  1. i think you may have taken my post out of context briny, i was referring to next deason should we fail to be promoted. by all reports we will need to half our wage bill overnight to balance the books for another season in the championship- and to me that means focusing on youth and having a longer term outlook is likely the prudent choice.
  2. its an interesting point - to charge or not charge ST holders for thr semis. There are a number of quotes out there that suggest the matchday turnstyle money for clubs of our size isnt significant in the grand scheme of things. For instance match tickets in Germany are generally in the region of €15 as to charge more would risk the ground not being full. perhaps villa arent as commercially savvy or as appealing in some way than other clubs, or maybe the articles ive read dont hold weight, but iff it works in germany im not sure why it wouldnt work here...
  3. well wyness and round, and if i recall correctly even Xia, have all stated quite strongly that the manager foremost goal is promotion so if he did in fact say those words i'd be concerned about Xia and the club for other reasons than SB. but should we fail to win promotion, it would not the the only thing you listed that i believe he has failed to do.
  4. Bruce has shown here and throughout his career that building sides around young players isnt what he is good at. For Aston Villa to survive should we fail to gain promotion through the play offs lwe will need to build around our youth. why on earth would we keep a man we know cant do the job that needs doing on the basis that he did alright with the most resources in the division?
  5. the difference being the people who run the club set his expectations as champions league qualification - which he achieved. whether a section of fans thought the should have done better, quite frankly is irrelevant. ts chairmans and boards that set targets and decide the extent to which they were or not met. in peps case they were so far in sbs case he hasnt met any
  6. you're doing it again though proclaiming your not comparing things on going on to compare them. ultimately 1 manager achieved what was asked of him when he arrived and the other did not. Managers who do not meet expectations regardless of resources lose their jobs and rightly so. they are hired to achieve X result, if they fail, they lose their jobs - thats just how it works. Ans should we fail to gain promotion i expect a new manager next season
  7. i can assure you the themajority of them will be if we failto secure promotion as the funds are not in place to pay them next season if we dont. the club literally cannot keep them financially unless we go up.
  8. you intimated people expected Bruce to win promotion in his first season. As i dont know a single person who thought that would happen when he started in october i took your meaning of 1st season to mean his first full season. but in their case you compare pep moving to a new country with what 8 years management experience and finishing where he was asked to in a champions league place to Steve Bruce a man with over 3 decades of experience in english football who not only failed to meet the publicised board expectation but also his own public expectation and you really think thats the same thing?!?!?!?
  9. just wanted to look at the squad and whats likely to happen to it if we dont go up Golini - GONE Johnstone - GONE Bunn - GONE Steet Sarkic De Laet Taylor Samba - GONE Chester - GONE Bree Richards Hutton - GONE Amavi - GONE Elphick - GONE Terry - GONE Elmohamedy Tuanzebe - GONE Gil - GONE DoyleHayes Whelan Snodgrass - GONE Lansbury - GONE Grealish - GONE Hourihane Jedinak Onomah - GONE Green Thor Gardner - GONE oHare Adomah - GONE Lyden Hogan Agbonlahor - GONE Mccormack - GONE Kodjia - GONE? Davis HepburnMurphy thats 19 out of 38 players with squad numbers. Its going to be a massive job next season to compete after losing half the squad and with a smaller budget and less resources. Whoever is in charge i dont think can be realistically be set promotion as a target. We need to take a look at the youth team and lower/foreign leagues to sign young promising players and have a manager capable of working with a large young squad and build them up for the future.
  10. you cant have your cake and eat it tro. youre comparing peps first season with bruces despite bruce having beenat the club for most of the previous year. Peps goal for that season wasnt 'win the league' it was 'challenge for the league' a goal he solidly achieved. Bruces goal was promotion. A goal he has not yet achieved and until he does achieve it then he has failed. United spent obscene amounts of money for mourinho and his remit was to win the league so he has failed. Spurs spent nowhere near as much as the 4 clubs around them and their goal was champions league qualification which it looks like they will achieve. if they dont then poch may well lose his job.
  11. if we are a championship side next season 3 of those 4 will not be villa players when the window closes. we simply cannot afford to keepthem and i know at least 1 of them wants to be playing in the prem whatever the cost next season.
  12. fulham winning 1 game puts nothing to bed. im resigned to the playoffs but not for 1 minute do i think we shouldnt try for automatic. if we win our last 3, then its down to others to stop us getting 2nd. we likely wont, but we SHOULD be doing all we can to win the next 3 to 6 games
  13. the samba sub sums up why SB needs to leave. we were creating all the chances, leeds not having a sniff, so he takes off an attacking player for a defender?!?!?!? the man is clueless
  14. if i were a cardiff fan id be wondering how we didnt win. created by far the better chances and prob should have had 3/4 before we had a shot on target. starting lineup was naive, and tactics throughout were poor. still not making the most of having the biggest squad in the division. cant wait for him to be sacked.
  15. norwich hammer us and now losing to sunderland!!! thats how shit we are!!!
  16. SB should be sacked after this match. utter embarrassment!
  17. cant see anything but a big humiliating loss here. Cardiff are a team that possess the kind of qualities that always seem to undo us. 4-0
  18. sack Bruce PLEASE!!!! Yet again he doesnt change the starting 11 when playing 3 games in a week Yet again throws all the strikers onto the pitch when we arent even creating chances The man is incapable of learning from his mistakes, cant seem to understand how to utilise his players to make the most of their qualities and seems allergic to using youth when experience isnt working. When someone is playing poorly DROP THEM Taylor hasnt had a good game all season that i can recall. We have youth players that can play there - try one, its not as though they could do worse!!! Completely underwhelmed by the so called 'promotion specialist' and i think his spell with us shows him up for what he is - a relic whose footballing philosophy is not longer relevant in the modern game. Get rid and bring in a creative, proactive, progressive manager who can work with young players and spot a bargain as itll take 3/4 years now to get out of this league
  19. I dont understand people saying the manager got it right... Yeah we were in control for the first 30 minites, we pumped cross after cross onto the box - and we creayed pretty much no goal scoring chances. Little point flinging the ball into the box when our only forward on the pitch is a foot shorter than the defenders hes competing with and when said forward is the only one breaking into the box. After the red card, we were able to commit more players forward which caused the defence to often be out of position - there was no sign of this happening before the red card. Yes we dominated posession, but Reading were comfortable in defence and caused them little to no problems when ot was 11 v 11. If bruce wants to play a style of football where we pump crosses in he needs to either give more players an attacking licence or he needs to play a bigger front man. Otherwise we will be relying on a red card every game before we look likely to score.
  20. Dont think hitting it with a pressure washer a couple of times a year os too much to ask personally...
  21. nail head hit its not strikers generally that create goals its the midfield. id sooner take off a fullback for a midfielder that a midfielder for a forward. doesnt make sense to me
  22. im seeing a lot os posys saying we dont have the squad to change how we play - sorry but this simply isnt the case in my eyes. what i see we lack most is tenacity. our u23 team has this in spades. weve used what 15 or 16 different players in the starting 11 of the last 3 games? so many players out of form that could be rotated out to inject a bit of life into the team. i dont think its that we dont have the players i think the coaching staff dont have the foresight or the balls to introduce the youngsters at the expense of experienced pros. maybe the young lads arent technìcally gifted enough to play every week, but they certainly can bring energy and creativity to a side that at the moment is devoid of ideas. its time to start taking the out of form players out of the side and give the kids a run. even if it fails it cant get much worse than 1 point in 3 games.
  23. i watched all his games for united and he didnt play like this at all. either our coaching methods or tactics have changed his playing style for the worse
