Incredible, incredible player. Mings is a good defender, but pales in comparison to this guy.

I agree, I think it’s telling that he didn’t come on even when Watkins puts in a performance like that. I really don’t know if it’s something to do with Smith believing there’s a chance Watkins might score no matter how bad he’s playing, or whether he just doesn’t rate Davis full stop. Seems Davis for Watkins is a sub we just would not see unless there is an injury.

Dave, he was god awful tonight. That had nothing to do with anyone around him. His passing was off, his control was off. He was a big part of why we were so awful tonight. You’re right when you say he’s been putting shifts in all season, and quite frankly he’s earned having a bad night. But I don’t agree that he was bad because of the players around him TONIGHT. He just had a very very bad day at the office.

He was more below average than the below average players that surrounded him tonight. He’s been absolutely superb all season, even when not scoring. But blaming the players around him for his performance tonight isn’t right.

You are absolutely right here, my heart sank when he pulled up and hobbled off. However, the games that followed showed us that we played even better without him. So quite honestly, I was more disappointed when I saw AEG dropped to make way for his return than I was when I saw Ross Barkley hobble off. About a month ago I posted a set of match statistics for us with and without RB, and included pre-and post injury which showed that we were playing much better without him even before his injury.

Whilst that truly was a great goal, let’s not exaggerate him running half the length of pitch. He picked the ball up about 35 yards out, took two touches and smashed it in from 25 yards out.
