  1. Given our manager recruitment track record it wouldnt surprise me if they went out and got Lenny bloody Henry. "I hear he is a local lad, I think he used to play for Albion?" "No idea but look at the fans reaction! They love the idea of Henry!" "Aye lets get him, this time for sure we know we have got it right!"
  2. I have complete faith Aston Villa will find new ways to fail this season. More seriously yeah its going to take something special, an unproven manager doesnt inspire much confidence. The one thing the club CAN improve which is entirely within its control is having us play some entertaining and nice to look at football, that costs nothing but effort and a solid coaching staff. Smaller clubs than us play decent football, it is the minimum we as fans should expect going forward.
  3. I have no problem with Tim Sherwood. Not saying I want him back, I dont. But he gave us a few happy days there and well, I always got the sense he just liked us, the fans. Shrug. Never met the bloke but thats how he came across to me.
  4. Quite right. I just hope he doesnt get bored managing us and make an ill advised invasion of Russia halfway through the season. Dont do it Theirry! You have already got the treaty of Schonbrunn, thats good enough man! Consolidate your power then get back to focusing on Aston Villa's promotion push.
  5. I am coming in late today so apologies can I ask what this comment was and who from? edit nm found it on the previous page. Moxely. Cheers. Anyway Henry is not my first choice for sure but if its him I would be happy to get behind him.
  6. A steady pair of hands, he can always be relied on to bring us in his usual zero points.
  7. Well said. Quoted on the very slim chance someone from the club reads message boards and might mistakenly think any of these old boys would be welcomed by fans or effective at the club. Big Sam is the best of that bad bunch but any of them would surely drive away even more fans. Really we have waited years and endured crap for a decade or more now, a manager who sets us up to play attractive football is not that big an ask.
  8. A moment of drunken depression on my part, dont take me seriously I like Gus Poyet but I will say the memory of Tim Sherwood giving him a tactical masterclass at SOL is tough to forget. I know its Sunderland, the cursed club, but still... it was not pretty.
  9. Oh well, it was a fun couple of hours dreaming we might get in a good manager
  10. The way the announcement said twice the search for a new manager has begun leads me to believe this was already underway before Bruce got let go. So it could be almost done already. But my guess is announced by the Swansea game, first match in charge Narrwich.
  11. Does the FFP scam even apply to managers compensation? Either way I am utterly unconcerned about it. Our new owners seem determined to ignore it or find a way around it through loopholes like all successful clubs these days. Its a joke regulation which is rightly treated with contempt by clubs that have ambition. We should do the same.
  12. Paulo Fonseca is a manager who has his team playing in a way that people analyse his tactics with admiration, and without air quotes around the word tactics. This is in contrast to our recent manager(s). So yeah he would be a step up for me.
  13. He maybe good with the kids (I have no idea) but he is a terrible first team manager, interim or not. Happily I expect him to manage us for 2 or three games max and to his credit that is also his expectation so I am right behind him and hope he does well.
  14. I like John Terry (never thought I would say that but he won me over) but this is no club for a newcomer to management.
  15. Its gonna be different.. THIS time they swear.
  16. According to my sources from the kitchen Mick Mack, AKA the poor mans Steve Bruce, can can go enjoy his retirement.
  17. I am British/Irish so I get to be a bigot against my own people None of us please*. Management just lags in development with homegrown managers. So someone good and foreign. A Bielsa or a Rafa style appointment please. Defintely no up and comers or managers who "know the english league". We have fallen for that before. A manager who plays modern, dynamic and entertaining football. We have the players for it. *I might make an exception for Rodgers.
  18. Thanks for everything Steve Bruce. Good luck in the future. Definitely the right move for everyone concerned.
  19. Well we will just have to settle for a Bielsa or Nuno Santo then.
  20. They were. As good as down and amid rumours of the owner pulling funding and all sorts if I recall? Anyway, they kept him in the Championship. If they could get in and keep Rafa under those terms, well it doesnt seem a stretch to think a freshly financially backed bigger club like Aston Villa should be an attractive prospect for top managers. Bielsa is obviously an even more striking example.
  21. Well let me add some hope. Newcastle and Leeds were in far worse shape than us when they attracted Rafa & Bielsa. So they are out there. Hopefully our new owners are willing to get us a manager which matches the size of our club rather than another grab from the lucky dip "which British/Irish manager is available" bag they have used for years.
