  1. I see it as Lerner accepting we need a change and that Lambert has been working under constrains that he acknowledges. Either the club is for sale or Lerner will back him in the summer.
  2. Loving these kinds of posts at the moment. I wonder if you ever posted this when people had a go at McLeish? What's that got to do with anything? The fact is you'll make a sarcastic comment like that for Lambert but I bet when people criticised McLeish you had no problem with it. And he was doing better at this point than Lambert now is. Why do you compare everything to McLeish? I couldn't give a shit about how it compares to McLeish under totally different circumstances. The fact is when you win no one ever mentions tactics, but if you lose or draw then tactics get blamed. Lets be honest your average football fan hasn't got a clue about tactics. The tactics were still under scrutiny after the Southampton win by a lot of posters on here. Then when these complaints were made, others would shoot them down with the 'you're not even happy when we win' line. The tactics were spot on in that game though. In your opinion. For me personally, I don't mind when we do play counter attacking football but not to that level of negativity as it was against Southampton. Say the Arsenal game, that would be an example of Lambert getting counter attacking tactics spot on for me.

  4. I do agree that without a takeover, this is going to be our level but I also think a better manager can be the difference with us going down and staying up on our usual budget. We would have to make 4 signings there if you include Bertrand whom I'd be surprised now if he'd join, surely a better club would come in for him? It is also expected that Benteke will miss part of the season and with Kozak returning from his bad injury, I think it would be unfair to expect him to lead our line. Okore is another player we all have such high hopes for but he is unproven and coming back from a serious injury, next season he should be again, given some protection to adjust. Our current cover has proved to not be good enough. I'm not sure of Lowton's quality/attitude either. So for me, there is a lot more work to be done to improve us significantly and this can only happen with investment which I just can't see us getting without a takeover. I'd also like to see a number of our duds leave too.
  5. So another horrible end to the season and we absolutely deserve to be down there. Our injuries have been awful but we really have played some shocking stuff, especially against teams around us and the bottom line is it just isn't good enough. People can argue whom to blame (Lambert/Lerner) but without a change (preferably a cash injection) I really can't see how we will stay up next season. Again, we are more confident of other teams not picking up the points they need rather than us doing it ourselves. The whole idea that there are always 3 teams worse than us is pretty depressing, as we aren't better than many more than that. I think we will do it, just, with next pre season being critical for this clubs Premier League status.
  6. I did this last year and wasn't too far off so I've tried to predict the final points each team will get (I know that is pretty pointless when you see results like Sunderland) but it makes me cling on to some hope! 15th West Brom 37 points ( 3 points against West Ham, 1 against Stoke) 16th Aston Villa - 36 points (1 point against Hull) 17th Sunderland - 36 points (3 against Cardiff and West Brom, 1 against Swansea) 18th Fulham - 35 points (3 points against Hull, 1 point against Stoke and Palace). 19th Norwich - 34 points (1 point against Liverpool and Arsenal) 20th Cardiff - 30 points (No points).
  7. Ridiculous. How would Everton fans wanting Martinez out after one defeat be comparable, in any way, shape or form, to villa fans calling for Lambert's head? Your writing as if the Lambert out talk is completely reactionary and knee-jerk, it was going on for long before the Palace game and is completely warranted, imo, as we have completely failed to progress from last season and the football we play seems to have regress. & the `Lambert In` talk was going on long before the fans heralded his in coming by chanting for him at Norwich at the last game of the McLeish era & that was completely warranted. If the majority of the fans now want Lambo out then why don't they just admit that they got it wrong. Not me though. I still love the guy & just want to leave him be & let him get on with his master plan. Lambert In, in, in, in. Tomask NB* I have seen every Villa home game since 1968. Good job I wasn't bowing my head in shame for criticising Lambert as I would have missed this post. I wanted Lambert in, I though nothing could get worse than Mcleish and I thought it was a pretty good coup at the time. Even last season through some of the dismal results, I thought we turned into a decent side towards the end and showed improvement. I, along with many this season, thought we would push towards a comfortable mid-table position. How wrong I was and I apologise to all for this. The arguments for pro and against Lambert have been put forward countless times although I've yet to see any examples of the good Lambert has done but excuses/reasons to why he has done poorly. Maybe you could state why you love him to help me with this? I won't even argue and state the reasons why I'm close to hating him. Your point about the fans wanting him in so they can't want him out is what does get to me. Fans are as fickle as anything yet Lambert has actually been given an incredible amount of patience by them. I'm assuming (I wasn't on the forum at this time) most fans wanted Lerner in too so those now calling for his head (including Pro Lambert fans on here) would be wrong too. And if your wrong you can't change your mind of course even if those people don't deliver (I'd even argue Lerner has delivered far more that Lambert). Guess this club is stuck for the two of them for eternity. Be careful what you wish for. But I could be wrong. *Bows head in shame*
  8. The trouble with Gabby is that the team needs to be set up in a certain way to get the best out of him (counter attacking football) and he is just not good enough to adapt his game to play in any other way. When he is up top as a striker, he severally lacks the footballing brain for any creative runs off the ball. I normally prefer him out wide to stretch a team with his pace but again, he doesn't make the most of this, rarely running at his full back. Gabby just isn't good enough to justify his wage and has far more limitations than another player whom that money could go towards. He certainly has got an easy ride for being a local lad.
  9. I don't believe whatever realistically happens in our final games will change the opinion of fans and that Lambert's time is up with the majority of them. Truth is, no one knows what Lerner is thinking about the situation, if the club is up for sale or when it will be sold. I do think another season under Lambert's leadership (which I still think is likely) will send us down.
  10. We aren't in a relegation fight though. We are just on a very poor run of form. How many points clear do you think we'll finish?
  11. I'm still with Laudrup but admittedly, I don't follow much football outside of England.
  12. Sigh... Just watched the interview. He almost sounds like he is pleading at the end for the fans not to turn on him and the team. The team needs a kick up the arse, not all this protection from Lambert. Only angers the fans more at his lack of acknowledgements towards what really happened on the pitch. The team does need a kick up the arse - but not, perhaps in front of the media. Not defending him - but what is he supposed say that will make us all feel ok ? - I think the significance of press conferences and interviews is overstated Exactly. It amazes me how much Lambert gets slaughtered for what he says during interviews when there aren't exactly a lack of other more important things to criticise him about. Stoke was the only time I've seen him say it wasn't good enough. I don't expect him to tear the team apart but I would like some acknowledgements that he understands what the problems are and that they need to be addressed.

  14. Personally I'd be all for fans protests/banners against the Lambert or Lerner. After many a dismal home performance I've been to this season, most fans I've encountered seem to just accept this is what the team has become. They almost seem beaten down by the last 4 years and the whole place has no atmosphere or ambition. Lambert has never truly lost the fans at home which I think he has been very fortunate about.
  15. If Lambert did go, I can't imagine him going to another Premier League club any time soon.
  16. Voted for Bertrand MOTM as he showed a couple of instances of being a footballer. Lambert has to go. Quite a few players do too.
  17. If we can invest generously in the summer, that will be the only (and I mean only) good Lambert has done for this club. However, he does not deserve to be the man to do that. If Lerner does keep him, I hope there are protests for them both to go.
  18. We are a sinking ship and Lambert has no clue how to change that. He is devoid of any ideas and today just showed how his tactics are to 'hope we hold out'.
  19. Lambert doesn't deserve any backing. Has to go in the summer and give that chance to someone else.
  20. I interpreted that as will 'Villa let him train with them when he is back fit because of the bomb squad issues'.
  21. Apologies, where does Charles say he isn't injured? I don't have access to Instagram and that picture posted was a bit vague.
  22. Is there any news on his new contract? I'm assuming he is on around 50k a week so if his new contract isn't a decrease in wages I'd be pretty miffed that our tiny wage budget wasn't used elsewhere. Gabby is a passenger too many times, I can't quite decide whether he lacks the football brain to do better or if he is simply happy to not make a mistake.
  23. If Lambert does stay (which I think is a definite) then I'd like him to get rid of some of the dross he has bought. There has been lots of talk about our transfer policy, that if a player we buy is poor, we buy them so cheap that we can make a profit or certainly not lose any money. Bennett, Sylla, Bowery are musts that should be sold for me (the fact Sylla can't get on the pitch with only one natural central midfielder playing is scathing). They haven't worked out, show little to no signs of improvement so it is no time to be sentimental. Others I'd like to see go are Baker and Wiemann if we could cash in on any decent fee while he still has a slight representation. Tonev and Helenius deserve another season. Does anyone know anything about Gabby's contract situation? How much is he already on? 50k a-week? I'd be pretty annoyed if his contract extension matches this (I refuse to believe he'd actually get a raise). I'd much rather this be put towards a new player when wages are such an issue for us.
