Watching the game it seems more of practice game for Fulham; hope they keep it that way. We need to use Sidwell more; he is getting into good forward positions but the players not finding him. He will be the one to support Gabby in the box. All doing well against their immediate opponent.

Watched the game and as most on here I hate to see the Villa lose. Doesn't matter it's a youth side or the first team in an European Cup final; I am always gutted. Looking back over the two legs I think we performed fairly well. We were caught cold in the first 30 seconds and then held a very strong home team for 89 minutes. We didn't create much in the first game but wasn't the worst performance I have seen. The second leg, we outplayed them for most of the game and bar from poor technique from Premiership players we would have won the game. Young missed a penalty and Milner a relatively easy tap in from Young's rebound. It would be easy to pick on MON for the result but in the end it was down to the players. Delph is great going forward and strong in the tackle but let their guy run off his shoulder to set up there goal; he just stood still. He isn't ready yet for a full 90 minutes at this level. He has the ability for it but not yet the focus. Beye had a pretty good game but got caught out of position twice in the second half and one cost us the goal. I say that but Milner had tracked back behind him to cover but his positioning was off. Petrov wasn't his usally self tonight and lost possession too much. Heskey did his best but just wasn't good enough. It wasn't going to be his night and Gabby should have been on earlier. The tactics worked pretty well but towards the end our center mids went missing when it was time to cover the center halfs. They could and should have scored another towards the end. When we play 442 we need to make sure one center mid is covering the back four at all times. That didn't happen tonight and it cost us. Gutted as I said earlier but looking forward to Villa's next game. When one finishes I can't wait til the next no matter what the result is.

Headed home from work for a couple of hours to watch the game and was it work i. Boys worked so hard for one another and were mighty in defence. Been saying for a season now that NRC should be center midfield now matter how bad his passing. The drive he shows spreads to the team; now there is a leader for you. My bro who is a Pool supporting is going to get a call tomorrow; would wake him tonight that would be just mean. And there was he trying to tell me we should trade Young for Lucas; glad I turned him down. Get in there.

I am real looking forward to a great performance and high scoring win... Wake me up when it happens. I would watch the Villa last year and even before a ball was kicked i would think we would do okay. Now not as confident now but I still have faith in the players just not sure whats going on at training ground.

Certainly better than Saturday but still below what are players are capale of achieving. No sure what is happening with the Carew situation but makes us missing out on Owen an even bigger mistake.

I always look at to Fergie when people start calling for a managers head. He didn't do anything for three years but build a group of youngster "that you can't win anything with!" Then all of a sudden one cup triumph and the rest is history. What he is building is a future so let's so looking some much at today. Yes I don't agree with his tactics and I hope he smart enough to see where he is going wrong. If at Christmas we are struggling in the bottom half then my view might change. At the moment he needs to stay and see if he can bring that glory he certainly wants for the Villa.

I know MON is the manager but who does most of the tactical training? If it is MON then he really needs to stick to motivating players and get someone else in. Our players have not got a clue about playing the ball on the ground. To do that you need at least 3 players asking for the ball in an area where they can receive it. Towards the end of last season and certainly today we were lucky to have one player looking to receive a pass. We went back to looping the ball up to the front two who were out played. If Robbo does the tactical coaching then MON needs to not worry about his friendship and bring in someone new. MON, I'll work for free and get the players supporting one another in a way they should in less than a fortnight. Send me pm and I'll fly back home. I agree. Petrov can play in a 5 across but will struggle this season in a 4. Saying that he did well last year but I think making him captain will be the problem.

Friedel: 7 – Couldn’t do much about the first goal and a little unfortunate with the second. Only really player to come out with much credit on today’s performance. Beye: 5 – Started brightly but faded in the second half. Was rightly substituted but I feel will com good. Shorey: 3 – He was shown up today against players with speed. He is two slow but did make a few good recovery runs. Cueller: 5 – Does not know how to cover his defensive partner and cannot pass the all under and sort of pressure. He needs to learn to drop and cover when Davies steps forward. Davies: 4 – I believe he has been hanging around too many pubs in the off season. Petrov: 4 – I was disappointed when he was given the captaincy ahead of NRC and I think I was proved right today. He is not a captain of any sorts; not drive and was lost today. He must have been missing his buddy today. Delph: 4 – Too early for him today. He tried but was just not up to speed. He is going to come good though. Milner: 6 – He tried and tried but could not make it happen. He seemed more effective when he came inside. He was very frustrated at the end of the game. I am sure it was down to his own performance. Young: 5 – Showed a lot of attacking skills today but just wouldn’t pass the ball when it was needed. Gabby: 4 - Still doesn’t know how to move off the ball. He still has his speed!!! Heskey: 5 – He was one of the few who have given their all today just wasn’t good enough. He didn’t have much support but created our best chance in the second half. Subs: 5 – They did what they could. MON: 4 – Poor decision to play Delph in front NRC and not getting the left back position sorted. He looked out of ideas and very dejected at the end of the game. Fans who booed: 0 – That’s really going to help. What people have to realize is that Wigan is made up of players who a lot of Villa fans on here wouldn’t even sign. Bramble and Koumas have both been scoffed at but out played our players today. Villa need to sign players who can do a job and not have a fancy name. I have been a coach for many years and truly believe you have to play the formation to suit your players. MON doesn’t do that and plays what was good for Clough when he was a player. MON, you have to bring in NRC or equivalent in as captain or this could be a very long season. We need leadership and we had zero today. We need to switch to 451 until we have players who can play 442. He will need o upset players when they sit on the bench but if the players don’t wish to fight and do what’s best for Villa then move them on.

Just watched the first half and started brightly but as been poor from 20minut mark. Said before the game I was worried Delph was in for NRC and I believe it as shown. Petrov has been lost, nothing from him at all. The defense is very poor Davies and Shorey especially. Cueller's cover for Davies as been school boy level. We have forgot how to support the player on the ball again. Let's see what happens in the second half.
