    I wonder why lower league clubs don't always loan players ready for the start of the season. Maybe they want to have a look at them in a couple of U21 games first to see how they have progressed over the summer. Chrisene, in particular, seems to have taken a step forward and looks a better prospect than he may have done a few weeks ago.

    Thought we played well for an hour or so, just lacked quality up front. Leeds weren't great but their new summer signing, Sonny Perkins (who we were linked with), made the difference. I wonder when we will see some of the younger, more talented forwards like Burchall, K. Young or Shakpoke step up to the U21s.

    Is this a lack of discipline by McGinn by failing to adhere to his instructions? Or is Gerrard trying a tactic that isn't working? Watched a bit of the Man U-Brighton game earlier and Brighton played the 'Kamara' way but with 3 CBs instead of a defensive midfielder. The two 'McGinn-JJ' central midfielders held their shape for the most part. The 'Coutinho-Bailey' wide players switched between being narrow without the ball and going wide with the ball. Trossard was particularly good at this. Up front they had Welbeck who did the Watkins role but with more quality. Overall, they had a clear plan and the players stuck to it. Either Gerrard should have the system in place by now or he should know McGinn/others cannot be trusted to carry it out.

    Thought we did ok in the first half. Middlesbrough had a fair amount of territory and possession but we had that extra bit of quality in the form of El Ghazi. 3-0 did flatter us though. When O'Reilly went off injured it looked like a change of system to a 4-2-3-1 and we lost the midfield until we switched back to 4-3-3 after Hart came on. Unfortunately the score was 3-3 by that point. O'Reilly has moments of real quality but too much loose play in between. Chrisene struggled initially then improved. Raikhy, Feeney, Marschall and Revan were decent I thought. El Ghazi was too good for them in the first half then stopped trying in the second. Still no sign of Bogarde. Cannot remember the last time I saw him play.

    Weren't they one of the clubs trying to sign Renato Sanches? If so, he has just signed for Paris. Maybe Luiz has moved up their wanted list.

    Sounds promising. We could we some creativity in midfield at that level. The CEE Cup midfield was workmanlike but lacked a bit of guile. Do you know anything about Dylan Mitchell? Never seen him before but he seemed to have something about him.

    I'd rather he didn't go back to Exeter. Better to throw him in the deep end somewhere else and see how he copes, rather than somewhere he is comfortable with. He'd probably move back in with his parents too which is not ideal.

    Watched both games. Unlucky to go home with 0 points after a good overall performance in the first game and what looked like a shocking decision to award the game winning penalty and a red card in the second. A couple of observations about the players: Young - only got to see him briefly but still stood out. Not only does he have great dribbling skill and balance, but he has the vision and final ball at the end of each run. Exciting player. Katsukunya - I can see why the club have brought him in. Tall, athletic, good balance. Smith - reminded me a little of Declan Rice in the first game in particular with his ability to bring the ball forward. One or two others had promising displays over the two games - Mitchell, Hart, Lutz, Swinkels, Revan. Pierre and Young seem taller than I remember last season.
