  1. The thing is, there's a little bloke deep inside of me, with his shirt covered in pie and lager vomit, and he's slurring exactly the same words, @Rodders -- maybe not with the same let-it-all-hang-out panache, but he's there -- he really is. So hat's off to your expressiveness.
  2. "That's not a captain. That's ..." Entertainment?
  3. It's tough. A cringe game like today's seems to leave a lot of supporters on VT at the end of their tethers. I try to remember it's a process after a drubbing like this. This is the worst bit -- the bedwet and "season's over" stage. Most of us will recover that old Villa resilience in a day or two, I suspect. You watch. I think we will learn from today, I really do. . It felt like a match that was sort of overthought tactically, tbh. Unai definitely gets it wrong sometimes.
  4. I feel like it’s more that we undressed ourselves. (And please no Kenneths.)
  5. Absolute textbook definition of bad day at the office. Some bitter lessons today, but lots to be hopeful about this season and need to stay behind our players. Being disappointed is natural. But we need perspective. I can’t be bothered with indulging in Villa misery. Up the Villa.
  6. This is how it feels to have your dreams crumble before you, I guess. And yet, I still feel pretty damn good about this season. What’s wrong with me? Tottenham are a really strong team and we’re having a bad day at the office. I’m disappointed, but not too fussed.
  7. Weirdly defensive approach today. Can’t understand what the thinking was. I turn away for 10 minutes and suddenly we’re two down and McGinn’s got a red, but we only achieved not getting behind for the first half — baffling.
  8. Spurs -- no worries at all. Not sure what everyone is so anxious about. Wife tells me I seem a bit tense today, a bit keyed up, but inside I'm as calm as an ocean. Yeah, that's it. But seriously, I think we'll grind this one out -- I do -- but I think we'll pay a price of colossal, skull-thumping, teeth-grinding anxiety in-game that makes us wonder why we're Villa fans, and then we'll later feel ashamed for thinking that way (as we should).
  9. The "awful" comes comparatively from historical expectations and the "legend" -- that's why. It's bollocks, but their supporters and their haters and the media have totally internalized the hype. On the face of it, they've have a pretty good if dogged campaign whilst facing loads of big injuries and failed signings. If they weren't United, we would be talking about their "grinding out wins" and "character."
  10. Absolutely. It could go either way for all three at the top. And we -- ****-ing Villa! -- have to catch up with either Citeh or Liverpool and hope one of them drops some points. Yes. It has to be be said. The only clubs above us are huge. That's the incredible reality of our situation at Villa under Unai. Villa supporters and our players are going to have to get over themselves & take that in fully.
  11. Havertz is the sneakiest player in the PL.
  12. Brentford’s defense is gutted at the moment. It’s gonna be a long night.
  13. Saka is an incredible player, but he is often predictable, you have to say. Makes the same move repeatedly. Feint right, step left — take one touch with the left foot and shoot with the left foot. I don’t think Havertz is as skilled, but he is very tricky and unpredictable.
  14. No pun intended, but Brentford are just so seriously outgunned here. Brentford already looking vulnerable.
  15. You don’t have to be particularly shambolic either. To get sixth, you have to be sixth.
  16. Still, they're in 6th, and they've still proven very dangerous this year -- at times. Until the dragon is dead, and its head buried in the Irish Sea, I won't relax. They're ruined all right. I think their combined salaries at one point was around £50m a year.
  17. Pochettino is an incredibly exciting manager. He's perfect for Chelsea right now, and they're idiots if they sack him. They don't deserve him, actually. But as great as Poch is for that club's ludicrously expensive, youthful squad, he's overrated. I think he's the most overrated in the PL, on balance, but that by no means makes him a poor manager -- just one who has been absurdly hyped. No one at Chelsea even understands what he's good at. Here's what he's good at: Young players and building community. But will Chelsea give him a real chance? Probably not. Their loss ... The question wasn't bad manager. It was "most overrated." Given Chelsea's situation (after all, even the much-battered and formerly hyped ETH seems to do more with less), and Poch's recent pedigree, there's just no other contender for this poll winner who achieves the same levels of media puffery matched with mediocre PL performances.
  18. Ironic that rumour mill has Jaden Philogene attracting the interest of ... Ajax ... and apparently worried we'll buy him back! He's my favourite recent player we had to sell. I was so impressed by him. But I imagine we can't really afford to bring him back.
  19. Sorry, I'm not too familiar with discussing or understanding the development of younger Villa players. It's not an area where I have the depth of knowledge evident in so many others on VillaTalk. Sounds like I'm taking the piss, but no -- I know my limits. All that said, I wasn't too impressed by Tim today, and I'm OK with saying that because it really isn't what we should be worried about. He seemed chaotic on the ball and out of his depth for the most part. Big deal. Could be my angle of view, too, but his positioning seemed problematic, like he was making it almost impossible to take passes from our centre backs. He never seemed to run into spaces to receive passes either. Maybe those weren't his instructions. But what do I know about tactics? Not much. He just often seemed knotted up with Ajax players and unable to shake them, and then standing around ineffectually at other times. I can only go off what I saw with my own eyes on the telly. Is that really so scandalous to voice? Please note -- I'm glad he played. Not to be too cynical, but if we don't play our younger players, we reduce their value as assets, too, and we can't afford that. I'm not even sure if the question of "Was Tim Good Or Not?" is all that relevant from this fan's perspective. Today was needs must, weren't it? Do we really want to stamp a label of GOOD or BAD on today's performance? I don't think any knows how he'll turn out yet. He's got to play. What can he learn from today? That's the question. He's got to be given a chance. And if he's given his requisite chances and doesn't progress, well, we all know what that means. We'll be better poised to move him on if he has some kind of public profile, even if it's not all highlights-reel quality.
  20. New biography out. Should be interesting, if you're into Keith Haring.
  21. I mean, it weren't that bad, was it? Appalling might have been more interesting.
  22. What about our away fans? They were great! Singing their hearts out. Gotta feel good about that.
  23. He was cracking me up. He and McGinn together -- it's like matter and antimatter meeting.
  24. Really? Maybe last week, not today. They're Dutch legends -- and very gouda.
