  1. I don't think that your average 28-year-old footballer is too old to play three games in the space of a week, particularly at this stage of the season However, he has been working very hard and pressing well, so it may be just to ensure he doesn't push himself too hard and pick up an injury. We do have a big enough squad to be able to rotate now though - something which none of us are particularly used to! (edit: Pete beat me to the first part!)
  2. Exactly - Real Madrid were found out last season when teams really started to sit back against them, rather than playing in a manner which would see them get caught on the counter attack. Last season was quite interesting in that respect, as some teams in Spain seemed to reverse their approaches to the big two: they started attacking Barça at times, and putting every man behind the ball against Real. That said, I'd still say one of our greatest weapons is the counter attack. I don't think we consistently rely on it per se, but it is something we do exceptionally well.
  3. He said something about a 'licking', can't remember what exactly, then said he'd get some 'stick' for saying that. Got to love Jeff.
  4. Joe Lolley scores a late goal for Kidderminster.
  5. Hopefully we can still be organised in the way we press in midfield, because Liverpool have a lot of players who we'll need to close down well.
  6. Villa (4-3-3) Guzan, Lowton, Vlaar, Okore, Luna; Bacuna, Westwood, Delph; Agbonlahor, Benteke, Weimann #avfc Subs: Steer, Clark, El Ahmadi, Helenius, Herd, Sylla, Tonev. #avfc ----- LIVERPOOL: Mignolet, Johnson, Enrique, Toure, Agger, Gerrard, Aspas, Coutinho, Henderson, Lucas, Sturridge Subs: Jones, Alberto, Cissokho, Allen, Borini, Sterling, Wisdom
  7. Ha, Leicester have just turned it around against Small Heath, who are now 2-1 down.
  8. ...as well as Barry Bannan, Alan Hutton, Charles N'Zogbia and Shay Given type players, ideally.

Oh I know, he's clever and he knows exactly what he's doing. His control of the media in this country and his use of mind-games is probably second to none now that Ferguson is gone. It's just... he's a massive bellend.
  10. Closed southbound between 10 & 10A. Not sure who that affects, as I use the A38 when I go to watch Villa (coming across from Derbyshire) so know nothing about the M6. At the moment it looks like things will still go ahead on time, but I'm hearing that the accident is bad and the motorway could be closed there for a few hours. AVFC put travel advice out on the website and Twitter, and currently saying that people are arriving as expected at VP. Edit: I just got the joke Duh!
  11. Kick-off is possibly going to be postponed due to an incident on the M6.
  12. I was actually surprised that most fans on their forum seemed generally level-headed (although the vast majority of them are anticipating a win!) as many that I've met personally tend to be deluded, self aggrandising fuckwits. That said, I do have a couple of close friends who are Liverpool fans, and they're generally more realistic. Still, I loathe Steven Gerrard with a passion, and I hope that Concrete Ron smashes him into the ground.
  13. One thing that's clear from reading the Liverpool forums (see my 'Opposite View' thread for their fans' thoughts) is that they seem to have a lot of faith in Kolo Touré. They were very impressed with his performance against Stoke and lots of them are expecting him to keep Benteke quiet. It'll be an interesting battle, but I think that even if he does manage to do an effective job, they have a lot more to worry about in terms of Gabby running in behind as they come out to meet Benteke.
  14. Wasn't it Palace who wanted Bent in a loan deal with an agreed fee at the end of the season, if they stayed up? Possible that Fulham also have a deal in place, but I don't recall reading anything about it.
  15. As well as a brace from KEA and a hat-trick from Delph In all seriousness though, they're all overdue one!
  16. Spoke about Benteke very coolly, and how much he trusts his young players. He may seem quite dour to some, but he still radiates belief. He also spoke about his midweek clash (if you can call it that) with Mourinho with a bit of a twinkle in his eye, laughing about the situation and saying how Jose contested everything, too.
  17. The gaffer's speaking on Soccer Saturday now. I love Lambo.
