  1. I wouldn't hang too much on the importance of those figures as 37.4% is relatively high. After all, this very government gained power with just one quarter of the potential electorate.
  2. So it appears there are plenty of reasons to vote for either side. The hardest part is to be tolerant of those opinions.
  3. I don't think the Leavers have the monopoly on idiotic thought processes. For example, my wife recently spoke to a clothes shop assistant who freely admitted she voted to 'Remain in Europe' because she didn't want to be part of something else 'like Africa'. A genuine quote!
  4. Are the EU too intransigent to consider amendment of just one of their numerous founding principles? Perhaps they might realise the current and impending further instability of the EU is more self destructive than change.
  5. Will Parliament's submission of Article 50 be a 'free vote' or a three line whip? As of 22nd June, only 158 of the 650 MPs had declared a Leave preference. Those 158 (assuming none has moved to Remain) need a lot of support from the 479 MPs who have declared a Remain preference, especially as many MPs may see the decision as a vote of conscience.
  6. It'll all come out in the wash. Besides, there's a possibility that Article 50 won't be submitted by the UK Parliament. Perhaps the next Conservative leader will put the will of Parliament above the will of the electorate.
  7. Eh? Some things are fine. Some are not. Time heals some things and breaks others. Time and humanity will continue regardless of any political party or trade group.
  8. Do those countries still get by well enough that they might believe being outside the EU but still trading with the EU, is a price worth paying? EDIT - I think we have strayed off the topic of this thread! Happy to continue in the EU thread.
  9. Without shouting, aren't there already numerous countries without uncontrolled immigration that trade with the EU?
  10. I don't believe any politician, let alone Johnson, would or could plan such a narrow window of defeat amongst such a massive electorate.
  11. When will we know when all the 'facts' have been established and whose version of the facts do we trust?
  12. I don't see how Johnson could have hoped to damage Cameron and obtain a Remain vote. Wouldn't anything other than a Leave result (or possibly a 51% Remain vote that was seen a too slender) have strengthened Cameron's position and pushed Johnson out in to the cold?
  13. Perhaps the UK should have continuous referendums until one side is backed unanimously. This appears to be as little as 62% in some circles.
  14. I'd be interested in others opinions of those who are disabled because of their weight. Do they count as disabled or lazy? During numerous trips to the U.S., I have witnessed lots of morbidly obese people sat in electric scooters whilst they scoffed hundreds of calories snack food. I remember queuing behind a man who appeared to be in his late thirties, both in age and in stone. He sat in his electric scooter and ate two large tubes of Pringles in less than 10 minutes. It was before 9am. I remember my mind swaying between pity, disgust and finally shame that I was thinking either emotion. I suppose one shouldn't judge until one knows the exact circumstances of each individual case but surely there's a chance that some individuals have self inflicted physical disability. Should that be then seen as a mental disability? Is extreme laziness a mental disability?
  15. I dislike much of what I know about Farage but I will admit that taking the VillaTalk referendum poll in to account, VillaTalk may not be the most balanced place to ask the above question.
  16. It is possible that a Remain result would have lead to even more racist attacks. It appears the referendum itself could be blamed, but we shouldn't allow a very small minority of mindless idiots to dictate to democracy.
  17. Does the EU single market not trade outside itself?
  18. I thought the UK's referendum result displayed a willing to leave the single market. Isn't that what a 'Leave the EU' success would mean? As for access to trade with the 'single market', why would any market refuse customers?
  19. The EU's own intransigence could be their own downfall.
  20. I won't buy one until I know it exists and I like it.
  21. I know it's an old photo but jeez, what a individual*. * moderated personal insult.
  22. The teachers always go back a day or two before the kids.
  23. It is possible to see why significant numbers of those in the more successful economies would not necessarily want to dilute their economies to create 'an even playing field' amongst a large number of countries with a great variation in living standards.
  24. Doesn't a single labour market disadvantage those countries with weaker economies to the extent that they lose skills and productive population? Doesn't a single labour market also risk alienating the local population of the more successful economies?
