  1. Yes - thought they gave it a really good go...no idea why they didn't foul at the end though. Schoolboy error!
  2. As someone who is sick of the London-bias in this country, I am still excited about the Olympics. If the UK was ever to host the Olympics, it was only ever going to be London. So I don't see any point in complaining that London has got all the investment, etc. I'm a bit surprised with all the negativity...it's 2-3 weeks of constant sport...what's not to like!!?? Sure I think some of the events are dull, but it doesn't mean other people don't enjoy them. Also with the Mrs enjoying the Olympics, there'll be a lot less c**p on our TV over the next few weeks! As for the "legacy", I really don't care.
  3. I know it's only a pre season game against Burton, but KEA does look the business. Different class to everyone else in the first half.
  4. I loved chemistry at school...so got placed at the local chemist for a week counting pills! Looking back I suppose I should be grateful the school took any notice of my interests but my god it was a long week...

    Running

If anyone is interested, there is a new ParkRun starting at Arrow Valley Park, Redditch. First run is tomorrow at 0900. http://tinyurl.com/ct8943w
  6. 1 flat in Erdington and 2 houses in Redditch as a kid. Left home to go to uni at 18 and had a run of 8 different addresses in 10 years...none of which I'd call home. Finally settled down and only had 2 addresses in 9 years...both of which I'd call home.
  7. Go Chargers - reason being I spent some time working over there and loved the place. Went back last year for my honeymoon. Brilliant city.
  8. Had a bit of a disaster since Easter and can't see myself making up 27 points in the last gameweek. Well done to Adam Maddock...
  9. Yes - Gary Neville is fast turning into the best of the lot. He has only just recently retired so has played against most of the current players and he appears to answer questions honestly without resorting to cliches. The MOTD and Soccer Saturday lot just come across as ignorant and uninformed compared to Neville.
  10. It just shows how ignorant the "pundits" really are. No mention of his poor record or anti-football.
  11. I guess who, if anyone, we get in to replace him will determine whether we'll miss Carlos. I thought getting rid of Luke Young was a reasonable decision until I realised Hutton was his replacement! CC always came across as a decent guy though so I wish him all the best.
  12. He got out a few times briefly and the first time I shouted SIT DOWN MCLEISH and he promptly did so. Prompted a good laugh round us! Ha ha - I love it!
  13. Did McLeish get out of the dugout today? If not that's 2 games in a row he's been too afraid to do so and reason #27 he has to go. There's no way he can stay if he's worried about antagonising his own team's supporters every time he steps out of the dugout. What a pathetic state our club has got itself into.
  14. I just can't see any logic behind a decision to keep him. It doesn't make sense for on-field nor off-field reasons. We gain nothing financially by keeping him and almost any other half decent manager would get the team performing better. I'm trying really hard to convince myself that the board can see this logic and McLeish will go...but then remembered it's the same people who decided to hire him in the first place...
  15. So it seems one of the main reasons the FA went for Hodgson was because they believe he will embrace the National Football Centre in Burton more than Redknapp. Why on earth is this a consideration for the England job? Yes - the National Football Centre is important to help nuture future talent...but why is this the responsibility of the England manager? Surely there are two jobs there - giving them both to one person means neither will be done to their full potential?
  16. And you weren't on Tuesday??? Disgraceful. err...No I wasn't...but thanks for asking. :?
  17. If QPR lose tomorrow, I think we'll be safe. First time I can remember cheering for Chelsea.
  18. NFL for me too. Love the competitiveness of the league which makes every season and most games unpredictable...unless you follow the Browns of course
  19. I wish Maldonado would stop dropping out with a lap to go...very annoying!
  20. Where did you see the table? I can't find anything in this thread?
  21. It's called a Thought Experiment. Testing a principle someone holds by following it through to an extreme set of circumstances. In this experiment, we have those who are saying they would never snitch on their family for any reason. By taking it to the level of murder and child abuse, I was trying to test if this principle would still hold regardless of the seriousness of the crime. Quite simple really. Looking at the responses so far, it doesn't appear there'll be many answering the question though
  22. very well put Ender4. Um I'm sorry but no it doesn't become a slippery slope. Someone is either family or they're not. It's not a slope at all. Though I can see how it might be convenient to paint any opposition to your point of view in that manner - that they're somehow open to moral corruption and that they won't know where to stop with their reckless disregard of the law. I think there's a certain morality corruption when it comes to betraying your own family. That's much worse to me than the perceived morality of someone doing wrong by a system set up by a government. Sorry but the more we talk about this, the more it actually beggars belief that people (who don't hate their family) would rat out their family So there are no crimes your family could commit which would result on you reporting them to the police? None? Really? Not even murder? Serial killing? If the answer is still no - then fair enough no slippery slope for you - but I would then have to question your morality.
  23. my mums works for Lloyds earning £15k a year, and she was told last week that she being made redundant (along with most of her department). Same here - both my brother and mum worked for RBS. My brother was made redundant last month and my mum was supposed to lose her job last November. Fortunately they changed their minds about my mum and she's still there. She now tells me they're recruiting temporary staff to fill in for the people they made redundant...
  24. Very true although they're called "Targets" not quotas. If I didn't issue a specific number of fixed penalty notices or obtain a number of "detections" each month, questions were asked and future promotion would never happen. It just resulted in most energy spent on the easier detections...a school fight, shoplifting...anything where people were caught in the act. Anything else that meant trying to track done the criminal...well forget it...marked as "no further action". I'm sure I read the new chief of the Met has stated he now wants 20% of all stop and searchs to result in an arrest...just means whereas before an officer might just give a verbal warning for something trivial, they'd now have little option to arrest and alienate even more of the general public.
  25. Exactly - it's CL football and outrageous wages that attract the top players. Anyone think Van Der Vaart went to Spurs because of Harry Redknapp? Well its not outrageous wages with van der Vaart as spurs have a wage cap Fair enough - but he'll still be getting at least what we pay our top earners. My point is when Van Der Vaart was told of Spurs' interest, I doubt being managed by Redknapp was the major attraction. It was cash and CL football.
