Richard
Imagine if AV06 throw in "you can stay on the board Doug if you like" Which I dont think they can do as part of the offer

jamesbuchanan
On the bright side, at least we know they have to make a move in the next 10 days - no more of this 'something should happen in the next 48 hours' business!
ucdawg12
I have a question about this bid being recommended, I have seen some posters claim that the bid will only be recommended if its better than Lerner's but what do you mean when you say that? This is what I am afraid of, I am afraid that AV06's bid will be seen as better by the board because its 8 million more than Lerner's, and I think only if Lerner would match that would it come down to Rothschild looking at the background of the two bids and then deciding which is better for the club's future since they would both be seen as equal as in which is better for the shareholders. What is the priority at deciding which is the better bid, are the shareholders getting top priority, or is the club's future getting top priority. Bottom line, I am afraid that AV06's plans for the future are not as good as Lerner's but that will not matter because AV06's bid is better by 8 mil. SoccerHQ
Can I just say that we are all forgetting one man in this. Herbert Douglarse Ellis. He made a statement yesterday and will not want to back down on that or make himself look like a bigger eejit than he is. He will not want to look like he is not in control of this situation. Lerner is his prefered option, of that I am sure. He will not want to change tack now. I firmly believe that the 10 days will coincide with new owners being unveiled at the Reading game next week This brilliant brilliant night is getting even better! Do they count weekends though when you can bid?

SoccerHQ
Do they count weekends though when you can bid? No. So it won't work out like that... Thought so so close of play on Friday 25th August then. Lerner can still be at VP though as Niall Quinn was in the directors box at Sunderland before he'd taken over. adamhamer
Do they count weekends though when you can bid? No. So it won't work out like that... Are you sure? I always believed it was calander days. I.E. as is the 21 day acceptance period. Has always been where I work.
Gringo
Do they count weekends though when you can bid? No. So it won't work out like that... Hmm. Down to the specific terms of the offer and acceptance. For normal takeover stuff, ie deadlines for acceptance, revised offers etc; then weekends do count. So I guess that they would in this scenario as well. So 9 days remaining not 13.

eholm
just noticed posted by 'Damian' on Aston Villa Blog website....is he legit?? ""Have the AV06 consortium spoken to Mr O'Neill? I'll ask next time I speak to Mr Padfield but it's important for me, as a supporter, to believe that whoever gains control is doing it for football reasons and everything we know about both parties right now is pure speculation; how do we know who is best for Aston Villa? I've spoken to Mr Padfield today and he can confirm that AV06 are 'keen to outbid Mr Lerner' and he's pretty sure that Mr Lerner 'hasn't budgeted for any transfers'. If that's the case I wouldn't be surprised as by the time he would gain control of the club the transfer window will be closed. That's not a negative remark against Mr Padfield as he also confirmed they wouldn't be able to spend until January, but that also leaves plenty of time for Mr Lerner to put together a transfer budget for Mr O'Neill in January. Mr Padfield has spoken to a couple of Aston Villa fans, who will remain nameless as I don't think they've told anyone of their conversation, but I will say one thing and that is he was confident of his position and his wish to take Aston Villa forward. He also confirmed that the fans would have a voice if he gained control and he knew we've never had that under Mr Ellis; so he's saying the right things and from what I understood things could happen very soon. The question is, would AV06 be better for Aston Villa than Mr Lerner and the answer, I'm afraid to say is, none of us will ever know because only one of them will gain control and that will come down to who wants it the most. Also, with a bit of luck that should be the best outcome for Aston Villa, or atleast we all hope it will be! Last Updated ( Tuesday, 15 August 2006 )"" ...anyone know of him?? AV06 is playing this out in the press.Trying to gain support. If his plans are so good put in a bid. Not use the media to get support to the detriment of other bids. My guess is he is trying to make shareholders stall, as he cannot raise the bid before the 10 days is up.
