    Tyrone Mings

Whilst I agree with the general sentiment in your post about nothing worthy of having a dig at Tyrone over this (although @sidcow clearly wasn’t) I’m not quite sure what you mean by the bit in bold. The way that reads is that Tyrone spouted a bunch of nonsense, but is intelligent enough to know exactly what he was saying? That it was a calculated, and thought out statement about comparing Tottenham’s facilities with (I assume) ours? I actually think that it was not that at all. I think it was a throwaway comment, not intended as any kind of insult, but absolutely not thought out at all. There wasn’t really a need to say it, and has caused a little bit of an unnecessary (but unwarranted) stir - so no, he had no idea why he was saying it. He just said it because he thought it. But 100%, ordinarily he is an excellent speaker, and is usually very calculated and thoughtful in his interviews, and there is nothing here to have a go at him for.
  2. I am also in the camp of this not being a disaster signing. Didn’t cost a lot. Didn’t work out. Didn’t get us much back. And as far as I’m aware wasn’t a total clearing in the woods. No biggy. We move on.
  3. Tuanzebe is far too injury prone
  4. Sterling isn’t even the problem. Quite honestly, it’s the shit tactics. 2 holding midfielders?! Phillips should’ve come off for Jack.
  5. Kane looked awful. Needed to be off 20 minutes before was. Slow and lethargic
  6. What? Why? He had 30 minutes and failed miserably. That’s his 30 minutes done
  7. Honestly it’s not even the wingers that’s the big problem here. This guy just packs 6 players defensively and hopes the ‘pace’ will unlock one goal. Has no intention of controlling a game. Dont care who he bring on, but get one of those midfielders off for a more attacking option. But wtf do I know? If you say anything on here you get criticised for Southgate bashing. No Doubt we’ll get a shot in target, and manage to squeeze in a goal, win 1-0 and all these chaps will be out in force saying Southgate was spot on.
  8. Grealish aside why the **** do we need two holding midfielders against **** scotland?
  9. Maybe, just maybe, he wants to go to kick-start his career again? its not all about who we want to keep, sometimes people don’t want to stay.
  10. Lol, I think you’re just worried about me starting another rant aren’t you?
  11. Sky sports reporting Mings and Stones will start. No mention of the wingers situation
  12. Have to admit, very surprised by this on a few different levels. However, 12 months stop gap. Maybe we’ve identified someone that we want, but isn’t realistically available until next season? Excellent delivery, so set pieces should improve. Covers a lot of different positions. Provides a different set of attributes to AEG. Much more likely to be better involved with intricate gameplay, a lot less direct. I suppose on the face of it, it’s a ‘no-brainier’. A little disappointing not because it’s him, more that this clearly means that he is ‘the’ winger for this summer. But if that’s to let us get target A or B next year rather than target C or D this year, then it makes perfect sense. Even at 36 he’s clearly good enough for inter minutes. And let’s face it, they’re better than us. Welcome home Ashley.
  13. Ok, let’s start off by agreeing that in the grand scheme of things it really doesn’t matter if Jack knew what it meant or not. Quite frankly it matters more how good he is at what he does. Now with that out the way, with all due respect, you’re both wrong in my opinion. Why didn’t she say ‘knowledgeable’? Then why use knowledgeable? Why not say ‘you’re supposed to know a lot about football’ Why should the interviewer restrict what words she used to basic English? And I disagree when you say ‘you have it in context’ The context is simple. He didn’t know what she meant by being an encyclopaedia about football. There’s no debate on that at all. Whether he doesn’t know what encyclopaedia means, or what is meant by encyclopaedia on football means is a moot point. I'm in my mid 40s, so maybe I’m out of touch about what would be common knowledge, but I’m sorry, to blame the interviewer here about using that phrase is beyond clutching at straws. By all means, ‘who gives an actual **** that he didn’t know?’ Is a perfectly reasonable response, and yeah I’d agree with that 100%. No one cares that he didn’t know. And I’m sure that he doesn’t care either. But to say that interviewers need to not use ‘big words’ or ‘complicated phrases’ around footballers is quite frankly derogatory towards footballers. You want interviewers to limit the words they use to no more than 5 letters? 6? 7? At the end of the day if I could choose if my son plays football like Jack but doesn’t know what it means to be the encyclopaedia of something, or the opposite… I know what I’d choose. But for the love of god, let’s not blame the interviewer here.
  14. You’re right. and to be honest it’s not going to affect his life in any way whatsoever apart from Twitter banter.
  15. Well I’m guessing he knows what football means… edit: I get what you mean, but still.
  16. I just asked my 9 yr old what an encyclopaedia was. she knew. I then told her off for not being asleep.
  17. I’d love to believe this, But the kind of transfer targets we’ve gone for does have a hint of this being a possibility. I’m still very optimistic that he’ll stay.
  18. Or he means get rid of Southgate for Jose or Pep, and De Bruyne can switch countries like he did
  19. Lol. no. I’d upload the video here if I could but it’s too large. but basically interviewer: ‘it’s been said you’re an encyclopaedia of football’ jack: ‘a what?’ interviewer thinking he hadn’t heard: ‘encyclopaedia’ Jack: ‘I don’t know what that means’
