Stats show that we had 63% possession but I can’t remember the Newcastle keeper having anything to do? That is startling really. It was a really bad day at the office and one of the worst performances this season. Let’s see the reaction at the weekend.

First true test for Gerrard since being here, as people are now questioning him already. I hope he sees a reaction in training and I hope he’s ruthless in his selection next weekend. Nobody should be guaranteed a start.

Don’t think we’ll see him starting next weekend, nor should he. Needs to get his head straight.

He’s not blowing us away with his performances so far but the whole defence has been a little shaky since the turn of the year, even Martinez. Digne has over 40 caps for France to date, so he should prove to be better than Targett over time.

Be very interesting to see if Gerrard gets a reaction out of the players this half, as it was a big criticism of Smith that he couldn’t get one. I think a couple of changes are required now to be honest. 6 or 7 deserve the hook at this point.
