  1. The biggest fake Villa ITK on Twitter isn't saying that at all... Villamole, is saying we haven't even started searching for a new manager at this time... If we did eventually decide to change, McPhee would be our caretaker until they line up Moyes or Rodgers...
  2. Why does anyone take this guy seriously? He's in Austin, Texas... Are we all so desperate for any sort of news that we'll believe any charlatan on Twitter now?
  3. The only bad call Purslow has made in the past 4 seasons has been to hire Gerrard and Hell, if we manage to pull off hiring Poch, Tuchel, or Emery as his replacement it wouldn't even be that big of a blemish on his track record... He's also made so many brilliant moves... Sacking Bruce & hiring Deano, Taking us from mid table in the Championship to mid table in the Premier League in 3 seasons Fleecing Man City for Grealish Securing Coutinho on loan at a fraction of his value then paying under the sticker price for him on a permanent deal Investing heavily in the academy and women's team Expanding/upgrading Villa Park and creating a downtown academy setup People calling for him to be sacked are ridiculous.
  4. Unfortunately, if he hasn't been sacked by this point, I don't see him going before the WC break, if at all this season. Unless Villa Park is calling for his head in unison, he'll continue to get more and more chances like this. The reaction after the final whistle yesterday was not enough.
  5. Sick of seeing the Arteta comparison... Completely different situations: Arsenal had a bloated, lopsided, over-the-hill squad of aging former superstars on astronomical wages and needed to rebuild completely in order to compete for Europe again... Arteta clearly had a strong tactical plan in place and even though they got battered in some games, you could see the statistical progression over time, with huge jumps in xG/xGA performance after every transfer window. They also spent an astronomical amount of money on new players and took huge losses to get dressing room problems out sooner rather than later. They're playing some of the best football in the league right now... Compare that to Villa... We had an underperforming young squad who needed better coaching and a few key signings to make us into European contenders. Gerrard spent big on older players, scrapped Smith's tactical philosophy for one which we're still struggling to implement a year later, and we continue to show regression in xG/xGA from when he switched to his narrow Rangers system in January. We play some of the most boring, negative football I've ever seen. Even McLeish wasn't this bad, and he once put out 7 defenders and Heskey in central midfield!
  6. Playing really well... No idea how we aren't ahead at this point. Kepa and his posts are having a blinder! Gerrard needs to build on this performance... If he keeps his job after today and goes back to the same dross we've been served up all season, we'll be relegation favorites.
  7. Mings will be a legend if that header ends up being the equivalent to Whelan's missed penalty.
  8. Getting the feeling that Gerrard's job is much safer at the moment than we are hoping for. I'm afraid it will probably require us to be in the relegation zone come the WC break for the board to let him go.
  9. More like Scott Parker...
  10. Should have been out last international break, regardless of the result before it.
  11. It's almost as if Gerrard is watching Liverpool and creating tactics for that team, then trying to shoehorn our squad into that system. Thinking that if he can get us playing well, it can be an easy transition back to Liverpool in the future. We aren't playing to anyone's strengths in this system besides our fullbacks and Martinez.
  12. Taylor when he was poached by England in 1990. Every single manager since then was sacked or quit.
  13. I never want to see us lose, but now this win has bought Gerrard at least another 8 games until the World Cup break. Just hope we aren't too far into the relegation battle that his replacement will struggle to get us out of quickly after the restart.
  14. Wake me up when this half is over... Most boring half of football I can recall. Good thing we're ahead...
  15. I think that's his challenge at Norwich. Wanted to do it last season, now he wants to win the Championship and do it next season. They have some elite Championship talent in that squad, but still need a huge upgrade DM in January in order to really run away with the league.
  16. Norwich have won 6 league games in a row and are flying right now. Josh Sargent, who couldn't score a goal to save his life last season, has 6 in 6 and Aaron Ramsey is growing into this team with an assist in their game against Bristol City. Happy to see that Deano has turned things around quickly for them in the Championship.
  17. One of the funniest comments I've ever seen on here... Truly bizarre... Let's look at Mourinho's career after leaving Chelsea Inter - Won back to back league titles and the Italian Treble (League, Cup, & Champions League). Arguably his greatest achievement Madrid - Won the league against one of the best Barcelona teams of all time and set the La Liga points record while doing it in addition to a Spanish Cup. Return to Chelsea - Won back to back league titles and a league cup Man United - Won the league cup, the Europa League, and got them to 2nd place with a terrible squad by Man United standards Spurs - Kane & Son had their best seasons ever and took Spurs to the League Cup final before he had a falling out with Levy who sacked him days before the League Cup final to spite him and tarnish his record Roma - He's been very open as to why he went to Roma. He wanted to take on a long term project with total control of the squad/transfers with a huge transfer kitty for the first time in his career, vs the "win now" mentality at every other job he's had. They're playing fantastic football right now and will be title contenders this season ahead of schedule.
  18. Great... Gerrard will be here through the WC break at least... Missed opportunity to get rid, upgrade the position, and start drilling the squad, now that we won't play another game until October.
  19. Need to postpone everything so the Brits can continue to live out their Dungeons and Dragons kings and queens fantasy.... All I'm saying is that America doesn't shut down when a President dies... We lower the flags half staff maybe watch the funeral, then go back to our lives as business as usual.
  20. Don't worry! We still have Rodgers and Rafa! Typical Villa...
  21. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11182793/amp/Leicester-boss-Brendan-Rodgers-paid-10million-sacked.html Looks like Leicester fans were right... Rodgers has a 10 million pound payoff clause in his contract if he gets sacked... Is his agent Ari Gold? How did they agree to this???
  22. ...and that project is much more appealing to someone with Poch's CV than Villa's.
  23. Mourinho went to Roma is because his reputation took a hit after his time at Man United and Spurs and the top jobs weren't available to him anymore. Same reason why Ancelotti went to Everton. His time at Bayern was a disaster where he lost the dressing room and the team went to the board to have him sacked, and he took over for Sari for a very lackluster period at Napoli and because of those jobs, limited his options. Poch hasn't fallen off that level yet... He was let go of one of the top 5-6 jobs in Football right now because of his Champions League performance. Plenty of options will open up for him in the next year or two. They will come available as long as he is patient.
  24. You're underestimating just how highly he is rated... The fact he's even being discussed here as a realistic possibility shows how out of touch many on Villa Talk are. Espanyol - Took over a team 3rd from the bottom of the La Liga table with no money and got them to finish comfortably mid-table with good performances against Barca & Madrid. Comfortably finished mid-table again the following season, before he was handcuffed by lack of funds and ultimately was sacked in his 3rd season when he hit a run of bad form. Southampton - He took a bottom half Premier League team to European Football and the highest top flight points total in their history. Poached by Spurs to be their next manager. Tottenham - He took a top half/Europa League contender team to the Champions League Final. He was sacked because he didn't win them a trophy in 4 years and Levy lined up Mourinho behind his back to take over the job from him. PSG - He won the league and French cup in his only full season at the club. He was sacked because Man City trounced them in the Champions League quarter finals. He has been successful everywhere as a manager and the Villa job is somewhere between where Southampton and Spurs were on his CV. Why would he step backward in his career to come to us? Just because he did a similar job before doesn't mean he wants to do it again when other opportunities will be available to him at clubs above our current level.
