I was brought up about 40 mins from Birmingham so had a number of clubs to "choose" from as a kid (Dad was a life long Chesham fan!) Villa was the first game ever went to, stood in Holte End before all seating came in and watched us draw to Wimbledon. Never forget the first time I saw the inside of the stadium and heard the noise. Been in my blood ever since.

The one remaining hope here is that we seem to be covering off a lot of the other gaps in our squad for next to no money. So maybe some money is left over for the big one!

+1 Take it up with Limpid in the site issues forum. Though be brave. A bug bear of mine too. Only way around it is to "Mark All as Read" which then takes you to the latest post in every thread. Or there is a link at bottom of the site to go to original rather than mobile site - which then gives you option to click on last page. Be nice if they could just sort it out though because both ways are a bit of a pain

You clearly are a tactical genius Fingers crossed he can cross a ball, still irks me that we have the best header in the league but barely gave him a sniff from an open play cross all season. This way if teams sit back we can hit them this way too. A ploy MON used to great effect with Carew (ducks for cover...)

The one thing you have to say about Lambert is that he has balls the size of watermelons. When he was getting all the abuse last year he kept saying we will keep with our philosophy of giving young players a chance. Then our form turned up, we stayed up and he said I always believed it was the right approach and we will do the same in the summer. I think we all knew that would be true but thought surely he would get some experience in for the CB slot. But no, it looks like he has gone out and found the hottest up and coming talent he can. No doubt he will make mistakes but potentially he could turn into a great asset for us. I remember watching us under the one who shall not be named and I was just bored more than anything. Last season while very painful was anything but boring and it looks like next season will be more of the same! I'm all in...

Think this was probably the case. We enquired, possibly bid but weren't able to close the deal. No big shock there. By saying nothing to UK press all along it allows us to say he was never on radar.

Yep other sources have made similar assumptions after his comments yesterday. Long way to go on this yet, and remember we are Aston Villa fans, it's very very rare we get this lucky so bear the stats in mind too...

I'm guessing as this is most likely BS but possibly spend the Bent money on Cornelius. Probably less than £10m in both cases - then gradually bring him into the team with a view to replacing Benteke if he goes next summer.

I think PL would pull out long before if they tried to go down this route. Remember they way he dealt with Dempsey, Clyne last summer, he only wants people who want to play for Villa. Hopefully someone is making Belhanda (and his agent) aware of this. My money is still on Arsenal

Kendrick generally gets the news when we are going to sign someone. The club tells him what they want him to know. In this instance it looks like they have told him that we have enquired but not bid. This way if we don't sign him we don't lose face. Could be entirely likely that we have bid and are waiting to see how player negotiations go before releasing any more news. That would seems to "tally" with how we have done our recent transfers (i.e. as under the radar as possible until its done)
