  1. Mings was shocking there but not as bad as Olsen. That ball came from miles out so the keeper had all the time in the world to see it coming and go out to punch it clear. Disgraceful performance from him tonight.
  2. We need better defenders. At least one new left-sided centre back in the summer to either start or challenge Mings.
  3. We have to buy new back-up goalkeeper and left back ASAP. These pair fill me with dread. Mings has been ropey since coming in too. What a different game this would've been if we played our best 11 from the start.
  4. They should've had at least one yellow card already - that challenge on McGinn was too late to avoid a card and Fernando's kicking the ball away in his usual strop. The game lacks quality and you can tell there's been many changes. The good news for us is we have real quality in the final third that can change this for us if we can keep them out from scoring.
  5. Would absolutely pick him for England when you consider the other options. Ty did great yesterday to keep his cool in that hissy-fit moment from Ronaldo. I'd imagine he would have spannered him though him we had already lost the game.
  6. Ramsey further up the pitch. Front four pressed high. Bailey more central, where he was more effective. Team defended together. Made changes at vital times. Triple change that actually made absolute sense. Gave game time to Sanson. That, for me, was a 10/10 managerial performance.
  7. This ref is a top class, higher than the highest, see you next tuesday. Ronaldo should've been off. Martinez for them should've been off. Then he gets in the way of our breakaway. What a fooking piece of shite.
  8. I'm prepared to give SJM more time. Yes, he's not playing well and hasn't done so for a while but, he's been played out of position for quite some time and it has obviously affected his game. Hopefully, Emery will play him in a more suitable role and we get our old SJM back.
  9. No no no no NO. Coutinho has to be the lesson learned on signing previous great Premier League players who've done nothing ever since they left
  10. If we could get Pau Torres to somehow join up with Emery I'd love seeing a centre back partnership of Carlos and Torres. Sorry Ty but, needs must if we're to move forward.
  11. We need to remember that 4-0 absolutely flatters us. We were lucky to come off that pitch not having conceded 7 or 8.
  12. I'll tell you what's wrong with this group of players - there are too many players that have played at Championship level. Cash from Forest, Konsa from Brentford, Buendia from Norwich, Watkins from Brentford. Mings wasn't getting PL games for a struggling Bournemouth. McGinn came from Hibs, Luiz was playing for Girona in Spain, Ings was at Southampton (lower PL level), Denoncker and Champers came from a better level but were surplus to requirements, Young is 37! The only top level players we have in our squad are Martinez, Digne, Kamara, Carlos and Coutinho (and even he looks way past it). The board needs to throw a lot of money at Emery if they want him to have any chance of success with our club.
  13. I think the Premier League itself was a major attraction for Emery to join us. Xavi was quoted as saying that La Liga is still as big as the Premier League. It was almost like he was trying to convince himself as well as others. Maybe Emery realised that he wants to challenge himself in what he believes is the toughest league in world football and we were the club to approach him and give him that challenge. I know he turned down Newcastle but he was on a mission with Villarreal at that time, so had a very good reason to turn it down. I think that we have a manager who feels that he wants to win things here, in the toughest league. That bodes very well for us. Our owners will back him if it means success for their (and ours) club.
  14. I've been saying exactly the same! We won't have too many players away at the World Cup so Emery and the board can really start to file away the cobwebs and get the club back on track. A smooth end to the season.
  15. What I love about this appointment is, even if it fails, from day one, they showed a truly big intention. It never felt like that with the Gerrard appointment.
  16. We couldn't ask for more than our owners. This is a massive statement from them of their intentions. You don't get someone like Unai Emery in to manage you unless you have really serious ambition. I think they realised that to go big you need to be managed big.
  17. Swapped Villareal for the real Villa. Who can blame him? Now, that's what you call a statement appointment. Welcome to the REAL Villa, Unai. May you and our wonderful club enjoy much success together
  18. I think that there's some kind of irony that Liz Truss and Steven Gerrard lost their jobs on the same day. They were both short-lived expensive failures and their mistakes could prove costly and lead to economic castrophe for years to come.
  19. All we can hope for now is for Gerrard to get another job and take Coutinho off our hands in January.
  20. I never want to see Gary Macallister back at our club.
  21. Do you mean Herr Flick? No thanks. We've had enough of the Gestapo-type management under Stevie G, thanks!
  22. I'm not a fan of Bielsa so I'm hoping it isn't him. My personal choice would be Pochettino. He did a great job at Southampton and he'd probably be a decent fit for us. However, I think we missed a trick to get some feelgood factor back by failing to sack Gerrard earlier and bring in Potter, another Villa fan.
  23. If you're highlighting our lack of width you are going to be in for some further disappointment because we now have only one winger because of our manager's greatness.
