Xela
Hi everyone Booked a last minute break in Oslo next weekend. Tips? Looking for the highlights. Only really going to have the Saturday to sight see. Also, best pubs, bars and eateries? Any recommendations gratefully received. Haven't booked the hotel yet either so any advice on the best area to stay also appreciated Thanks
tonyh29
Can't remember where I stayed but it was a nice boutique type hotel complete with I-Mac in the rooms and quite reasonable and near the centre when you arrive take the airport express into Oslo it's fairly straight forward and brings you right to the centre in terms of highlights ... Start at the royal palace and then take a slow walk down the "main" Street and you'll hit the parliament building ... Then head off to the right and you'll hit the harbour. Take a ferry to the island (have a look at the ski jump on your way )and go see the Viking ships , then sorta follow the road and walk 10 15 mins and you hit the rather excellent Kon Tiki exhibition ... You can catch the ferry back from just outside when you are done .... When you get back to harbour you'll see the Nobel museum which is worth a look as it usually houses a temporary exhibition ( it was Afghanistan when I was there very good )... And finally if you've timed it right you can get a bus out to the art museum and see The Scream i seem to recall I bought an Oslo pass at the harbour that covered the ferry , bus and entry to most of the museums im sure there is more but that was how I spent a day there were various bars in a pedestrian area near where I got off the airport train but I only hit a few for a couple of drinks as I had a full on day the next morning (see above) ... Yeah a beer is also expensive i really liked Oslo so you should have a great time
sexbelowsound
Depending on how long you are in Oslo for I would seriously recommend you look to take the train journey to Bergen. Its 7 hours long but its the most amazing train ride i've ever been on. Bergen is also a beautiful city.
Demitri_C
My mate just got back from oslo he said it was ridiculously expensive which was a shame as he loved it, and I have always wanted to go

Xela
Thanks folks. Don't have enough time there for side trips, however lovely Bergen looks Looking forward to it, despite the beer prices!
Popular Post Xela
Had an enjoyable 2 nights in Oslo Got to my hotel about 5pm on the Friday - Radison Blu Scandanavia, right by the Royal Palace. Used the airport express train from the main Oslo airport. Very efficient. Had a meal at an Italian opposite the hotel (La Cucina) and then hit a few bars not a million miles away. Ended up here for a few hours. Atmosphere was good, everyone very friendly and very very drunk! http://eilefs.no/ Left there about midnight and went to the main drag and popped in to Hard Rock Cafe bar for a drink. Only stayed for one. Felt proper moody in there and the music was shit (thumping dance music). Called it a night after that as didn't want to be too drunk for the next day. Saturday was up early and pretty much walked the whole of the centre of the city. Took the route Tony suggested - start at the Palace then straight down the main drag and then over the Fortress by the sea, then all the way around to the harbour development - Aker Brygge. Full of bars and restaurants etc. Spent a few hours here on the afternoon having a couple of drinks and some lunch. Didn't do a boat trip as daylight hours are short at this time of the year. Had a slow walk back to the hotel and chilled out for a bit. Went back to Aker Brygge on the night for some food and drinks. Its a nice place, quite classy. Got refused entry into a bar because the doorman said "I am thinking you have had too many beers already". I'd had one and was sober :-( I think when I spoke to him he realised I was ok but didn't want to back down. Must have had a gormless look on my face when he first saw me! Bounced around a few more bars before finishing with a couple of cocktails in the hotel skybar. Was up earlyish as had a 10:50am flight home. Overall a decent weekend. I don't think i would go back and 2 nights was enough but I had a good time. The Norwegian people I spoke to were very friendly and helpful. The women were in the main very attractive. It is often said Oslo is the most expensive city in the world. It is a little bit pricey but didn't seem extortionate.

Zatman
Went to Oslo 5 years ago and well its as expensive as its hyped up to be. I went in the summer and it was great weather and a few nice parks can walk around. Its a good city but really small as I seen nearly everything I wanted in less than 2 days

Thank you mate appreciate it...i think I definitely recommend going between April and September when it’s not too cold. March and October can be okay, but more risky. Spring, summer and early autumn are all beautiful in Oslo.
