  1. Question for Spurs fans... What are your thoughts on Bentley now? We've been heavily linked with him in the past and to be honest, he's always been a player i've liked and thought would fit in well up here. Has he been playing centrally or wide right cover for Lennon?
  2. I was contracting for BENPCT until the start of April, there were massive cost cutting exercises going on due to the impending merger into the single pan-Birmingham commissioning organisation. Any spending was being pushed out the door as the money is being taken away in the near future and all budget lines need to be allocated in advance and justified. Management costs are to be reduced by 40-45% over 18 months or so from the start of the year. Temps started going last year, contractors this year and unfilled vacancies had to be in place before a deadline and approved by vacancy control panel. Just before i left all posts were being offered as 12 month contracts rather than permanent positions as they will be slashed. No need for new measures, I think what you saw was a reaction to what is already happening.
  3. There are regularly threads in OnTopic that make me wonder if there is actually any in here.
  4. Watched The Proposal at the weekend with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. It's a Rom Com but pretty decent as far as they go and something you might want to consider if you're looking for brownie points off the lady folk. Also saw The Counterfeiters and that was great. Punchy without being harrowing and it is a surprisingly easy watch considering the subject. Acting was superb and the lead has a real presence about him.
  5. maybe they aren't ? the sky vote thingy seemed to show most VT people agreed with the poliices that related to the party they happened to support .. of course some of them may well have known the policy they were picking and which party it related to .. No offence intended on this but having endured numerous political threads on VT over the years I'm pretty sure if Cameron was on stage wearing nothing but a gimp mask and shitting into a brown paper bag you'd still vote Tory, and Drat likewise for labour. However, I was talking more outside of VT, I know plenty who will not really look at the policies in any depth or be swayed by the tv debates, they will vote for whomever they have always voted for, sadly, even though the political spectrum no longer exists.
  6. Only caught the last half hour (and seen the reporting on the rest) but Cameron managed to break a record for the most words spoken without saying anything. Brown was quiet and Cleggy seemed to be attacking both in turn pretty aggressively without any meaningful response. Cleggy is cleaning the floor with them IMO as a floating voter. I've said it before but I still don't get why so many people vote on outdated political allegiances.
  7. Grants gone mad everyone It's not that, well maybe it is....i'm sure i had a point that i was going to make....but it's gone. Yep, definitely madness then.
  8. Players inevitably move on and as disappointing as it is when they're your stars, virtually every big club will rely on some profitable player trading. I cant say i'd be happy with £24 million though. He's emerging as one of Englands best central midfielders. Given another season there i think he will be closer to the 50million mark that Gerrard and Lampard have both held when a bit younger.
  9. Gabby15 got hold of you then. :| Sorry Gabby!
  10. For anyone who still hasn't seen Zombieland then make the effort as it is brilliant. Saw it again last night and loved it even more than the first time.
  11. Ha ha. [genuine concern]Poor lass[/genuine concern]. "PM Inbox"? Is that anything to do with this thread?
  12. I thought we played really well at times, especially the midfield with much improved pass and move football. Everton were difficult to break down as ever and looked dangerous on the counter. I think the support tonight was excellent on the whole and seemed really appreciated by the players at the end of the game. Their effort was there for all to see and was also glad to hear Martin getting such vociferous backing. It really was a night deserving of a win. The only moments that support dipped was when frustration crept in but I just dont understand this. The midfield moved the ball well and kept possession and kept probing, sometimes you do have to move backwards and sideways to change teams shape, find spaces and hit the timing on runs. As fans we will need to learn to be patient and allow the team to develop a style of possession play that can break teams down. We have forced two goals out of a very resolute defence and midfield tonight from what everyone knows is a very solid and well drilled team. Carew and Cuellar should also both have tucked away their easy chances so we certainly troubled them. My only complaints on performance would be the quality of balls into the box really wasnt good enough on the whole, especially from Downing who after a decent first 20 minutes driving inside and taking shots on really faded out of being a threat. And that we conceded 2 very soft headed goals. The refereeing was a joke at times. Friedel - 5 - Not much to do, would like to see the goals again but he seemed to be nowhere and also got beaten at his near post with Ash saving him and us on the line. Cuellar - 7 - Really decent game and got some nice passes into the area. Defended very well. Warnock - 6 - Ok, always available for passes and didnt give away possession as much as I have seen him do recently. Looks a little lacking in confidence though. Collins - 6 - Good game with a few crucial blocks and would have been higher mark but a few times got beaten too easily on the deck and let Everton turn and run at us. Dunne - 8 - Thought he was exemplary tonight and really tried to force the game on top of his defensive duties. Petrov - 8 - Superb game from our captain keeping the ball under pressure, moving it across midfield and making little passing shapes. Milner - 8 MOTM - Superb effort, great assist and won alot of battles in the middle. Would have liked to see him just get a few more shots away though in fairness to him he made a coulple of good runs that were missed. Downing - 5 - Posed a threat early on but seemed to lose his bottle and quality as the game went on. Ash - 6 - Assist but his delivery was generally poor as well and not only did he not beat his man he struggled to make room for crosses. Carew - 6 - Bad miss after doing so well to fashion a chance. Movement not quite in tune with the midfield at times. Gabby - 7 - Anonymous at times but grew into the game and a good goal. Held the ball up well at times too. Again as with Carew, didnt always really look like he knew how to play with the midfield passing it about. Gutted we didnt get the win that the performance and support warranted.
  13. Well, it's a US quart, which is just under a liter, but yeah. (though 7-Eleven goes as big as 64 fl. oz. (1.8 liter) soda cups) I hope for your sake you take that pictures advice and have diet. Otherwise you're looking at 30 teaspoons of sugar in just under litre. Filthy stuff fizzy pop... i wouldnt be upset to see it taken off the menu's.
  14. One of my favourite films of last year (page 28 of this thread). Seems like the director took a whole lot of liberties with the editing process though if you check out the Twin Galaxies forum. Great movie though. Just a heads up...Looked into this one and it is free to watch online for anyone with a lovefilm subscription. Hopefully will get onto it later.
  15. ***Spoiler*** My mate said the same and I asked him whether he honestly figured out that it was all staged as part of a therapy, which IMO is near impossible to figure out anywhere near the beginning of the film. And 90% of the film is the staging of events, working out he is a patient is the obvious bit, that doesn't really tell you what was going on though.
  16. I'm not a fan from what i've seen so far, exacerbated by just how much it is being pushed by the market that wants people to invest in it and upgrade their equipment. It really is being hyped from every direction. I'm hearing that sport in 3D is awesome though and really i need to see a bit more before i judge. I dont forsee that i would ever buy the glasses and link up box in addition to a tv for my home, so it needs to get to become 'glassless' for me to want to invest. It's expensive, limits how many people can watch and makes you look a tw@t. On the plus side it is driving down prices on lcd, plasma and led tv's which is a bonus. I love the picture quality of led and may look to invest in one of those soon.
  17. Just realised it sounds as if you've already watched them Briggaman. So that advice is for anyone who hasnt already.
  18. Yes mate, saw both parts last year (think I mentioned it at the time in this thread) and they were superb, Vincent Cassel really impressed me. Ditto. Got both through lovefilm and watched them back to back on a Sunday afternoon. Very entertaining, thought provoking and occassionally very funny. I think i mentioned it earlier but there is a film called the Baadher Meinhoff Complex and its subject matter is referenced in the 2nd Mesrine film. It isnt too important but i would watch that first, mostly because its an excellent film but also as it gives a context to the direction the character istrying to move in and the political mood of the time. That said, i didnt know anything about the subject before, whereas others may not be so ignorant.
  19. When all is said and done Chelsea are still buying success whereas Man U have built it on solid foundations which earns them more respect imo. Plus it would really piss of the scousers if they won another title. And Ashley Cole plays for Chelsea. And John Terry come to think of it. Ha, do you remember that time he took a penalty in the Champions League final and fell over! Good times.
  20. Lovefilm have some films free to stream online if you have a subscription. Have about 20 to watch but started with Chopper today. Really easy watch considering the subject and Eric Bana turns in a really good performance.
  21. Not for me. Spurs are the worst of the worst bunch. I'd rather anyone (except SHA) got 4th than them. I'd rather the top 4 was monopolised for ever than Spurs get it. This. Well, it would be a close run thing between Spurs and Newcastle, but we put to bed any chance of them being able to get 4th last season. I'm far more interested in what gives us the best chance of getting Champions League next season than what Spurs fans think of themselves or their team. Saying that you'd rather the top 4 was monopolised than they get it once is more bitter than a 29 year old lemon with 4 kids and no husband. Talk about cutting your own nose off to spite your face.
  22. But what would you do if there were twelve bears? Start a thread on VT to get a consensus of course To be honest though, if there were 12 bears and a T-Rex involved i would more than likely soil myself. If not in fear, then sheer bloody excitement!
  23. Assuming that Villa have now blown their chances (though i do have some hope still) then I think it's really important that Spurs are the team who get in that spot. Not getting 4th will be devastating to Liverpool who have the structure and standing that needs to be fed by Champions League money and prestige. Torres has said he is committed but when it comes down to it we'll see. Same for Gerrard. Benitez will certainly lose support from the owners, fans and maybe players but remains almost unsackable due to his huge contract. While the owners relationship should only deteriorate further with the additional financial worries a failure to qualify would bring. Man City simply need to be slowed as much and for as long as possible. The only way to do so is deny them Champions League football and hope they end up with a squad full of talented but volatile mercenaries rather than becoming a credible european power. If they get in the top 4, it will be hard to get them out. At least until there are any rule changes on spending. Spurs are the best of a bad bunch and the same as if we get in. Whilst it will strengthen us, there is a possibility of not progressing far at all, maybe not even past qualifying ala Everton a few years back. Spurs getting it leaves the most open field for next year. Hopefully causing serious discontent at Man City and Liverpool at the same time.
  24. I'd bring my T-Rex to the party and sit back.
