  1. I really don't think Lambert has faith in our defence when Vlaar isn't playing. He then focuses too much on protecting them and we lose the one strong aspect of our team and that's our forwards. When we go out with that attacking mentality we're a side to be reckoned with, like against Liverpool. Got to go for it tonight or we will lose, it's no good waiting until we're 2-0 down before changing it.
  2. Massive over-reaction! The level of expectation of some posters beggars belief - I've watched us play in Div 3, so 10th place (and on the rise) in the toughest league in the world is not a "nothing club". I've seen plenty of players in claret and blue worse than KEA, Westwood, Lowton, Kozak etc etc (not sure about worse than Tonev so far mind) A slight improvement next season would see us top eight - if you expect us to win the league every year youre supporting the wrong team Trying the bigger fan than you crap doesn't work against me as I also watched us in Div3 and have followed Villa all over the world. There is a reason I support Aston Villa and not the ManU's of this world. I follow my local club through thick and thin but not C&B glasses. I tell you what VillaCas I'll have a bet with you that next season we don't finish in the top 8 if Lerner, Faulkner and Lambert are still in charge as I know that the players that will be brought in the summer will not be good enough to make this happen. 100 quid to VIllaTalk enough to make you interested? Some posters might think that with the inevitable sale of Benteke the money will be used to strengthen the squad but selling your best players to improve is at best a flawed plan and at it's worst will relegate this once great club. Under these 3 Villa have turned into a mid-table (at best club) like the Norwich's, Stokes etc of this world i.e nothing clubs. My blood runs C&B though and I will continue to support Aston Villa until the day I die. Until some billionaire comes along that is unfortunately the reality Football has changed massively over the last 30 years as no doubt you know. Gone are the days of a Derby County, Notts Forest or even ( although it hurts me to say it ) Aston Villa emerging with a great side to clinch the league title. Now the money does all the talking, as soon as you unearth a talent it will get snapped up by the Man City and Chelseas. A lot of the time to just sit on the sidelines, but they've derailed the competition. I don't see what more Lerner, Lambert and Faulkner can do in these circumstances?
  3. Paul McGrath was a fantastic player no doubt and in the same team we had a young striker, Dwight Yorke, another fantastic player IMO. Gotta have a mention for Allan Evans pyscho Evans la la la la la!
  4. Was a good keeper until the first howler against small heath Then he just lost all confidence and went to pieces
  5. Best: Jimmeh! Jimmeh! Jimmeh! Oh ozzie Bozzie! Oh ozzie Bozzie! Guzan! Guzan! Worse: David James - could be brilliant but always a liability Kiraly - i think he's just got down for that shot Les Sealy - just didn't like him
  6. I reckon they had an exciting AM player in mind but it's not materialised I'm sure (I hope) they see the lack of creativity in the middle of the park like we all do. Although the last two games have shown some hope that we're ready to start playing football again at last The transfer market is such a mine field though, especially in January when clubs and agents know buyers are desperate!
  7. Will always be Villa vs Tranmere in 94 The atmosphere was amazing, when Atkinson scored the Villa fans went mental In the Holte when it was standing and everyone was going wild. I ended up about 30 feet from where I'd been standing, just carried there by the surge. Fantastic!
  8. Just because other teams do it doesn't mean we have to as well It seems a new trend to boo your own team, even the England team get booed How does that look to rival supporters? I know how it looks to me!
  9. The popular media are clueless. I was there for QPR at home last season. We won that game because the fans refused to accept relegation and pushed and pushed and pushed the team to succeed. Boo boys my arse, we have had hopeless football at home now for years and I agree, the crowd tried to lift the team in the second half against Swansea but the ones who boo are all the media will report Only way to stop those reports is to cut out the booing Too many though think it is their right to boo, like it's gonna help the team! Of course it is their (our) right to boo. I'm sorry sir, but coming back time after time to watch crap like we saw against Sunderland, United, Palace and now Swansea - you can't expect people to be happy clappy. These are/were our winnable fixtures... While they are playing - of course they get my undoubted support. And if they lose a game but having played attractive football and with a modicum of effort, as a paying customer, I would be more likely to give them a cheer and pat on the back. At the moment, they deserve to get the boo from whoever, cos they just are not trying. It is debatable as to whether they are good enough or not - if they can score that goal against Swansea and play like the first fifteen minutes, then it proves there is a team in there. A team that can play. The crowd were with the team from when Fat Boy Slim started, right up to 45 minutes and half time. Then again, from 45 minutes to 90 minutes. The crowd just then simply let their collective feelings known. But the media have fook all else to report on the game and it's plain and simple lazy journalism to fill a couple of internet/colum inches. Remember - when we won the league back in 1981, the bigger news was that Liverpool didn't qualify for Eurpoe. Little old Aston Villa... Nobody else cares but us... Can't you see how counter productive booing is though I was as pissed off as all the Villa fans but I know booing only makes it worse It won't help them play any better and takes away the positive support we gave them during the match That's just my opinion UTV

  11. Backing or sacking, I like this! Don't see sacking as a good option personally. Who else is going to take us to the next level given the cap on resources? Gardner should start against Swansea, what do we have to lose? Even my 11 year old daughter keeps asking why we have gone from a side that tried to keep Possession to one that is now very good at giving it away, time and time again. She's even talking about supporting Arsenal now! Remember earlier in the season when they wanted to sack their manager?
  12. I'm a supporter of Lambert but that was awful I reckon if we lose on Saturday he will be gone Worried though as I'm not sure if there is anyone better out there to replace him
  13. Bang on about the booing It really does my head in. Like it's going to help the players! I may be wrong (as I'm getting on a bit now and have lost a few of my brain cells) but I don't recall fans booing our own team years ago? I actually don't have a problem with someone venting their spleen though. You've got to show your frustration somehow, but booing, well it's what you'd expect little kids to do UTV
  14. I was at that game also and we were absolutely s**t, so bad if you didn't laugh you'd have cried We just took the piss, I think quite a few Villa fans even celebrated their 5 or 6 goal :-)
  15. Somebody with a more expansive approach to the game of football perhaps. Like who? and would they want the job given the financial constraints they'll be working within
  16. Who is going to do better than Paul Lambert? In all honesty, with the lack of funds he has available he's doing the best he can. We're going from using experienced premier league players to mostly unknowns 18 months ago. I don't remember the previous experienced lot doing much better, be it they were costing the club a fortune! True we're playing badly but with the young inexperienced players at his disposal that is no surprise. He's scouting unknown players from abroad and lower divisions and using others coming through the youth system. Don't forget he's not that experienced himself. A lot of supporters last year were saying that this was a long term project and that hasn't changed in my eyes. We don't like it but unless a Billionaire is bored and decides to buy the club for a hobby that's not going to change any time soon. In Lambert I trust...still
  17. KEA summed up the team for me. Started brightly and seemed up for it but as soon as they got their 2 goals lost all confidence. Spent the rest of the match running around aimlessly.
  18. Don't want him Always over rated in my opinion
  19. Shocking today. Started well but fell away badly. They contained us easily and it could have been a lot worse. Still we've bought bargain bucket so are getting bargain bucket performances. No surprise really, I think Paul Lambert has done well to keep us in the premier league last season and we're 11th at the moment. Players like Weimann, Westwood and Benteke are not performing like they did last season. Thing is though although we struggled last season , we at least played some good football or tried to. This season we have pretty much been shite. Could be worse, we could have spent a fortune and been mullered 5-0 at home ;-)
  20. No excuse for booing at your own team Save it for the pantomime!
  21. Second best tonight to a Spurs B team with players who would walk into our first team. Defoe and Walker are England internationals, then there are big money signings like Paulinho & Chadli. Doesn't sound like a B team to me. No excuses for a below average team performance, but that wasn't a team that had played together before. Yes they had played in previous matches but not in the same team. It was an opportunity, (not by choice with the injuries we have had, granted) for the new players to play together. So it was no surprise we were all over the place. Still thought 4-0 flattered Spurs
  22. We were poor today. I didn't expect that level of performance A lot of players had an off day, too many. Ben Arfa showed what a class player he is. When he ran at our defence we were all over the place Sissoko bossed us most of the first half Got to work on playing through teams like we briefly showed towards the end of the first half. Worst performance I've seen in a while, hoofing the ball stinks of desperation. We're better than that

  24. I don't think spending huge amounts of money on players always guarantees success. Not straight away anyway, it takes time. Villa are building a solid foundation that can be built on, improving the players as time goes on. It will take a few years no doubt but the style of football is a pleasure to watch. All the players are comfortable on the ball, keeping possession, working hard and not giving the ball away cheaply. The Premier league with all its money isn't as stronge as the media like to tell us it is. The English teams didn't perform as well as expected in the Champions league, even after spending mega bucks like Man City.
