  1. I like a decent pint of Guinness, but will also drink bitter and on a nice sunny day/after football/at home drink lager as well. Nothing worse though than a bad pint of Guinness - lot's of barstaff don't know how to pour it. I got a real taste for that German weisbeer Erdinger a couple of years ago. Lovely stuff.
  2. Great poll Rob. I am a huge Neil Young fan. I love the fact that his work is pretty much timeless - with the exception of some of his eighties stuff, I think a lot of his music is hard to pin down. Not sure what my favourite album would be... Harvest is obviously a classic, but I think (despite it's harrowing nature) Tonight's the Night is amazing, and I love albums like Silver and Gold too. I am going to see him at Hop Farm in July - for me Neil Young is a lot more relevant nowadays than Dylan is.
  3. Hi General Apologies if this has been mentioned before, but has the club thought about playing youth team games - or even a woman's football team - on matchday at Villa Park? Would this be viable in terms of the pitch and/or revenue?
  4. This song gets my vote too. This doesn't get my vote as it is a Man United song. They sing it about Giggs. We need our own boys.
  5. Has anyone read Revolutionary Road by Richard Yates?
  6. Love it, Love it, Love it, Love it, Love it, Love it, Love it, really love it. Cheers mate!
  7. How's about: "Laursen is the son of God Hallelujah" to the tune of "Michael row the boat ashore"?
  8. Think it all got a bit too much for Ricky. I think he didn't stick to his gameplan, but all credit to Mayweather. Interesting to see where both of them go from here - Ricky should never try and fight at welterweight again.
  9. I may be reading too much into it, but I was surprised how nervous Mayweather looked. I suppose he always is a bit jumpy, but he didn't look comfortable at the weigh in at all. Just hope Hatton can get a result. Come on Ricky!!
  10. Great news General. Thank you very much - and a happy thanksgiving too.
  11. "Goodbye Agent Ridgewell. Let's make this a successful mission."
  12. Hello General On the subject of baby gifts etc, I recently bought something online from the Villa store and one thing I think could be helpful is if it gives you a gift wrap/gift note option. As it was a present for my friends newborn baby, I would have been quite happy to have it giftwrapped for a little bit extra and have the option to send a little note/card as well. Cheers Didier.
  13. Nicely written piece John. You are right in your assessment - at half time we were 3-1 up but incredibly lucky to be so. Our luck didn't hold. My overriding question: Why did we defend so deep? I can understand we want to hit teams on the counter, but we basically were playing rope a dope. Strange.
  14. is this strictly true "no other recourse"?. The law seems to suggest that smoking in the concourses would be illegal, but not so in the actual open stands - certainly in the lower tiers to my reading. As I'm not a legal bod, I wondered whether the club had been given instruction/advice on this, or whether the club had decided whatever, just to ban it, for sake of ease/concern for people's health. Basically because if it proves hard to police and costly (indoors) it mightn't be easier to either let people outside, or let them wander to the front of a stand (say at half time only) to indulge? Just curious, really I think as far as I know it is a Premier/Football League initiative - all grounds will be smoke free this season.
  15. don't we still have a terrorism law that bans people from promoting terrorism ?? I don't rememebr Bin Laden doing any party politicla broadcasts on the BBC of late But wasn't it just that you couldn't hear Gerry Adams's voice? They had to put a Gerry Adams impersonator over the top didn't they?
  16. What are people's thoughts on Giuly at Barcelona? Apparently he is being let go... I've always liked him as a player....
  17. Sneijder is a great little player. He suffered a serious injury a couple of seasons ago (knee I think) that set him back a little, but has been talked about as a great Ajax talent for a number of years now. Comparing him to Xavi is about right, he is a darting, lively little player who favours his left foot but can also hit it with his right (scored against Alkmaar at the weekend with a lovely shot from the edge of the box using his right peg). He definitely has a bit of 'attitude' too I reckon.. looks a bit like Craig Bellamy actually...
  18. 32. The hair is greying, the knees are crumbling, but I have still got something to give to the game.
  19. Woodgate being presented as a Boro player today so that ends that one.
  20. At one point, I thought Kieran Richardson might be a good signing for Villa, but he has looked dreadful of late
  21. That was a great chippy wasn't it?
  22. Wouldn't go for Green. Foster looks great, but every time I've seen Green he has not convinced me. Not great on crosses and makes mistakes a la the last minute winner against Spurs. Can't see Man Utd let Foster go though. Think he may be pushing for first team at Old Trafford within a couple of years.
  23. I don't really care that much, but I think it is 'healthy' to have a bit of local rivalry to look forward to - I can't quite believe that our nearest Premiership rival is Sheffield United. On balance I just think it is better to have a derby match or two to look forward to and have a bit of banter about.
  24. Apparently the reason that we put milk in our tea is that before we got china from china, our clay cups would just crack if you put boiling water in them.
