  1. People are assuming here that Jack regards himself as English. It strikes me that he is very proud of his Irish background and views Ireland as the country he would love to represent. Just because you're born in a stable doesn't make you a horse - I'd say it's the dream of every player to pull on the shirt of their country and the famous green shirt is obviously the shirt for Jack. Good luck to the lad for going with his heart and family.
  2. "The Report" - It's a tongue-in-cheek title and I doubt the guy sees himself as self-important. I'm grateful to H.H. for writing this because the people running the club do need reminding that we all expect the very best for Villa. I want to see Paul Lambert getting some serious financial backing for Year Three of his "project" - if he doesn't then I will feel RL and PF have been taking us (and our patience) for a ride these past two years.
  3. Lambert needs another yet. Let's wait until season's end to assess such things as players' abilities.
  4. This is the way undue pressure can be put on a team. I would like to think any sane manager would never approach a set of fixtures with this type of outlook: it's simple, we tackle each and every match wanting to win - it doesn't matter where or how we get our target amount of points.
  5. Lack backbone? What by not cheering on a billionaire while the club you support struggles for the 4th consecutive year? There's plenty of points left to play for and we can end this season in are far healthier league position than last. If the players gave up now I'd say they lacked backbone...I'd apply the same criticism to anyone connected with the club who's prepared to throw in the towel when there's thirty odd points left to play for.
  6. Yeah but be fair. There's no way we could have done things different. We had to have club record breaking lows. That's obvious. And people say they haven't lowered their expectations. Hilarious. I think our best long term chance of success in the current climate of football is to steadily rebuild our club on field and off. I want trophies, league titles, cups, you name it and I'm backing the way we are doing it under Lambert. There is absolutely no lowering of expectations, just an understanding that the journey will be (at times) frustrating, bumpy and rocky. Stop telling me I've lowered my expectations for Aston Villa F.C. when the complete opposite is true.
  7. "I don't believe we needed to experience two relegation worried years, worst home form in clubs history and other record breaking lows in order to rebuild. To accept all that means you don't think it could have been done differently..." I think you underestimate the life-experience and the ability to reason of others.
  8. Samir throws down the gauntlet to Jack and says: "Beat that!" That's a a great goal.
  9. All the Premier League pitches are the same size, I believe.
  10. I agree tbh seems ages ago when he was mooted as the next Stevie g now he's 22 times not on his side to make a standout role going the same way all our potentials go moores, byfield etc He's 21 and has plenty of time on his side.
  11. Good luck young Gary - right behind you, kid.
  12. Scotland , Wales and Northern Ireland = England according to the folks who made this. Their geography is as poor as their scouting.
  13. The only kids who make an impact at Arsenal are kids they somehow nab from other clubs - Fabregas being the most obvious example. They haven't produced a genuinely top class youngster of their own in donkeys' years. Ashley Cole is the only one I can think of and he ditched them at the first opportunity. Arsenal's youngsters receive a lot of hype simply because they are based in London, close to all the media outlets and P.R. agencies - I wouldn't let such things cloud your judgement old son. A final thought: if the likes of Gibbs, Oxlade-Chamberlain etc. had been blooded for Arsenal in the midst of relegation battles in the manner our young lads were, the Gunners would now be playing in the Championship.
  14. I'm of a generation that can never accept the likes of Arsenal being a bigger club than Aston Villa. Fair play to them for being well run, cashing in on the London economy/Champs League and totally re-inventing themselves these past fifteen-twenty years BUT bigger than Villa? Never!! We'll be back.
  15. No he isn't. His overall result stat is still very poor and I'd want to see a lot more consistency from him tactically and from the team before I'd go anywhere near making a statement like that. Yes he is. He gutted an expensive and wasteful team, built a new one at a fraction of the cost and is improving us. He is doing an exceptional job. Regarding overall results, we're no man city and results wise we're in the ballpark of what you'd expect for a young team. You know all this though. Like you say he knows all this but just ignores it. Like it or not we're punching above our weight in terms of what we've spent and wages we pay. The job Lambert has been asked to do is pretty unique in the top flight. He has been asked to oversee the dismantling of the remains of a top six squad, whilst implementing a total change in the club philosophy re. wages and squad building. Whilst doing all of this he has had to also bring a sense of stability to a club that was teetering on the brink of implosion and relegation. He has done an incredible job so far, demonstrating very shrewd judgement and brave leadership along the way. Bit by bit we are getting there. I think the dream is that we are fighting for top six/four and trophies with a squad full of Bodymoor Heath players supplemented by astute signings. We're twelve to eighteen months away from that, in my opinion, and we can get there with Lambert.
  16. It's a meaningless and utterly pointless debate.
  17. He's a bit off form - a sustained run in the team would see him back to his best.
  18. It's the most embarrassing thread title since the "relegation" one (put up after we'd played two games) of last season.
  19. The only top class player Liverpool have is Suarez.
  20. Cowans. Check out Villa 6 Everton 2 on Youtube and watch Sid run the show - and this was him in his thirties. Young Sid was even better!
  21. I've no problem with this, it's a signing in the Simon Dawkins mould. I can see him weighing in with a couple of goals, too.
