I couldn't name any bands The Cure inspired but I'd bet my life they're out there, not just in England too. Pornography was a tremendous album yeah but the line up then was pretty weak, I still think they hit their very best from around 1987 - 1992. Personally I think their best 2 albums are Wish and Disintegration...funnily enough I think I preferred Bloodflowers to Pornography and Bloodflowers was around 2000 I think. Knocking them just for Lovecats is daft though, that was more jazz than anything else...it's bad yeah but they released worse singles than that in their time.

Gallagher is a competent guitarist just like Marr was...Marr wrote better riffs is the only difference. Neither are great guitarists though which was my point - the Cure have Smith and Thompson, both of whom are great guitarists, also Gallup who is one of the best bassists I've ever heard and when they were at their very best they had Boris Williams on drums who was also great. The Smiths had a very weak bassist and drummer which isn't good for a 4 piece band. I never found their lyrics depressing at all, mostly just amusing tongue in cheek stuff. Anyone that said The Smiths were depressing was obviously just too thick to 'get it'.....but that doesn't stop Morrissey being an absolute word removed.

I enjoyed one particularly loud one I dropped at the Open a few years back that caused Vijay Singh to step back from his putt amidst a ton of sniggering from the galleries - I used that trick that Chevy Chase did in 'Spies Like Us' and turned and gave the bloke next to me a thoroughly disgusted look, and everyone else copied me Another all time great was the one I dropped on the dance floor of the Blue Angel in Seel St, Liverpool years ago. It was a studenty type place but I loved it there, tiny crowded dance floor whcih was great for cheap gropes. Anyway I'd had a bad sweet and sour the night before and one pump cleared the entire floor it was great. The scouse bird dancing next to me and my mate turned green and had her hand to her mouth trying to prevent herself from spewing, yes it was that bad. I didn't even attempt to blame anyone else for that one, I wanted all the credit.

Yep, I was happy at the end of the season and thought that this transfer window couldn't possibly be as crap as last seasons. Oh dear, a 37 year old keeper, Sidwell and Davies so far and the rest of the summer has been taken up with the Barry fiasco. Up until today I thought we'd handled that situation perfectly but we look bloody stupid now. Yes last season 6th was a great achievement, how good could we have done with a manager in place that had all the angles covered, squad-wise? It also rarely gets mentioned that it was the first season Laursen has played more than a handful of games since he arrived. Lucky that, and who'd have predicted it at the start of last season? The point I'm making is if he had been injured most of the season again we'd have been pretty much ****, defensively.

I have actually pointed this out on another site a while back and got crucified for being a 'hater' - the way Woods swings a golf club is not going to allow him longevity in the sport, no way. He's going to have to make adjustments as age kicks in, as Nicklaus did. Nicklaus was good enough to do it, is Tiger? Time will tell.

Nicklaus also had Player, Trevino and later on Ballesteros to compete with in his career. Woods nearest 'challenge' is Ernie Els with a piffling 3 major titles to his credit. Nicklaus had Player (9 majors) Palmer (7 majors) Watson (8 majors) Trevino (6 majors) Ballesteros (5 majors) to deal with, along with several others who had 3 or more. There may be a lot of good golfers around today to challenge Woods, but no 'great' ones. It's not just about hitting balls all day, the players back then used to practise just as hard - it's about mental toughness and this lot at the moment are a bunch of chokers, with the exception of Woods himself. Might be what you said about even the average players on your making fortunes out of the game...just no hunger there any more. Mediate proved the point I've just made in that playoff - he had that title won and choked. I'd agreee with that. Though a big thing for me about Woods is that he hasn't come from behind after 54 holes to win a major. I'd venture that there is one thing that Nicklaus did which Woods won't - and that is win a major at the age of 46. Woods also never seems to get opponents making charges at him on the final day either, Nicklaus shot 65-66 back in 1977 in the last 2 days of the open and sitll lost :shock:

Yes, the first thing that springs to mind when you look at Westwood and Mediate is "wow, professional and athletic" Nicklaus had better competition, no one in their right mind could argue otherwise. Woods will go past 18 majors at some point probably but comparisons between the 2 are unfair.

Absolutely 100% spot on. She did one or two things I didn't agree with but the results she got from her policies speak for themselves. When was the last time the Villa was involved in any sort of penalty shoot-out? FA cup semi at Wembley vs Bolton in 2000? I can only think of a few in the last 15 years or so. Bolton FA cup 2000 (won) Internazionale UEFA cup 1994 (won) Tranmere Rovers League cup 1994 (won) Wimbledon FA cup 1993 (lost) Are there any more? We lost to West Ham in 1999 (southgate missing again) but this was scratched because of the ineligible Emmanuel Omoyinmi I thought it was Alan Wright that missed the important penalty in that one?
