  1. What seems to (constantly) get lost in all the discussion about our badge, is the fact that our colours are claret and blue. The 150 marque is predominantly claret and beige. The Lerner badge was predominantly blue and yellow. The one thing that I enjoyed about the two options given by Purslow is that both were predominantly claret and blue. I fully understand the need for a third color and if it has to be "gold" then so be it (even though every single kit we've worn since about 1910 has been claret, blue and white), but gold/beige/yellow should not be one of the two predominant colours on our badge. Furthermore, the other two claret and blue premier league clubs have bloody gold on their badge! Give me the Scunthorpe colour scheme all day! (not the actual design though - it's awful)
  2. I thought there was a massive waiting list for season tickets? So, if true, how can a new stand not be logical?
  3. Similar feelings.... Just when I had begun to "re-programme" myself to Unai's Villa, we blew it at Old Trafford and all the bad memories came flooding back.... I considered the same as you - to going long to bypass the press, but then with Varane and Evans, in particular, being dominant in the air I just couldn't see a way of playing that would have allowed us to get back into any sort of rhythm. I was hoping we would bring on Duran and Zaniolo a bit earlier to compete for long balls with their centre-backs, and change how we were playing, but to be fair, Utd had so much momentum at that point, the result was inevitable.....
  4. He was being pushed and manhandled by the defender. Probably just grabbed whatever was there to keep his balance. That's the frustrating bit with referees, they have no ability to see/analyse the big picture....

    Away Form

I think the conventional wisdom for an away team in general is to keep things tight, hope to quieten the home crowd and grow into the game, playing in a counter-attacking way. And that simply is not the way Unai wants us to play. Teams now are also setting up to play deep and get men behind the ball against us. Frustrating for us to watch as we try to break teams down, but imagine being a home supporter and your team has eleven men behind the ball and hoping to nick a goal and build momentum. Wolves, Bournemouth, Forest and now Brentford all happy to sit deep and defend at home - reminds me of the Lambert days at Villa!
  6. Unai: "This match is a chance for some players to play." MOMENTARY PAUSE Unai: "Not you Calum, please sit back down."
  7. To answer your question, no they didn't. The only two moments when Emi was troubled were the miscommunication with Watkins at the near post from a corner and the disallowed (multiple handball) Havertz goal. I was actually very surprised that Emi got Man of the Match on the official site. He was his usual composed, dominant self, but aside from a fairly routine stop from Odegaard he barely had a save to make. Come to think of it, maybe the AVFC Official site gave it to him to wind up the gooners... I love how Ian Wright constantly harps on about our high line. He'd have been offside 20 times a match if he was playing us today!
  8. Bournemouth have won 4 out of the last 5, including beating Saudi Arabia FC, ManUre (away), Palace (away) and Sheffield (away). Our draw at their place looks like a better result every day....
  9. I think as the season progresses there are going to be loads of media references to Villa "doing a Leicester" and it will be far more annoying than the year we came up when we were referred to as "doing a Fulham."
  10. I was there for the first and now I'm 5,000 miles away...
  11. That's why we were by-passing midfield in the second half. Emi was taking long kicks. You can't pull your central midfielders out of central midfield. Odergard and Havertz would have had the freedom of Villa Park! Regarding Zinchenko, most of his passing isn't good-enough quality, he's hardly a creative force, and Emery would know that, plus his tendency to push inside and high was exactly the reason why we scored. Martinelli always comes short and Jesus simply doesn't have the pace or guile to beat our high line. When Ramsey came on, he moved McGinn to the right and Zinchenko barely got a kick after that.
  12. Arteta: "Aston Villa did not have any chances yet we lost 1-0." Are you THAT stupid/blind/arrogant Lego Head? If we didn't have any chances then how did we manage to score a goal you numpty. Not to mention the saves by Raya from Digne and Watkins. Our goalkeeper made a couple of routine stops and there was one correctly disallowed. I am taking a strong disliking to this bloke. Always excuses, always blaming officials when his team doesn't win.
  13. And if you get the chance, watch the Palace-Dippers highlights and look at what Ayew got his two yellows for....
  14. The Year....?..... We had a goalkeeper who was superb, imperious almost, yet had been rejected by Arsenal. We had a pair of full-backs who were solid defensively and adventurous going forward, full of energy. Our Number 6 was a combination of all things that you want from a central midfield player. Good on the ball. Covered ground. Got forward. Never flustered. Led by example. We had a Scottish Number 7 who epitomized the energy of the team, never stopped running, and could play multiple positions. We had a winger who played on his weak foot, would scare the daylights out of defenders and contribute goals. Our centre forward was underrated, yet scored plenty of goals and contributed in a multitude of ways to our attacking play. Our centre-back pairing was a combination of guile and muscle. And we had a manager who was intense and demanding, and never made excuses.
  15. Oh I know it's a long shot and a big IF, but this time last year I was looking at IF scenarios that could have seen us get a few points higher above the relegation scrap....
  16. Here I am, looking at the league table and fixtures and seeing we could go 2nd today if Fulham pull off an upset and Spuds-Citeh draw. What a difference a year (of Unai Emery) makes!
  17. Not one for the ages, but a decent enough performance. Legia were well up for it and did a decent job of putting us on the back foot first half. Tielemanns played a lovely ball through to Diaby for him to cut in and bury a shot from 20 yards for the first. They equalized when Kamara played a blind pass (towards Cash) straight into the path of a Legia player who took a touch and planted it in the far corner. Second half we were better and got the winner from a Moreno volley at the back post - another brilliant ball across from Dougie. After we got the second goal Legia resorted to kicking anything that moved and with the aid of an abysmal referee, got away with it. Bailey hit the underside of the bar late on. Legia never really threatened to do much in the second half (except kick us). As I said at the outset, it was not a classic, but we did enough. Bit like the Luton game really.... Nobody played badly, and nobody looked outstanding. An overall 7/10 collective performance that was enough to win the game.
  18. Yes, I noticed that too. Digne grinning and applauded Moreno off the pitch. Genuinely happy for his teammate.
  19. Mislead by their own club, maybe. But the concept of traveling to another country, then going to stadium without a ticket when it has been made clear what the TICKET allocation is (you need one of those to get in to an event believe it or not) is, at best foolish, at worst dangerous (as has now been proven once again by Legia fans - see Leicester, see AZ Alkmar). It was published a month ago what the ticket allocation was.... It's been somewhere close to 30 years since you could go to matches without tickets and just "pay at the turnstile." Trying to pin blame on police or UEFA or anyone other than the people themselves who showed up without tickets is ludicrous.
  20. Just listened to a clip from a phone-in from a UK-based Warsaw fan who is angry because he showed up at Villa Park without a ticket and was then "caged" into a car park with thousands of others. What is wrong with these people? This guy on the phone-in literally believed if they showed up in big numbers that authorities/Villa would cave and just allow them in. And he's angry because their "plan" didn't work.... I hope ALL of those who caused a disturbance, got drunk and disorderly, threw projectiles, assaulted police and any other offence, however minor, get to spend some time behind bars and have their passports confiscated. Is Winson Green prison still open? Kudos to the local police who 100% made the correct decision and put themselves in harms way to protect the Villa fans and local residents. The legitimate Legia fans with tickets who are angry have every right to be angry, but direct your anger to the morons who claim to be supporters of your club and the utter morons running your club who failed to cooperate and passively encouraged this situation. Don't blame Villa Don't blame UEFA Don't blame the Police
  21. Round Trip ticket for the tea lady. Woodward gets a one-way.
  22. Brilliant away performance. I watched it live and my thoughts haven't changed. The so-called domination of Spuds created very few real chances - yes they got in behind us and had shots, but the majority came about because the linesman isn't allowed to flag. Their goal was a shot straight at Emi, but took a nasty deflection. We had two very clear cut chances in that early period - the Cash "chest shot" and the Torres header that went wide. We could/should have had two goals inside the first 15 minutes. Spuds were the home team, they are expected to be on the front foot, so the fact that they had a lot of the ball and created some opportunities is to be expected. Cash was massively psychologically affected by his foul/yellow card/injury to Bentancur and he was completely out of it the rest of the half. Before that he'd been OK. I can see why Unai started him, as the Spuds left-back has got some ability. Credit to Bailey for coming in and doing his defensive work well. Emi did make one brilliant save from Hjoberg in the second half and played well overall, but crediting him with the reason we won is misplaced imho. He did what he's expected to do, and away from home you need your 'keeper to do that. The fact that we have a really good goalkeeper doesn't make Spuds unlucky. Diaby is going through a poor spell - his early form seems to have faded. Hoping he'll come back stronger. This win will give the lads some confidence that we can go away to the bigger teams and get a result - should help exorcize the Dippers/Saudi Arabia ghosts.
  23. Don't get me wrong, Bruce is not a favourite of mine, but I don't get all the ill feeling and insults. He was brought to our club when we were an absolute s**tshow both on and off the field. A broke, dishonest charlatan of an owner, a succession of "executives" who didn't have a clue what they were doing and a group of players (they weren't a team) that was led by an out of condition "captain" who had rebelled/downed-tools against a succession of managers. If we had continued on the trajectory that existed before his arrival we'd probably have finished up in League One and the investment by Wes and Nas would never have happened. He wasn't great and some of his decision making was bizarre to say the least, but he did at least stabilize things to the point of getting us to a play-off final and brought in a few players that served us well. SJM from Hibs was perhaps the deal of the lot.
