  1. I thought we were the better side in both games, but we need to learn how to manage games and how to make it count - that's certainly a lesson we can take from the opposition - they're brutally efficient. Olympiacos were smart, they were organised, they were calm, they defended absolutely brilliantly and they took their chances, they deserve to go through to the final and I hope they win it. We're out for the count, the players are knackered, but I don't think you can fault the effort, I thought we played well in the first half and though our heads dropped in the second half, this will still do them a lot of good next season and in the long run - they'll have learned an awful lot from this run and it'll stand them in good stead for the future. Tonight we were out-thought and lacked the creativity to break them down, individually, we were mostly okay, I thought Doug did well in the middle of the park, McGinn too, but we really needed another midfielder - when we were on top, too often the ball bounced off Diaby - Bailey looks like he's playing in a lot of pain and Cash lacks a little composure in forward areas - but the effort was there, I don't think anyone can complain of lack of effort or heart - we just came up against a brick wall of very smart footballers and we ran out of ideas. We'll strengthen and we'll come again, I have no doubt about that. It's a shame to lose this tie, but it's been good to be back in Europe and we've done plenty we'll remember.
  2. It's been a brilliant run, we'll be better for the experience and perhaps when we come up against an organised, sit-and-hit team like these next season we'll have picked up enough game intelligence to give us a different outcome.
  3. Play all the kids against Liverpool - and if we do still need anything against Palace then we'll be fresh for it.
  4. You've got to admire how well Olympiacos defend - they're organised, determined and they've given absolutely everything in keeping us out.
  5. We've had 32 efforts on goal over the two ties and been caught on the break four or five times - we've dominated but we lack that little bit of nous that turns domination into wins.
  6. Probably the least one sided 6-2 I've ever seen - over the two legs we probably should have won this. That said we were probably a little lucky to get past Lille. Olympiacos aren't the best side we've faced, but you've got to hand it them, they just outsmarted us.
  7. I wouldn't make any changes at half time in terms of personnel - I know it sounds odd, but we've actually played very well, it's a good performance we just need to find a way to finish.
  8. I've pretty much written off the last two league games, it''d be nice if we got something out of one of them, but I'm still hopeful our league season is over before we play again - if Burnley get a draw we can play the kids and if not, I think you'd have to expect City to do the business in the week.
  9. I think all the blame for that is on the right side of our defence, Konsa doesn't do enough to either stop the first man or track the second and Cash doesn't go with the runner - it's bit of a mess of communication. There's nothing Torres can do by the time the cut back comes past him. That's not the thing though, we've been so dominant - the better side for 95% of this tie - but we just don't win the key moments.
  10. Diaby is the only one I think that can offer a bit more, his touch was all over the place at times. We need to stay patient and hope one goal comes - one will lead to more.
  11. So far in this tie: Aston Villa 28 attempts on goal - 2 goals Olympiacos 11 attemps on goal - 5 goals. They've just been ridiculously efficient. We were really good in that half, completely dominated it, completely controlled it and still came out losing it 1-0. I'm not sure what else we can do.
  12. Some of the offices and spaces for storage and so on will be moving this summer to make way for hospitality.
  13. Attacking left back from the U21s - just a nipper, but capable,
  14. Cash will play in midfield I reckon
  15. Picks itself - the only decision was Cash over Ireogbunam in midfield.
  16. It's interesting, they're not taking much of the ticket office - instead they're building storage on the back and using all of the existing storage space to expand the shop floor - a much bigger space - now to see what they can do with it. What I would say is that by building onto this office building, it seems to suggest that they might be extending its lifespan.
  17. Really good news in the interview to see that the return to an in-house model for our retailing is confirmed. A Villa shop operated by Aston Villa again instead of Fanatics - Villa products on sale in sports shops around the world rather than restricted to Fanatics partners and the Fanatics website. The chance re-establish the link between being a Villa fan and the store - perhaps getting some use out of those Pride Reward Points by being able to link them to products we sell, or even, dare we dream, the return of the season ticket holder discount. A whole world of possibility has reopened!
  18. There used to be and Hamas did win a legitimate democratic election - but it's probably fair to say that the Hamas we see today isn't the Hamas that campaigned for votes then and part of that change was them deciding that there shouldn't be any more democratic elections and doing away with them.
  19. I think there's something in that - it's not the inspiring message you get from a nighttime render of a massive new facility - and maybe that's why it's a message that's been whispered out, snuck through and couched in airy-fairy language - but it is still change that will make a big difference, especially in the hospitality areas. The club have consistently, on every possible channel, through every possible means available to them, since the day that Nassif and Wes arrived, said that we won't be moving from Villa Park - I'm always amazed that each time they repeat it people seem surprised. If in future we have new stands or a new stadium, I think it'll be between the railway and the park, and personally, I like that very much. I don't necessarily think 5 (or even 10) years is a massively long period of time for the sort of project people are envisaging - Spurs planned theirs in 2007, announced it in 2008 and it opened in 2019. Perhaps that's the kind off timeline we're thinking about - perhaps they're just people the owners trust and work with who coincidentally have backgrounds in that kind of project, I have no idea - but more smart people with valuable links and loads of money can't be a bad thing.
  20. 5% seems fairly reasonable - the devil will as ever be in the detail and we'll wait to see wha that means for U18 prices, over 65's and other concessions, and to particular areas of the stadium, but the positive is that the club have been suggesting for a while that they'll try to use the massive revenues they can get from better sponsorship and having more hospitality to try to control any rises in the GA prices - a message that Mr Heck has re-iterated today and one that I think is reflected in a 5% increase, which in footballing terms (rather than the regular economy) seems pretty reasonable.
  21. I think that's probably the most joined up interview that Mr Heck has conducted since he arrived here - he's a little bit clearer on what he's telling us, even if that's just through repetition in slightly different words, and there's quite a bit in there that I think is really quite positive. Who would have guessed that the route to clarity was through the unique journalistic talent that is Gabriel Agbonlahor?
  22. That's definitely incorrect - we're not much over 25,000 - I've got the exact figure somewhere but frustratingly can't find it.
