Copa America 2019

So the 46th edition of Copa America is being held in Brazil and starts on June 14.

For reasons that absolutely has nothing to do with money Qatar and Japan are also taking part in the tournament this year.

The home nations biggest name Neymar has just pulled out because of "injury" but there will be loads and big names playing.

And since Messi ended his biannual retirement from the national side he will lead Argentina. Fully expect him to once again retire unless they win the tournament,

And then come back in good time before the WC.

These are the groups. Home nation with a somewhat favorable draw shocker.

Hope not I would hope we know of these players. Any under the radar wont get work permits

More teams than just Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina in the tournament.

You think the club has a scout in South America following the Peruvian and Colombian league.

While the top players will be playing in Europe this doesn't go for every talented one.

Still player who it will be possible to get WP's for playing in South America.

always 2 invites, think the last one was the yanks and maybe mexico, japan have taken a really young team, almost like a Olympic U23 team

That Takefusa Kubo kid is supposed to be "The Japanese Messi" :D

Spent a couple of years at La Masia until they had to release him for breaking FIFA rules when signing him.

Linked to PSG now.

was it him who's parents just so happened to be offered a great job by a company in the centre of Barcelona so he just had to move along with them?

they had him, a couple of south Koreans and about 4 from the eto'o academy in Cameroon, none of them made it

Would rather we scout these leagues than players in tournaments. Anybody can look good in 3 week tournament

Sure, but no Championship club has a dedicated south America scout (Leeds perhaps due to Bielsa).

Might be misguided but I have faith/hope in the club to not just pick the MOTM and hand over £15m without further scouting.

I would say at a guess we cast an eye over it or have some sort of 3rd party link to it but a designated SA scout? We can't get work permits for half of them so it's a wasted resource

Yep the work permit thing makes it a bit pointless unless got dodgy European roots

Watching Argentina and Colombia. Still scoreless just before half time, but the Colombians are causing Argentina all kinds of trouble. Their work rate and pressing is unreal.

The game has also been insanely physical, and not just a little theatrical.

What happened to South American football?

The money from Europe killed the game in South America. Before players could develop at home in a local style and then move to Europe. Now these guys are barely out of nappies and are sold to rich European clubs often against their will

There's something utterly odious about Messi these days, just his body language and what can be a total lack of leadership on a football pitch in some really important occasions. Ronaldo is much more likeable.

Haha no....

ronaldos "leadership" like his face when he didn't get best player at the nations league? It's ok though cos he posted on Instagram all his personal achievements just to remind everyone how good he is
