  1. Oh if anyone knows of good sites to buy retro villa shirts at reasonable prices please drop me a message. Always on the lookout for older replicas
  2. I have the long sleeve of the white one. Its looking a little tired as i wear it so much. Never liked any of the shirts with genting on them as i really hate the look of the sponsor on them...
  3. I saw them on ebay for 10 each so just had to get them especially as it celebrated the cup final
  4. My favorite away shirt ever I own 6 of them with the cup stenciling on them :-D
  5. I think we are seeing the players following instructions and not being good enough to fulfill them. Bruce is asking attacking players to play defensive roles and they arent very good at it
  6. I think the players are carrying out instructions given to them by the manager but in most cases the instructions dont play to the players strengths so the player doesnt meet the managers expections. I firmly believe ( as bruce has a history of playing negative football) that he is asking the likes of lansbury and hourihane to sit deeper and protect. The problem is that isnt what they are good at so they cant meet the managers request because hes effectively playing them out of position. One of the reasons Taylor is doing ok - he is a defensive left fullback which suits bruces style. Lansbury and hourihane at attacking creative forward looking progressive players being asked to sit back keep it tight and tackle. Complete waste of talent.
  7. I have never been a fan of SB even when we were on that great run. I dont think his style of play and his ethos match in any way the players he signed in january and this i think is the issue with our issues on the pitch. SB doesnt set teams out to play good football and be attacking and/or creative. He builds teams with guts and determination with limited ability to be solid and graft. Lansbury and Hourihan are not those things - they are footballers who play pass and move attacking and creative football. I winder whether SB chose these players or someone else did and now SB is trying to make it work but doesnt know how to. I think a different manager with a different style could get a lot more from this squad than SB is currently managing to do.
  8. Assuming we are to play 4-3-3 as our primary formation i'd expect a squad balance as follows: 3 x GK 2 x RB 2 x LB 4 x CB 2 X DCM 4 X CM 3 X WF 3 X CF Leaving 2 spaces plus any u21 players. Steer is unproven, i believe Bunn is out of contract and i've not seen enough of any of our younger keepers to include them so we need 2 GK signings Bree is our starting RB for me, and we have an aging Hutton and a returning De Laet. Either one of these could take a spare squad place but RB appears covered. Taylor is our starting LB, and my sources at the club tell me Amavi is unlikely to be at the club next season. Whilst we could gamble on De Laet or Hutton covering i'd rather we signed a dedicated LB (though i think Taylor is good enough, if we are looking at a LB we could upgrade). Chester and Baker are our current starting CB. Bruce doesnt appear keen to use Elphick or Richards who are our backups so i think we can assume we will see at least 1 if not 2 new CB's come in. Again, if we are looking why not upgrade? Jedinak for me is our only DCM. We need another, so why not upgrade? Lansbury, Hourihane, Gardner, Bacuna and Thor are our CM options. Whilst this may appear sufficient i dont feel Gardner and Bacuna are good enough, whilst i'm still undecided on Thor. If we can find buyers i think we need to upgrade these 2 with players at least as good as Lansbury and Hourihane appeared at their previous clubs. Adomah and Green are our only recognised wingers (you could lump Grealish in here but i frankly dont think he fits into our squad at all). I dont think any of our wingers are good enough and this is an area that needs at least 1 signing. Kodjia and Hogan are fine strikers on there day (and i mean fine in the 'fine art' way and not in 'they are ok' way). But strikers lose form and confidence and we need more options. McCormack, Gabby arent up to it IMO and jury is still out on RHM so perhaps a loan signing here? So thats 6-9 players coming in just to balance the squad. Now, we do have a lot of returning loan players who could take these spots, but thats a big if. I'm also not saying this all needs to be done in a single window but its what i believe we need to compete for automatic promotion. (Please dont sign Johnstone!!!)
  9. There are at least 6 squads and managers that id pick over ours as they either won promotion or a playoff place. Stats and reputation mean nothing if you dont get results and 11 squads and managers have amassed better results than us this season.
  10. 5th nest defence because we are a horribly negative team that sits deep and put most of our plyers behind the ball not because our defenders are good. 5th top scorer who is a very talented guy who has scored the lions share of the teams goals on his own 9th top scorer : how many are for villa? 1 i believe 1st and 2nd top assists: again vast majority of those assists were nit for aston villa. You know bruce has got 4 protions from this division that must mean we got promoted... oh wait, we didnt... Just because players get goals and assists at other club doesnt nevessarily mean they are good players and can do it somewhere else. Particularly in the case of hourihane and lansbury : the clubs they came from played very differently to the way we play and the players themselves played very different roles in those teams compared to the roles they fill in ours. Based on how they perform in their current roles in their current team they are far from good enough.
  11. Dont know why you think we controlled the game... We had less posession We had less time in the attacking 3rd We had less shots overall We had less shots on target We created less chances We had a lower pass success rate We lost more 50/50 and one on ones We had a lower tackle success rate So i really dont see how we controlled anything...
  12. On a seperate note delighted with the win today and i sincerely hope SB contines to rub my face in it ( as i said we needed to savk him to move forward and start winning) Happy to be proven wrong and made a fool of for many more games! That said, i really hope he can improves performances as we look like a terrible football team...
  13. Cant disagree enough with this post. Norwich had more shots than us today and only thanks to some smart work from Sam (never thought od say that) they would have scored a few. Thats ehat 69% posession got them They also spent 3 times as long in our box as we did in theres and but for jerome not being as good as kodjia should have made more of what they created. Similarly we didnt only create two chances, we missed a couple of sitters ourselves ( houihans header against the bar comes to mind) so to make out like we scored our only 2 chances is way off for me as is making out norwich did nothing with their posession. Both asserions are pure fantasy. You also mention that johnstone didnt have much to do yet i believe he made more saves in this game than any other since he joined us. So another assertion that just simply isnt true. The 'hobbits in the middle' as you call them were all absent for much of the hame and had amoungst the poorest passes attempted and passes completed stats of any on the pitch today. Bar lansburys tackling back the midfield by in large were poor today and were rightly bypassed for most of the second half.
  14. Great to win but the performances aren't improving at all. Ill take the win but we cant afford to be playing such poor football against good sides - we'll get found out
  15. I'll eat my words and swallow my pride and admit that Bruce has turned our fortunes when i didnt feel he had it in him - well done SB. However, though our fortunes are on the up i still dont see any real improvement to the quality of football we are playing, and this concerns me a great deal. I hope SB continues to prove me wrong and turns us into the passing team i believe we can be. But i dont see it happening and i still dont think he is the man to take us up. But as he has proved me wrong once i will back him til this time next year.
  16. Bfuce has had a window where we replaced the majority of the starting 11. Hes has a number of montha at the club to engrain his tacyics and methods. Come the end of the season if we still look clueless on the pitch, are still making silly errors, are still playing poor football and still making questionable subs there he should not keep the job because it should not be taking that long to drill players into a particular system. I fully believe that one of our biggest issues is poor coaching. Especially given how our cms suddenly cant pick a pass when they could at previous clubs. You dont just lose the ability to make a 10 yard pass to a team mate - this is down to coaching and tactics. Both of which i believe Bruce to be relatively poor at.
  17. How can it be bad luck that in the majority of games we fluff our chances and our opponents do not? If it was the case a few times a year i could understand but this is game 6 or 7 out of 10 where weve had as many or more chances than our opponent and failed to get a result.
  18. Same old story with mossed chances. If it happens now and again its bad look but for us its happening consistently and for me thats bad coaching. Cant see us ever getting out of this league with this setup. Dont think any of them are any good.
  19. Ive watched each of our last 9 games, not live but after the fact and many times over. Other than Bruce messing with the formation i see very little change in individual performance (i.e. the things they are trying to do) the only marked difference i see is the quality of the opposition allowed us to complete more of the movements than better opposition would have. I hope im wrong, but i fear when we meet hiddesgield we will see something closer to 9 games ago than the last 3. I honestly cant see anything on the pitch has really changed and i think thats ultimately down to coaching as opposed to some all encompassing curse as some are suggesting.
  20. 3 wins and 3 cleans sheets is a great achievement the manager and players deserve credit for that accomplishment. Howver, for me our performances havent really changed. Weve just come up against lesser opponents and had less bad luck. Ive still seen nothing to suggest Bruce has a plan or is the man to take us forward. I remain firmly unconvinced.
  21. I believe its because he flocked the ball away from goal and from what ive seen im not convinced he would have been able to keep it in.
  22. Honestly? I dont recall it being said about a squad as good as ours that has performed as badly as ours. But maybe im delusional...
  23. 3 point, though very much needed, only papers over the cracks. For me the yeam selection and tactics were poor and did little to make use of the talent we have in the squad. Though i understand the purpose of the subs made i dont understand why he would make that decision. Derby werent creating anything so i dont see the need to drop deeper and invite them on even more. Poor decision for me. So happy for the last to have the win under their belts. But still see nothing from SB that gives me the feintest impression that he knows what hes doing or has a plan. Comes across as though hes randomly selecting players half the time. Im still concerned about relegation and still feel SB is not the man to lead us through this.
  24. Last high scoring mid i can recall is platt...
  25. Tro, you can say that he underestimated the job etc, but that doesnt explain things like taking off 2 strikers and putting a right midfielder up front or going 2 goals down before half time and not changing anything until the 80th minute. These are the decisions of a man who is floundering because he doesnt know what to do - and its his obvious signs of being overwhelmed that tell me we need to move on. No amount of time is going to fix SB
