  1. Think now's the time for a low risk appointment which Rodgers/Potter/Poch would be. Don't fancy any of the up and coming continental managers at this stage. Would be too much like Remi Garde replacing Tim Sherwood and that was a complete fiasco.
  2. Will be interesting to see if the club do any further business over the next few days. I suspect they'll not spend any more money as it's almost certain a new manager will be here in January and will need to be given funds. Maybe a CB on loan at most.
  3. If anything I reckon he's more toxic than positive at this stage. It's clear the players are stifled by what he's asking (or not asking them) to do. Might be a lift with him gone.
  4. Think things are aligning for Rodgers - I'm probably happy with that. He'll get a tune out of Coutinho and probably a good few others.
  5. Been watching managers fail at Villa for 30 years now - it's clear how this ends for Gerrard at this stage. He seems further down the road to being sacked now than Smith was when he was sacked. Maybe that's just my bias??
  6. They're supposed to be after Neal Maupay also. Would be class if we went for Joao Pedro.
  7. Beale was there for quite a bit of rubbish toward the end of the season though.
  8. Maybe we should move him upstairs? He could be Lange’s closer.
  9. Don’t think their predicament is any worse than ours to be honest.
  10. He was considered a big deal (literally and figuratively) a few seasons back. Deffo worth a look.
  11. If he’s on a free he’ll require insane wages (like Kamara is likely on). That’ll massively alter the long term strategy the club have in place. I think a loan is more likely with insurance money from Carlos covering the extra wages. Means they can go ahead and strengthen midfield and/or striker as they had already planned.
  12. Just wondering which other new villa signings this has happened to? I can think of Wes, Okore, Nilis, Kozak. Feels like there’s more though. It must be well above average for a club’s new signings though.
  13. Think if Gerrard goes the chances are the season will be write-off regardless. Unless we get a Gregory type new manager bounce which are few and far between these days.
  14. They’re trying to sign Marko Arnautovic for £10m - he’s 33. If we’re trying to pull the wool over their eyes now’s the time to do it. On that valuation we should be getting Grealish money for McGinn.
  15. He’ll probably get rid of Lange along with Gerrard as a bit of a scapegoat.
  16. Rodgers becoming more of a no brainer. Low risk appointment who’ll likely jump to the opportunity to come here. He’ll get us comfortably in the 6-10 bracket over next couple of seasons. Poch is never coming here. He’s got himself to elite level manager status and if he came to Villa and got it wrong he’d lose that. He’ll never risk it.
  17. Arrigo Sacchi put it best when he described Gerrard as a great footballer but not a great football player. More or less saying he had all the physical and technical ability but lacked the brain to go with it. His physical and technical talents are no use to him as a manager.
  18. If performances don’t pick up I suspect he will not have an ally in Johan Lange. Gerrard has fallen out with £60m worth of signings that he sanctioned. If it comes to deciding whether to stick with SG or bring someone else in who can bring Mings/Sanson/Traore back into the fold and protect their value I know what Lange will be thinking.
  19. I disagree with this. Communication is a massive part of being a manager - the best managers have always commanded respect by how well they communicate with the squad and also the media. If the players hear the manager come across as muddled or inconsistent, or in SG’s case full of meaningless macho soundbites, it undermines their authority massively.
  20. Agreed but we're not going to get a solid 8/10 player to sit on the bench until Kamara gets injured. We don't even know if Kamara will be that good of a player at this stage. Players getting 8/10 week in week out are playing CL football.
  21. Nakamba under Gerrard was excellent until his injury. If we let him go and Kamara gets injured Luiz will end up back in that role again. He wasn’t expensive and wouldn’t be on big wages so I reckon it makes sense to keep him. Even if we keep him until the end of his contract and then release him on a free he’ll have cost us about £2.5m+wages per season which is good value for a PL squad player.
  22. Yeah if Coutinho is offering very little and is still first name on the teamsheet every match whilst Bailey and Buendia sit on the bench Gerrard will lose support very quickly.
  23. Guardian has predicted us to finish 10th - it's the average of all their writers' predictions. I reckon we'll not be too far away from that.
