  1. ah the figurehead that's provked wars and the death of millions over two milennia, ironic considering how peaceful he was supposed to be. Caught a part of it, but had to switch over due to the ridiculous tone of some of the commentators who take it all so seriously.
  2. i find the pissing contest between all the cartoons a bit annoying they're all funny, King of the Hill is also good fun, not laugh out loud but intelligent enough. Due to lack of sky i havent actually seen South Park in ages, except you tube clips etc, may have to bookmark Spisodes now Simpsons was the first cartoon in that kind wasn't it? Of course anything later on is going to be influenced it, perhaps Groening is just pissed his show is no longer funny any more?
  3. phrasing it as mediocre heaven seems a bit off Rocafella, that would infer we were stagnating rather than progressing. yes it's likely we'll finish in the upper reaches of mid table, but all as part of a steady plan. I don't know if that was intentional or not I just read it that way, seems a little pessimistic.
  4. what we can't choose -20 points for being rubbish in the transfer window? Oh damn. Sarcasm aside, I reckon 56-62, and top 8.
  5. hoaving looked on wikipedia, it seems that was a rahter dubious claim from said lecturer. Quality education I see.
  6. where did you get that info from ? it's a a claim which was largely unfounded and to my knowledge he fought for Belgium agianst the German invasion ...one of his cartoons (The Land of the Black Gold ) was banned due to it's anti facist overtones from a lecture I had on francophone lit around the war time, just stood out as something I'd remember. I'll try and find a link.
  7. Herge was a nazi sympathiser and the pictures are inherently racist. I don't know if it helps create a subconscious negative image or not, but I watched tintin as a kid and was never racist so maybe the effect is limiting, I also had a pretty decent education though so any notions of stereotyping would have been bashed out of me at a young age.
  8. Stackridge - Purple spaceships over Yatton enjoying these stackridge fellas
  9. To be honest, the flat earth idea wasn't as prevalent as often thought, pythagoras got to grips with the roundness in the 6thC BC, and it only became more well known again recently in the 19th century, with the intellectual clash between science and religion, where it randomly began to develop more support, from fundamentalists eager to dispute the silly scientific notion of a globular earth. Of course during the space race, their attempts to defend their beliefs became somewhat more tricky.
  10. IN truth I don't care if there is one, or two, or a collection of thousand little invisible flying turnicorns influencing our day to day activities. I only get bothered when religous rocket polishers try and influence everyone elses' lives, live and let live im in total favour of, but will always get pissed off when I see a certain group trying to **** with kids heads by demanding more creationism horse shit, or believing they're not suitable to be criticised etc.. latest thing, iranian fuckwits accusing britain of islamopphobia because we gave rushdie a knighthood. They can bloody well **** off. A talented author is recognised, and he's free to write about what he wants. Those tolerant muslims forced him to go underground for 10 years. Bellends.
  11. i concede the stories about the civilisations are fascinating, certainly far more so than considering the lyrical wit of rap as dylan moran apptly puts it: I have tried, believe me i have tried to like rap...and it makes me feel so very, very old. I have tried to get HOME with the downies...I cant do it. I understand blues music, y'know, its wonderful the story of the people's disenfranchisement. *strums* i aint got nuffin and theyv taken that away too... i havnt even got a guitar im strummin ma fucken belly button here! ...wonderful names all those guys, yknow, blind dead mcjones... with rap its not like that its all bout what people have got, about attainment yknow its very agressive. "i got pecs, i got bitches, i got limos ...my limos powered by bitch juice and all my spare pecs are in the limo..." they never say anything nice...ever... its always "im guna **** u up, im guna dig up your dad and shove him up your mom and drink your blood thru a drinkin cup ya ****!"
  12. that's cultural stuff I guess. I'd consider myself an Atheist, but I wouldn't be aghast if my future wife wanted her day in a white dress in a church. Again, whilst I wouldn't want to christen my kids, if the future mrs me decided she wanted to, Id probably give in, or at least use it to get off housework for a year or something, test her resolve etc. Not bothered about funerals really as I won't be there to 'enjoy it'. Also I really don't think it's a massive contradiction celebrating certain festivities, either. I enjoy the xmas holidays, as there's families together, the odd good film on telly and the exchanging of gifts, so fadging what if it's done nominally in the name of some dead guy?
  13. three groups believing in the wealth of power control and human manipulation? yeah that seems about right to me
  14. atheist / church of the flying spaghetti monster - but that's only because I want to dress up as a pirate on wednesdays, being the religious atire of choice. In fact on consideration, I'm probably a spagnostic. Organised religion in general is gobshite. God, or a higher being, I have no problems with, that I can understand, but the coercvie elements of it, and the odd desire people seem to have to read from the same hymn sheet ( pun intended ) rather than develop their own conclusions disappoints me.
  15. scouting needs to be improved, and I'm sure it will, now MoN's got more time presumably to plan and think to the summer.
  16. sources close to Ellis? well if he comes up with the goods it'll be worth it presumably. Sidwell yes please, Marlon King not on your nelly.
  17. "I think Gabby and Big John upfront could be a devistating combination of pace, power and finishing. Power and pace blended into one goalscoring machine. On top of this Maloney showed yesterday some flashes of what he can do Attacking Midfieilder confident and comfortable Left, Right and Centre!" provided we play like we did against blackburn and not just lump it up long ball to JC each time
  18. what they played rush goalie? Blimey we really are shit.
  19. il be at a cocktail bar then getting very drunk so not going to watch a pointless easy win for england which will reveal nothing positive about the side, a boring 3-0 win really
  20. I voted Dalton, if only to be different. Connery was very good, and I can't comment on Craig yet as I havent seen the film but he sounds like I Bond I'll enjoy seeing based on comments here. Lazenby was woeful, Roger Moore hilariously bad though he did seem to get the films that were competing with Star Wars... Moonraker anyone?:lol I liked Dalton's two films as I thought he was appropriately miserable. I haven't got anything really against Brosnan, he's just a bit too sleek really I guess, although Goldeneye is one of my favourite films.
  21. explains plenty of my old school friends recent "body expansions" then I suppose
  22. aaaarrgh this thread is ,aking me yearn so much for a good old british chippie at the chipshop usually salt and vinegar, ill add the sauce later when i get home, altohugh if you're talking about a grab nrun n scoff then i'll have the old ketchup on too. Never seen the mayo fascination myself mind. Mayo is the preserve of chicken salad sandwiches imo
  23. I'd love Geremi too, but Jose rates him too highly to let him go I think. CHelsea need him as their competing on 4 fronts still, but maybe in the summer id like to see us go for him
