo should had a couple, Guy headed one against the post, Brunt and Vassilev firing over.

Also, ex-villa youth keeper Kieran Boucher played the first 45 for Redditch.

With the official outlets not covering the U23 preseason friendlies I thought I’d post the general match details. A sort of ‘For the record’ type of thing that the programme used to publish. I’m a player short for the Kidderminster, but if the club sort out player pics on the website I maybe able to ID him.

Did you go to all of those matches Unused Sub? If so, how was Anton Hooper?

Managed to get to 3 games. So Hooper:

Kiddy - Did alright

Hereford - struggled (like the team in general)

Redditch - was quiet going forward (most attacked were down the other (left) wing).

Was under the impression that Cox had been released (if it is Jordan Cox). Josh Williams plays for Morecambe. Lomax and Coates play for Stratford Town.

Also we have a player whose surname is Kes(s)ler, and a goalkeeper Jamie Searle.

Shame that the official AVFC site is only showing the First Team squad.

Yeah I'm aware of a few of those but they're u18. So I'll add the younger ones if and when they turn out for the u23s (which they probably will).

It’s Kaine Kessler, thanks for the rest of your information

There's now a glaringly obvious pattern in the age group of our "U23s".  Only one of the remaining players is over 20 years old.  That's Jack Clarke at 20y188days.  Even then there's only three players at 19 years old.  That's Callum Rowe (19y338d), Isaiah Bazeley-Graham (19y184d) & Anton Hooper (19y180d).  You then have 12 players at 18 and four more at 17.  Although at that point the line between the u23 and the u18 squad kind of blurs.

So it's been a case of 'clear them out and start again' then basically?

Yes. A general 'if you haven't made it by 20 then you're not good enough for Villa'. IIRC Clarke trained with the first team recently so that's why he's still around.

Not a bad philosophy to be honest. I think you could argue that we've actually hampered the careers of young players who we've kept around for too long.

Not sure if this is the right place but we've signed an 18-year-old Kiwi goalkeeper, Jamie Searle.

It's not a bad place for it, although just as an FYI we usually stick news in the academy thread :thumb:
