  1. I don’t know anything about Maupay so you may well be right but you could apply this exact logic to any signing we make ever without massive competition.
  2. I like both of them but even if I agreed with that entirely, I would say it’s just as important we make sure we have a strong core of the players who got promoted. In the same way as if we could get Mings or a CB who I might rate as a slightly better player than Mings, I think it would be important for our cohesion to choose Mings. As you say though, we have space in the squad to bring in others as well!
  3. Agreed, I would say 4-1-4-1 as I think Grealish and McGinn played just as far forward as the wingers, and all four tracked back as much as each other.
  4. I think we play 4-1-4-1 anyway so...
  5. "The Solihull-born Blues fan" says the report in it I just read... who knew
  6. Almost everyone we let go was so far from our team I think it’s irrelevant. It is only Hutton and Whelan who got more than a minute on the field for us since Christmas isn’t it?
  7. Jay Rodriguez apparently available for 5m... OK scores with his hands, yadda yadda, but has scored 15 goals in a PL season before now. I'd take him.
  8. After watching lots of these clips I think he’s very like Snodgrass. More than I realised in his Brentford/Blues days...
  9. (Those stats are from a quick Wikipedia grab so apologies if they are off by a couple of goals somewhere)
  10. He was 19. As a comparison Alan Shearer’s record around that age was 0 in 10 games, followed by 3 in 26 and 4 in 36. Managed 13 in 41 when he was Tammy’s age now for next season. So you might be right he doesn’t get much past 10 goals next season, but you’re showing a huge lack of knowledge of player development to rate his potential on how he did at 19 in his first PL season.
  11. Keep reading about how he did nothing in the playoff final but I just watched the highlights and he: -Drew the whole defence to him leaving El Ghazi one on one with a full back at the fat post for our opener. -Was in there with McGinn spooking the keeper for the second. -Flashed one shot just over the top corner. -Danced round about four players and put El Ghazi through on goal even while being chopped down but the ref pulled it back for the free kick instead of letting El Ghazi shoot. I’m not claiming it was one of his best games but his bad games are better than many Villa strikers I’ve seen in the PL.
  12. He’ll score goals. Don’t worry about that. Whether we get him or not is a completely different question.
  13. Blues fans I’m reading on twitter right now are arguing amongst themselves about Jota but most agree Gardner’s been great. It’s ok for us to think it’s time for him to move on and be disappointed it didn’t work out for him here without needing to insist he’s no good. The world doesn’t always need to work in these absolutes. I don’t think he’ll end up in the Premier League any time soon but he’s clearly a decent Championship midfielder. Thankfully we don’t need decent Championship midfielders!
  14. It might be partly in the head but 100% being a bit beefed up will help.
  15. Abraham was 20 years old when he scored a few PL goals. Most players don’t get off the bench at that age.
  16. In Jack’s interview you can see he’s very keen for us to sign Tammy, Mings and El Ghazi permanently - I would back all three of those.
  17. I would happily snap up some of the loan talent we have seen floating around other top Championship clubs for a couple of those spots. Mind you most people will dismiss it due to age but I’ve also been thinking that Babel did enough with Fulham that I’d be curious to see him on the opposite wing to El Ghazi... so I guess I’m saying my strategy is all over the place haha. Nice to not be worrying about a firesale though!
  18. If we go up tomorrow I don't see him having much of a future with us. If we don't, as you say, he's played well for a decent Championship team (*washes mouth out with soap*) so I definitely think he has a future at this level, whether with us or elsewhere, and I would say good luck to him (other than if it's Blues). He has always done his best and had a miserable time with injuries - I think as fans we tend not to be forgiving of players who don't live up to the hype, but it's not his fault we thought he was the Messiah and he just turned out to be John the Baptist for Jack Grealish...
  19. Wonder how our option to buy works if they come in... would they have to buy from us if we activate it? Edit: not that I think it’s anything other than website gossip.
  20. Thats’s how scared teams are of Grealish. If you have four men on him you will leave huge gaps.
  21. I’m just not sure I understand your point. With most of our players, I don’t think free kicks would result in goals. When he takes them they do. How is that not a major asset? I’d get your point if we were talking penalties, but it’s weird to me that you would devalue a vital goal from a free kick. I think I must be missing your point so apologies.
  22. I don’t know the answer to this but it’s not a bad thing to have someone who can score from the decent amount of free kicks we win, is it?
  23. My pet peeve is when a manager makes a substitution that works and people say “aha! So you were wrong to start Player X.” I bet Alex Ferguson doesn’t worry too much that he picked the “wrong strikers” for the Champions League final in 1999 because it was his subs who scored. I can see a strong argument for starting Hourihane and a strong argument for starting Whelan. Good. That’s how it should be.
