  1. No way. I thought it was an excellent post tbh.
  2. No, that’s not my style mate. I’d prefer to argue with you for a bit longer first
  3. He got the best out of him, no doubt, and that’s absolutely fine. My worry is his record without him. He’ll sink or swim in the first 3 months of this season. I want him to succeed, badly.
  4. Whoooaaaa. That kind of sane analysis gets you in all kinds of bother on here. We’re not allowed to reference the Watford game as it was the first game of the season and we had a couple of injuries. Everything is fine and we’ll start our push for Europe tomorrow..
  5. Proved us all wrong?! I’m firmly in the ‘Smith in’ camp! What do you mean?
  6. The first three paragraphs were massively influenced by Jack Grealish. Smiths record without him is poor. It’ll be interesting to see how he does this season. I think he’ll struggle.
  7. Cliche answer. Im not saying it’s football manager, nor am I questioning the fact that we probably have some smart people working at the club. We need a midfielder or two, and we’re doing nothing about it.
  8. For some, perhaps. I’m more focused and excited on us signing players we need rather than stockpiling and chasing any old player. I’ll feel a sense of relief more than anything when we finally sign a decent central midfielder!
  9. Would anyone take Lookman? I reckon we could get him for circa 15m and he’d be a good option off the left. Right now, two central midfielders are the absolute priority, but if an opportunity came up to get Lookman, I think a 3 of Lookman, Buendia and Bailey behind Watkins/Ings would be superb.
  10. There are dozens of midfielders across Europe that would improve us. This idea that there is only a handful that we can possibly sign is nonsense.
  11. I’m not. He’s on 30k a week and his loan spell at Swansea wasn’t really a success. I can’t see anyone taking him tbh, not unless we massively subsidise the wages.
  12. The thing is, It's not like this is something we've just found out. El Ghazi has had less than 10 good games in a Villa shirt. He was mostly poor in the Championship ffs. And that's fine, as long as you don't play him. You've got a kid in JPB who has had a good pre-season, why not give him a game? He could actually play poorly and still out perform El Ghazi. That's how bad El Ghazi is.
  13. I'd bite your hand off at 11th if offered now. So would Dean I imagine. Just not sure if that's enough for him to keep his job.
  14. Euro's as well. Just shows the amount of value in that league. Surely there are a couple of midfielders we could pick up that would improve us and who aren't out injured for 9 months of the year?
  15. That's fast becoming your stock answer tbh, Jonah. 'Look where we've come from' etc. Almost as if we don't deserve to progress and we shouldn't expect to want to. Yes we've broken our club record but we've also lost the best player the club has ever had for £100m. Right now, I don't think we'll have a great season. Sorry if I'm being entitled.
  16. There’s nothing I would love more than for him to start tomorrow, play well and you lot quote me on how poor of a signing I thought he was. Come on Morgan. Make me look stupid.
  17. By which time we may need to replace Watkins and Bailey because we haven't progressed enough. This idea that we can only buy a certain amount of players each summer is daft tbh. Good footballers will improve us and we have the money to get them so what are we waiting for?
  18. If all teams didn't have to play with a midfield, we'd finish in the top 4. This is a helluva side.. ---------------------Watkins-------------------- Buendia--------------------------------Bailey Targett-----Mings-----Konsa-----Cash -------------------Martinez--------------------- Shame.
  19. Yes. He’d improve us. Certainly in the short term.
  20. You’re probably right. I don’t think Smith is bluffing. The idea clubs won’t think we’re desperate or have any cash because Smith says so in a press conference is just daft. Everybody knew we were minted before Grealish got sold for £100m. I wonder what they’re thinking now.. I think we are done in this window. So you can forget Europe or a top half finish.
  21. No, I agree. Key word being ‘relatively’. In relation to our previous transfer window, I think it has been poor. I don’t have any idea how the club thinks it will progress with our current crop of midfielders.
  22. Agreed. We have a weird way of judging players. Like when Nakamba played well in preseason against Walsall and Stoke and people are scratching their head when he plays poorly again in the PL. No combination of our current crop of central midfielders allows us to play a 4-4-2 / 4-2-3-1. We almost exclusively have to play a 4-3-3 to accommodate our powderpuff midfield. It’s so frustrating because it’s so, so obvious we need one or two more midfielders in this window.
