    Racism

There seems to be a bit of an issue with using the term racism if there was no offence intended. I would say what Griezmann did was an example of ignorance rather than hatred. It seems like he’s leant a bit in the last few days about the history behind white people putting on black face paint and is no longer so ignorant about the issue.

    Racism

Just because you have only heard the term this week doesn’t mean everyone else did as well. There have been plenty of high profile examples I can think of from Australia. Do a google search for ‘Serena Williams Blackface’ or ‘Red Faces Blackface’ for more example from a few years back.

    Racism

There is a history and context to a white person putting black face paint on. If you are not aware of it you (probably understandably) would not know what the fuss was about but if you dig into the background you quickly realise it’s one of those ‘no longer done’ things.
  4. Still more logical than a Diskworld novel.
  5. Some sanity in a seemingly endless tide of madness.
  6. If brexit types are happy while the UK stays in the EU in all but name then I think the UK will have gotten out of this lightly.
  7. The can has been kicked down the road. Ideally it will keep getting kicked down the road until everyone moves on and the UK settles on a Norway style arrangement.
  8. He’s doing his Mr Ed impersonation.
  9. It is just remarkable how people like Davis or Trump get themselves to such positions of power.
  10. The trouble is the only evidence is 'he said she said' and he has not been convicted of it. Whilst it seems likely that the guy is a sleaze bag he has plausible denial and the Trumpsters can hang their hat on that.
  11. It is a bit amusing that this latest falling out seems to have focused minds on the Northern Ireland problem when everyone could have just read this thread to get a heads up on the issue months ago
  12. Kushner looks like he has a bit of a problem.
  13. The bill also allows drilling for oil in the arctic circles environment protection zone and drops the required for people to have health insurance, thus cutting the legs off of the ACA. Quite a bill.
  14. I presume most of you are asleep but he's just posted this in response to May's comments. It took him a couple of goes to get the right twitter handle as well.
  15. Brazil and Italy don’t have an extradition treaty so as long as Robinho doesn’t feel like a European holiday any time soon he won’t be seeing any prison showers.
  16. I'm with HanoiVillian here. Unless you yourself are caught up in (what you think is) a terrorist attack and act like a hero taking the piss out of someone who has been is a low blow, celebrity or not.
  17. The Irish government needs to work on being the preferred English speaking finance hub for the EU. Dublin could do quite well out of it and help soften the blow a bit.

    Paris

Opera and east Paris is my favourite part. There is a great food market near there called Aligre market and a great wine bar next door called the Red Baron (with good wines for a few euros a glass) as well as good coffee shops etc. The last time I went to Paris I was visiting friend and just hung out over the east side the whole time.
  19. I would say though that in a voluntary voting system you don't necessarily need to only target swing voters, preaching to the converted in their echo chamber is also very useful. It is often these energised voters who actually get out and vote and encourage their friends/neighbours also. Not saying I have any stats on these things but I can understand why the Russians thought it would be useful to get the more rabid members of the electorate riled up before an important vote.
  20. I went to the game last night Jedinak has been immense over both legs. Great to have him back!
  21. We need him for the 2nd leg against Honduras! Was immense in the first leg.
  22. This thread feels like Groundhog Day at times. This outcome has always been the only possible one from the day Article 50 was triggered. If the deal the Government reaches with the EU is unpalatable there was never any time to renegotiate a better one. Really the UK government should have done some planning for what deal it was aiming for and getting cross party consensus on it before triggering A50 but here we are.
