  1. To be clear - I'd quite like him from the highlights that I've seen, especially for the cost touted, but it's not all rosy from what I've read. Lyon fans (who typically don't just watch the highlights) deem him average. Apparently his hold-up play isn't great, he doesn't work the defenders, he's lazy and almost never seems to win 50/50 balls. In that sense, he's different to Ollie, which is what Emery's after, but according to them he also missed a load of big chances last year as well and I think 5 of his goals were penalties. He looks to be a bit of a stat padder as well, mainly scoring against weaker teams (with the odd exception like against Man City). As I say, I think he'd be a great signing for the £3m speculated and if we can keep wages below six figures p/w, especially if Emery wants him. I fully trust Emery over the Lyon fans, but I'd see him being brought in as an additional option, something different to Ollie, rather than as the complete package.
  2. Tier 1 source Sportdog linking us, Arsenal and Man City to international superstar Giannis Konstantelias.
  3. On Twitter, some bloke's sister-in-law says that Danjuma will be a Villa player by Monday. @messi11 tells me she's tier 1. Welcome Danjuma!
  4. Merino was discussed on here yesterday and he's reportedly rejected us, despite us being willing to match his release clause. At least that's according to this: The midfielder we'll be signing is surely Guendouzi though, right? That seems fairly clear to me after reading this thread and Twitter. What I'm not as sure of is who we'll be targeting upfront. I'm hoping it's someone a bit more ambitious than the likes of Danjuma though.
  5. Whether you choose to believe this account or not (I do), I thought we might be after Gakpo under Emery. Didn't think we had any chance of signing Fernandez though, especially considering he only moved to Benfica six months ago.
  6. I've seen a few people on Twitter and here say that today isn't on Gerrard, but I'm afraid it is. If he's coaching them correctly, we'd be scoring at least one of those chances today. Regardless, this is a results business and not only have the performances been dire for a while, the results also have. 9 points from 10 isn't acceptable for a team that was aiming for at least a top half finish this season - that's relegation form following one of the easier runs of games you'll see in this league. If results haven't improved over a period of 10 games, they won't improve over the rest of the season. Despite all of that, I don't see him leaving in the next few days. I think it's a combination of a couple of things, the main one being Purslow, who I think will be reacting emotionally rather than rationally to this. A mate (/hero?) of his, who he personally gambled on after seeing him win the league with Rangers, despite Beale being the real mastermind. Purslow will still feel like this has to work and he'll still have credit in the bank after the last few years, but he can only hold the owners off for so long. The other reason is that I can imagine a lot of top managers waiting until the World Cup break to make a decision on their future, as it'll afford them time that you wouldn't normally get mid-season to prepare accordingly. I really hope I'm wrong and that he's sacked in the first 24 hours, but I don't think he'll be shown the door just yet.
  7. I'm someone that wants Gerrard out but doesn't wish anything but Villa to win when we play. I want Gerrard out because of his performance to date and I don't see that turning around. I also want Aston Villa to keep winning and if miraculously that does happen with Gerrard still at the helm, then I'm all for it - I just want the best for Villa. You can criticise the manager while still wanting to win every game, but performances and results will drive Gerrard out at some point without the fans wishing the worst for the team in each upcoming match.
  8. Aha! Without changing the subject too much, I think guys is more of a gender neutral term now. Loads of girls I know call others guys now, but I know it's a grey area. Anyway, back on topic, Otavio is just what we need!
  9. Altruism? She often mentions that she doesn't want and has declined the chance to have a blue tick/twitter verification, so possibly that. There are some good guys out there...
  10. Grimes is pretty spot on, usually. She's not a journalist, but works in the industry (on the legal side I think). She tends to call it before the main outlets as she's ITK but because of that things can change between say an enquiry and a transfer actually happening. She strikes me as pretty legit rather than attention seeking.
  11. Grimes is in the industry supposedly (I think working on the legal side of things) and she seems to get a lot spot on. It would make sense as well that Romagnoli has rejected us and the Geordies, as apparently he's a Lazio fan and Newcastle seem to be close to Botman.
  12. I posted this earlier, but because I mentioned that Sport Witness had referenced the Chilean newspaper which reported it a lot of people just seemed to laugh it off. For what it's worth, I don't think it'll be the smartest move, especially when the article states that we'll match his Inter wages.
  13. You say that, but I've just looked on La Tercera's website and they're saying exactly what Sport Witness are saying that they've said. So if anything, you'd need to question the integrity of La Tercera (I don't know how reputable they are) but criticising Sport Witness for sharing what other publications are saying is like criticising villareport for doing the same and I know that nobody would criticise villareport...
  14. According to Sport Witness, Chilean newspaper La Tercera has said that we've offered a contract to Alexis Sanchez. They're saying that we've offered to match what he's getting at Inter and that we're in competition with Marseille, Barcelona, Athletico Madrid and Arsenal for his signature. I've not really watched him for years, but his fbref stats look good and last season in Serie A he got five goals and two assists in under 900 mins, which isn't awful. At 33 though, he might struggle with a return to the Premier League.
  15. If we're discussing the impact that Ings has made... That stat's probably more of a reflection of our average goals return for the season but, for what it's worth, I think we need to add a quality striker to Watkins, Ings and Archer instead of replacing anyone. If we can get a good price for Davis and work out a financially viable deal for a better player than what we have (or someone around the same level with higher potential), then I think we'll do just that. I don't know who that person would be, but I really can't see us selling a top player when we play two up front and need strong competition for places to push us to the next level.
  16. People saying that signing older players is a risk and divergence from the plan - I think it's the complete opposite. It's a risk to not have a balance of experience in our squad (which prior to Digne and Coutinho was a very young squad anyway). It's a risk to not move now, when we've got the likes of Newcastle aiming for the top four in the next few years, along with the likes of Man Utd and Arsenal looking to return there. And wasn't it always the plan to get to this year back in the Prem and up our spending, because we can afford to (also because we made £100m off a player last year)? As many have said, Gerrard's profile allows us to do that and appeal to players higher up the food chain. I know some are sceptical about the likes of Purslow, but I believe the he and others have done more than enough already to suggest they know a bit about what they're doing.
  17. I wouldn't trust the opinion of any of these Brighton fans. They think Bissouma's a defensive midfielder, when he's clearly not! Or at least that's what I read earlier on in this thread...
  18. It really feels as though his agent's using talks with us and Man Utd to get an improved offer from Atleti. Or at least that's the impression I'm getting from @es_grimes on Twitter, who seems to have a lot of info on a lot of transfers (and seems fairly genuine).
  19. With the talk of Suarez possibly signing and joining back up with his former teammate, I thought I'd take a look at who else is still playing that would have been on Liverpool's books while Gerrard was there. Not saying that I'd take all of these at Villa, but I wouldn't be surprised if one or two joined in the summer. Goalkeepers Peter Gulacsi (31) - RB Leipzig Defenders Alberto Moreno (29) - Villareal Sebastian Coates (31) - Sporting CP Conor Coady (29) - Wolves Midfielders Jordan Henderson (31) - Liverpool Luis Alberto (29) - Lazio Lucas Leiva (35) - Lazio Victor Moses (31) - Spartak Moscow Jonjo Shelvey (30) - Newcastle Ryan Babel (35) - Galatasaray Attackers Raheem Sterling (27) - Man. City Suso (28) - Sevilla Iago Aspas (34) - Celta Vigo Some of the ages/clubs might be wrong, but there's a lot of experience in that list. We probably couldn't attract all of them, but Gerrard would've had a big impact on many Liverpool players during his time there, so I'm sure he'll have a fair bit of pull. I wouldn't mind a couple of them along with a few younger players, if the deals were right financially, but there's always a risk that we repeat the mistakes of summer 2015, as others have mentioned. Does anyone think that we should/might try to bring any of these in?
  20. Seeing as we're reportedly trying to sign his fellow countryman (Suarez) in the summer, we need a CB and SG is utilising his connections from his playing days, does anyone see us going for his former teammate Sebastian Coates? Not seen him play in a long time but, from what I've read, he's had a decent few years at Sporting. At 31 he's getting on in football years (or at least according to some), but if we want experienced competition for Konsa I wouldn't be too surprised if we looked at him.
  21. Not sure how reliable this guy is, but seems to have got a few things right recently. Despite his age, I do like Ings if we can get him for a reasonable price.
  22. When asked if he was aware of Olise's £8 million release clause, Reading's manager said not at all. Now whether that means there is one or not, I'm not so sure, but many Reading fans seem to think it would have been met by now if it was so low. They're pushing for promotion for the first time in years and apparently have billion Chinese owners (sound familiar?), who my Reading-supporting mate says are really stubborn and wouldn't accept anything but a really high offer if there's no release clause (probably around £25-30 million). I'd love to get him in and to be wrong about how much he'll cost, but he might not be as cheap as everyone thinks.
