I would go as far as saying that if there was one manager on the planet who seems to represent all the things that Randy doesnt want in a manager, its Neil Lennon. Overly agressive. Zero Premier League managerial experience. Overly agressive. Controversial. Suspect transfer market dealings. Ginger. The list could go on, but I think my last point sums it up nicely.

I'll have some of what youve been drinking mate, McClaren is awful and his appointment would show a complete lack of ambition from the board and we would become a laughing stock, he could easily relegate us next season. Nothing like a mass overreaction to start the day. McClaren would develop our youth setup, whilst having an eye for talent abroad. Is he perfect? No. Is he even in my top five choices? The possible appointment of a new manager, even if it were a Guardiola / Mourinho / Ferguson type genius would not get our team in the Champions League in two years. Its ludicrous to expect that. Hughes attracted Robinho to Citeh. At least do a little bit of research before spouting your incessent bile.

He chose Fulham before MON pissed off IIRC. Then merely a week later MON pissed off. Oh I'd say Hughes lold, not. Cheers BOF. The possible / likely appointment of Hughes leaves me with a sense of "meh", and im not really sure why. I was so massively put off going to VP in the latter days of MON due to the insipid, predictable and utterly boring tripe served bi-weekly, that im wary of anything almost slightly similar to his reign. Hughes has done "ok", everywhere he's been, but never really excelled in my opinion. This of course could be due to him not being given the time to succeed ala Citeh, the finances ala Fulham, or the ability to attract players ala Blackburn, but I just find him an underwhelming and easy appointment to make. All my eggs are in the Moyes basket. I think he'd be a phenomenal appointment, one who could not only see us climb the table, but also sort out the bad apples in the dressing room, which is in my opinion our biggest issue to deal with, even more important than replacing players. In the end i trust Randy to make the right decision, like I think he did with Houllier, its not his fault health and idiotic incidents derailed what we couldve achieved under Gerard. I suppose to surmise, any one but Benitez, i'll never accept him after the Barry fiasco. Up the Villa!

where has GK said this will probably be the end of GH?? I didn't say he did say that, but in his own thread, he states that Houllier won't be there for any more matches this season, that the illness is linked to the very serious one he suffered when at Liverpool and something along the lines of health being more important than all else.

If this is, as General Krulak's comments seem to suggest, is the end of Houllier's tumultuous reign as head honcho at VP, then it does give Randy the one precious commodity he didn't have when MON decided to flee: Time. As it seems we are almost guaranteed Premier League football next year, Randy can focus from right now on getting the right appointment for the close season, ensuring the new manager has an entire Pre Season to get his ideas, tactics, style of play and new signings to work effectively. No excuses, no scrimping and saving, an opportunity to really do his homework and thoroughly search for the best man for Villa. (I'm not suggesting excuses have been made before, just that there needn't be any this time either). If rumours are true that David Moyes is a preferred option I think that would be fantastic, but Houllier should take a great deal of credit from the way he has trimmed the squad, severely slashed the wage bill and blooded the youngsters. Whether some of that is due to his hand being forced I believe is beside the point, GH has left a very nice canvas for a new manager to work from.
