  4. Hogwash, Laursen would have got us more wins in the slump period when we played 4-4-2, and you know that. I made a little mistake saying "Only worked" ofcourse that's impossible. I think my Everton comparison is valid, people like to draw comparisons to SAF's early Manchester United team when we're struggling, only fair if I can too. My point is Everton kept the system consistent, and in the end they qualified for the Champions League. And they had to deal with problems also, but they got the job done. how can FACT be hogwash, go do the analysis, Laursen's last ten games and the first ten after he was injured, I've already done it, I know I'm right. Losing Laursen did nothing in terms of results, we were perfectly able to cope without him. Guess what though, ten games later the slump started, which iirc coincides with Curtis Davies first occurence of his shoulder injury and then we were down to the bare bones, we were playing a man at 75% and we suffered for it thereafter. Davies shoulder wasnt the only factor but it was certainly a major one but in reality it has little to do with formation and was more to do with the fact we had so few capable players left in the squad Laursen was a quality player, we struggled without him during the slump period.

  6. Surely 4-5-1 was worth a shot in that slumping period? I just believe people in their own minds want everything to be perfect, and nobody to be disgruntled. MON has done an excellent job, but he will make mistakes. And last season he made a colossal mistake. This season 4-4-2 is working, credit to MON.
  7. You have some sort of proof for this nonsense I presume I believe changing the system to 4-4-2 was the main reason we didn't sustain 4th spot. Our central defenders needed more protection from the center midfield(two CMs who lacked pace), 4-4-2 only worked when we had Laursen at the back because he was capable of organising and winning the ball back at the first attempt. I remember Everton playing 4-5-1 the season they finished 4th, Moyes never changed that system and they achieved 4th place. The people who think it's nonsense are just trying to hide their hidden agenda, MON, like any other manager makes mistakes.

  9. 4-5-1 did work last season, and once we changed it we didn't win in three months.
  10. Where's Kyle Naughton? He looked a very good prospect at Sheffield United.
  11. I disagree Blandy about Sidwell. Sidwell has great footballing ability, I think he has more ability than Petrov, I remember Sidwell at Reading and he was awesome, he tore us apart in the away game. It's just how we play at Villa, we are very direct and use the wings more than the CMs. NRC is more suited for us IMO.
  12. Not quite as "rubbish" as suggesting we should replace Carew with Zamora. I never said that bud, I said he wouldn't be a bad buy for us. I want Carew to stay.
  13. Not nearly as rubbish as suggesting that game is evidence without question that Petrov is not capable in a 442. I say it alot on here, correlation does not imply causation. The fact of the matter is, with a football match, it's impossible to simply state what's being stated here because of the immense amount of variables inherent in a match, stats almost inevitably mean nothing, though if we didn't use them our arguments on here would be quite short lived. We won at Bolton because their defence was dire, Carew had a good game for once, etc etc. Petrov not playing had almost no bearing. We seem to have got to the point that some must see that Petrov is crap in a 442 and 451 is the be all and end all. I'm sorry, it's not. Blandy put a good argument forth a week or so ago for why 451 is not the only answer, I'm afraid I can't be bothered to look for it. Petrov can play in a 442, he often does and we generally do fairly well. Now we seem to have finally hit on the desired style of our team with Downing come in, I think we may see this go from strength to strength. I'm sorry Chindie, NRC and Sidwell were both good that game and they did deserve to play against Burnley. Petrov is playing well at the moment, but he is awful next to Sidwell and vice versa.
  14. Oh, we only won because they were shite? rubbish.
  15. Bale is a poor defender from what I've seen, he is not too bad going forward, maybe they should try him LW.
  16. I thought he was MOTM yesterday, he is very composed on the ball also, he definitely deserves a call up for England. I'm hoping Curtis Davies will come good for us in the same manner.
  17. 4 Years? It took MON one full season to get us into Europe.
  18. Joey what is Michael Dawson on this season? He has been immense.
  19. I can't wait for Carson Yeung to fiddle with the accounts
