  1. I know they paid a decent amount for him but there's always movement between the Academies, we bought Barry from Brighton and nicked Hitzlespeger from Bayern for example. I think as long as they've spent a decent amount of time in your academy before they break through then it's fair enough to class them as through your system as your coaches/training will of had some impact. If you ignore Sterling then between Gerrard and Alexander-Arnold they produced very little.
  2. We've also produced plenty of Premier League/Championship level players through the academy like, Barry, Cahill, Gabby, Hitzlsperger, Vassell, Samuel, Davis, Clarke, Ridgewell, Bannan, Whittingham, Hogg... it's not like our academy doesn't produce players. Like you say it's lucky if you get 1 or 2 really good ones a decade. Look at Liverpool, Who broke through their academy between Gerrard and Sterling? Not many at all.
  3. The consensus was we had agreed a fee for Butland and Stoke then decided they wanted more, we didn't want to go any higher and so we've been looking at alternatives. If Stoke are now willing to drop back to the original fee then I would think we are still interested, but that's a big if. Benrahma, it seems we've been interested all window but I'd imagine his injury complicated matters, perhaps meaning we've looked elsewhere. A fee won't be easy to agree with Brentford, so we'll have to wait and see if anything comes of it.
  4. @jonjon This is also goes to show that Brentford don't just develop players, they buy them and then develop them which is exactly what we are doing with a number of our signings just at a higher level. Very few teams can rely on their academy alone to provide them with even half of competitive a team, let alone a full one.
  5. I'll be expecting a royalties cheque in the post
  6. Anyone who doesn't think he's signing is in-de-nile...
  7. Looking at both those teams, there's an argument we are stronger in a few positions now but then you get to Wesley and we just have no idea how that's going to work out, but then I suppose many people were saying Tammy wasn't good enough for the Premier League. It will be very interesting to see if we get another forward in, I like the business we've been doing but if we are putting most of our goal-scoring eggs in a Wesley shaped basket that does seem quite the risk...
  8. He was on loan at Carlisle, from what I saw of his highlights there he looks very promising, we should continue to invest in him and see what we happens!
  9. I always thought we'd spend around £100m, simply because we had so many players to buy, looks like we might go beyond that now as there's still more needed, be interesting to see what the final figure will be.
  10. I think that depends very much on how much is required and what is already in place, in our case we have little choice but to buy what would probably be too many for most cases, but we are a unique in this window. I'd say most settled teams tend to bring in 5 or 6 a few to improve the first team and a few to improve the squad, the big teams often only 2-3 if everyone is happy to add to what they have. Occasionally you get overhauls but the benefit rarely shows until a season or two later when everyone has bedded in. In many ways the work Dean and the boys do between now and the start of the season, integrating players, team bonding, work on the training pitch is vitally important and will have a big impact on our season. I'm glad we have so many bodies in place for it and the sooner we get the ones we still need over the line the better!
  11. Will see what I can do, might run out of room at this rate!
