  1. No it won't. Not if it's a proper buy out clause. You can't have a bidding war if there's a buy out clause. That's the whole point. As long as a club meets that fee then it's up to the player. Aston Villa won't have a say in the matter. If the buy out clause is £32.5 million then that's the most we'll get for him. thats not the case. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26414167 Liverpool owner admitted that Suarez's buy out clause was £40m - but they sold him for about £65-£70m in the end. EDIT: just noticed that Liverpool sold Suarez after he had signed a new contract with them - so no idea if such a clause was in his new contract.
  2. Im quite sure the club confirmed there was no release clause after he signed a new contract. Plus if there was.....we can always reject the offer anyway cant we? Liverpool rejected arsenals bid for Suarez didnt they? And that was a whopping £1 over the alleged clause.
  3. He has an air of a young Mourinho in my opinion. An arrogance that he can win every game. I find that refreshing after the Lambert, Mcleish eras. Klopp, Mourinho all had to start somewhere and if Tim REALLY makes his name as Aston Villa then we could be in for a great few years.....please dont take this optimism away from me... I haven't enjoyed watching the Villa as much as I am at the minute for about 5 years!
  4. Are we mathematically out of the title race?
  5. you crazy fool! Ahhhh. The A Team. ... good shout
  6. 7 pages in and no mention of "one foot in the grave"?! I dont believe it!
  7. other than the usual suspects, I absolutely despise Harry Kane.... no idea why but he makes my blood boil. I pray he is a one season wonder and gets found out next season.
  8. pointless I know, but its Friday afternoon and I am looking for any excuse not to actually do any work... http://www.thesportspredictor.com/#/predictor I have us finishing 15th on 34 points, with Leicester, Burnley and QPR being relegated.
  9. I read that in Delia Smith's voice. Made it even better
  10. If we score 2 or more then I can guarantee something will be erect......
  11. No, I really dont think Villa did any research other tha reading platitudes written by the mainstream media about Sherwood. Sherwood was supposed to be technical co-ordinator at Spurs. His role was to send players out on loan and ensure that the the youth teams played in accordance with the same philosophy (4-3-3-, passing football). He didn't do any coaching, so there's nothing to judge him by. Chris Ramsay was the U21s coach (and then the first team coach) and is now manager at QPR. Alex Inglethorpe was widely credited as having played the biggest role in the youth coaching set up and was snapped up by Liverpool as soon as he became available. What's his scouting record? Non-existent. None of the youth players currently making their way up to the first team were recruited by Sherwood. His major achievement was to tell the club that Suarez was overrated and not cut out for the premiership. Even the argument that he may have done well in this supervisory role doesnt really stand up to scrutiny, because his stint as interim manager proved that he had no attachment in the type of football that was being in the youth set up. First thing he did when he took over was switch to a 4-4-2 and instruct players to lump it up to Adebayor. The fact that he opted for a change of tactics and philosophy suggests that his role in development was pretty limited. http://www.theguardian.com/football/who-scored-blog/2015/feb/17/tim-sherwood-manager-aston-villa-turn-things-around Someone really likes Sandro. I take opinions of all spurs fans with a pinch of salt, as my spurs fan mate thinks they have been title contenders for the past decade. Also the whole Sandro being injured thing was to keep it out of the press that he wasnt cutting it in training. ....when his tweet was bought to Sherwoods attention he set the record straight and said he will be in the team when he shows he is worthy of a place. I have no issue with that. To me it seems that he tries to make the players feel it is a privilege to play for the club, you cant expect to put half a shift in in training and walk into the first 11.
  12. The passion's good to see, although it's acted passion at the moment; there's no way he can be genuinely emotionally invested in the club, at this early stage (I love that Dick Dastardly "Drat and double drat!" air punch at 0:10!). He knows the cameras are on him, knows that one of the things a lot of Villa fans found objectionable about Paul Lambert was his inability to show much emotion over the course of a whole match, he's out to show he's not the same, and you can't blame him for that. Genuine emotion will follow for sure, because Sherwood has an open, expressive character.Ever stopped to think that he's so emotional because it means he's got a cup quarter final, and possibly more, to look forward to as a result of this match? Exactly. He's got a chance to manage a team at Wembley and its made his first game in charge a bit easier than a loss would have. This exactly. He can go in tomorrow and there will be a buzz about a cup quarter final......instead of trying to lift the players after another loss. I also assume he headed straight to the changing room at the final whistle, looked like he couldnt get there quick enough.
  13. Sorry I misread, how come we're rumoured to play a 4-4-2 today? Where has that come from Im sure I saw an article somewhere where Marshall had said the players favour it.....if I can stop my 18 month old son from being sick I will find it. [emoji4]
  14. No idea. I was just referring to our last 11 v hull. Swap benteke with either gabby or andi. With gil and sinclair we have decent width.
  15. I hope we do go 4-4-2 as rumoured we have a starting 11 that is just right for that formation
  16. Tim Sherwoods claret and blue army..... go on say it out loud....just try it....its not too bad.
  17. I would be happy with Sherwood. No nonsense, honest when talking about his players. If they have had a mare then why bullshit about it.... I dont see a problem with that. On the other side if they have a great game he talks them up. They are fully grown men paid a fortune to have the honour of playing professional football. Take the rough with the smooth.
  18. great statement, gutted it didnt work for him here. results wise... he failed. in his remit to cut costs/wages and bring in players on a budget....he excelled, we may never really know how good a job he actually did behind the scenes as us fans only see the matchday side of being a manager. we were in a financial mess before he joined, we seem a lot more stable now and i would like to think Paul Lambert played a massive part in that.
  19. I would only be happy with McLaren if he speaks in his Dutch Schteeve accent. anything less and he can stick it.
  20. I agree. He can act like a tosser but he shows a bit of passion at least.
  21. So we have to sack Lambert, employ Sherwood, give him a bonus if we stay up and then get Laudrup in......do you not realise just how much that would cost?.......if only we'd spent that much in the last transfer window we may have been in a slightly better position now! I agree its not ideal, but it would still cost a lot less than if we were to get relegated, especially with the new TV deal, with the money premier league teams get from (I think) next season................. we simply cannot afford to get relegated. That would be great if you could guarantee it...but you cant and thats the reason that it wont happen IMO.....as much as I dislike Pulis, I think he was the one who could have got us out of the mire. Alas, its too late now! Yeah in an ideal world Lambert woud have gone a long time ago. we have got to the point now where we do need to make rash decisions, we cant guarantee that changing the manager will ensure survival, but something has to change.... Lambert is only taking us one way.

  23. I would look to get in Sherwood till the end of the season with a tidy bonus if he keeps us up. then start fresh in the Summer, ideally someone like Laudrup, but would he really come to us with the position we are in? at least with Sherwood if we do get relegated then "the damage was already done" and it doesnt harm any future jobs. if he keeps us up then it just raises his stock.
