FSW makes sense - as he is very similar to GH - and Randy must be thinking he could pick up GH'S work pretty quickly. More importantly he is the only one who has shown any enthusiam for the job(Easy option). Not much better than Houllier (if any) IMO

An often overlooked point :- 4th isn't the champions league. its the champions league qualifers - so we could be in and out by september !

He has looked a pale shadow of the player last season. However he is still much more likley to grab a goal than Heskey. The big problem is, who do we get into as our main striker - this seems to have eluded MON in all his time here. We certainly need better than Harewood, Heskey, Maloney.

Gerrard score those spectular free kicks - which only Gerrard can score - no one else could hit the ball so hard - but keep it low. However the frequency with gerrard does this has always been overstated. There are also plenty of games where Gerrard is ineffective - this is what stops him from being really top class - he can be nullified. Milner is more consistent - but not as spectlar - He also doesn't moan as much as gerrard.

Potentially I think Davies is the best centre half we have. However I think MON has gone for the more physical type of defender - in Dunn, Collins and to a lesser extent cuellar. - this means Davies probably is 4th choice.

Intersting Poll - I have heard from a couple of sources that MON is asking himself this very question. Even more that he does beleive he has taken villa as far as possible, and will announce his intention to leave villa early in the new year. Remember where you heard it first.

Didn't someone do some stats on his performances last season- which came up as zero assists ! The england thing is a red herring, he was subbed in the last match and his replacement Defoe (the striker we should have brought) scored 2 goals

How can he be ok for back up to Carew - when his goal scoring ratio is 1in9 , whilst carews in close to 1 in 2 ? A disastrous signing, which IMO started the demise of MON.
