Villa finances: worst case scenarios

Quite a way off from what the prospectus estimated.

... None of the above are cheap.

never mind the fact that we have more than likely VASTLY  underachieved the expected commercial income this season due to pitiful performances. TV will be down, gates down, marketing down, corporate down. ...

So ... are we on a downward death-spiral? Have the wings come off?

I'd say they came off a while ago tbh!

What we are witnessing is the result of sustained austerity and a lot of awful decisions at board level.

If we do go down, it could be a disaster that lasts for some time.

So the irony could be we finally have got the finances on a even keel, and then could get relegated.

These seen like contradictory observations. Which is right? Just trying to get some clarity on where we stand financially ...

Look at the financial statement YE 2014 thread :)

We're basically breaking even, with the possibility of turning a decent profit if we stay up. Either way we should have money to sustainably invest in the squad. Investing for a promotion push after 5 cost cutting relegation battles would be a bitter pill to swallow when it looks like the hard work getting us to the point of sustainability has been done.

There was always a balance to strike with this cost cutting exercise.  RL went too far in cost cutting and now we will probably be relegated because of it.  Tbf to Lambert he has done a great job in that respect.

Lambert did well in respect to keeping us up (barely) & buying players that have improved the team for little money, on good contracts.

His biggest problem was knowing his best 11 and getting them to play effect football.

Worst case scenario if we go down?  Lerner cuts his losses and sells to the first bidder.  That bidder arrives in a fanfare declaring that he'll take the club back where it belongs.  6 months later he gets done for tax fraud (along with his associates) and all financial support is pulled.  No team investment proceeds, we sell players and we slope down the Championship table.  Things become worse when fans stop coming and the selling continues until we're in the bottom 3 of the Championship.  You can work out the rest.

(well you did ask).
