  1. If people are hell bent on us having an 30 years or older striker int the squad we might as well go for Raul or Del Piero? I know they are not as expensive as Grant Holt seeing as they are Bosmans, but they are even older than him so that has to count for something, right? But as they have not proven themself in the PL as Holt has, they are probably not any good...
  2. Forget about Holt and focus on other positions like defense and midfield. We have Bent, Gabby and Weimann up front, lets try getting someone like John Guidetti on loan for the season and spend whatever money we have were it's more needed.
  3. Houllier tried to deal with Dunne, Collins and Warnock by being hard and assertive. McLeish tried to deal with them by being soft and useless. They both failed to get them to perform at a acceptable standard and so will Lambert. The problem lies with the players not the manager, the only way we'll be successfull under Lambert is if he manages to get rid of those *insert insult here* in the back 4
  4. £3million maximum, 2 year contract maximum, and £25.000 wage maximum, otherwise it's a non starter for me. I honestly don't wan't him at Villa as it would partly confirm my fears of (Lam)Bert having the same transfer ideology as MON
  5. To be honest fuse these were my gripes, but as usual we are stuck with it so we will have to back him. I really thought we would have been smart enough to get a manager with some vibe to him who could bring that feel good factor back and have some creativity with transfers. We've gone the safe and boring route as usual, as I suspect this manager will. :? Your both what I hate about some Villa fans, never happy, never satisfied, part of the poisonous band of miserable gits that linger around Villa Park. Instantly on the clubs back. It makes no difference that football people, with knowledge and experience, rate him as one of the best young managers around. No, lets be upset at the fact he doesn't tell jokes at his press conferences, and he's not from Brazil and called Paulinio Lamberto. Everyones has a right to an opinion, but there's a bunch at Villa that just need to do one. Oh, I'm sorry. So because I am not cartwheeling down the road at the appt of Lambert as I wanted us to be more ambitious and progressive and this is different to your opinion, I should do one? Why don't you stop being such a self righteous clearing in the woods and do one yourself? Im surpriced villan_007 didn't throw in a few "fickle" and som "bluenose" while he was ranting. Isn't that how it's usually done when people disagree on VT?
  6. Sadly that's how i feel too, but people seem really excited so hopefully it'll all work out for us and our new? scottish manager
  7. 30+ with only 1 (very good) top flight season, probably quite expensive and with no resale value, i'd skip on Grant Holt. If we're hell bent on signing brittish again i'd rather we gambled on Jordan Rhodes, not that he's anywhere near the top of my list of transfer targets...
  8. I think people have only commented on it being funny because a Norwich fan called TS saying Norwich are bigger than us. We never said Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool were smaller than us. We were just bitter that they were leaving and most of us said that they wouldn't get half as much game time (and we were right). I'm fairly sure there was some people claiming we were/are bigger than Man C when Barry left and that Downing to Liverpool would be a sideway step for him. It's funny how easy it is to justify stealing players and manager from other clubs when it's not us being robbed. I got no complains, thats just how football works, big fish eat small fish. This time we are the bigger fish so if people wan't to be smug about it that's fine, just don't whine the next time a big club comes in for one of our players
  9. Ah yes, the situation with the Norwich fans being upset is nothing like us whining when Barry, Milner, Downing and Young left...
  10. Or Hulk... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hulk_(footballer)
  11. We`re not going to get the ones from above us are we. Same old no thinking no brain villa fan. Yes lets limit our search to that tiny island in the atlantic, after all it's the centre of our flat earth
  12. LeBron James had an entire televised special in Cleveland to announce he was going to play for Miami.... LeBron James is "the new Michael Jordan" sic, or the Lionel Messi of Basketball. The biggest name in the NBA. Roberto Martinez is at the most a towel-boy in the world of football, not sure he merits his own televised special or PC for that matter... Now if Messi were to move im sure the media cover would beat anything we've ever seen in football You miss the point of what I was saying. I'm not saying that Martinez deserves the attention, I'm saying that James had the PC in Cleveland even though he was leaving his hometown for Miami. So just because Martinez is having his press conference at Wigan doesn't mean he's staying. Ah, sorry. Yes i think your quite right. A PC in Wigan doesn't rule out that he's leaving. It could just as easily mean he want's to explain his decision to the Wigan fans at their home turf as a sign of respect to them. Or then again he might be staying, who knows?

  14. Just think what wonderful L.A gangsta merchandise we could have had if we signed Solskjaer. Aston Villa OG:s and so on. It's even easy to do one of those soo cool finger signs spelling AV  Oh what could have been...
  15. Given and Friedel were never "world class", good PL keepers but far from the worlds best keepers. Swapping Brad for Given is like for like but the money spent on Given is just silly.
  16. Southgate and K-Mac, that'll bring the buzz back to Villa Park...
  17. "Emile Heskey was so upset at being released by Aston Villa that he went on a shooting spree in Birmingham. No one was hurt..:)"
  18. He must be kidding himself... :winkold: I bet he is bleating about it too! Sheep bastard!!
  19. "Svennis" is hopelessly outdated but in his prime (80s-90s)he was among the best managers in the world. He enjoyed massive success with IFK Göteborg, Benfica and Lazio.
  20. Because he did very well at porto and seems to be a good football manager. He came 1st in a 2 horse race with a superior squad. Then did nothing at Chelsea and cost them their CL status (assuming they dont win the final). From Wiki: At the start of the 2009–10 season, Villas-Boas left Mourinho's support team to pursue a career as manager, and he soon found a job in the Primeira Liga with Académica de Coimbra, filling a vacancy created by Rogério Gonçalves' resignation in October 2009. At the time of Villas-Boas' appointment, Académica were at the bottom of the league and still without wins, but their luck started to change as he introduced a new style, leading them to a safe 11th place, ten points clear of the relegation zone. In addition to that, Académica also reached the 2009–10 Portuguese League Cup semi-finals, losing against Porto at the Estádio do Dragão with a late goal from Mariano González. His impact at Académica was immediate, not only because of solid results, but also because of the attractive football displayed by the team, which led to intense media speculation linking him with the vacant jobs at Sporting Clube de Portugal and Porto in the summer of 2010. Porto Villas-Boas was announced as the new Porto manager on 2 June 2010. On 7 August 2010, he won his first trophy when Porto beat Benfica 2–0 in the Portuguese Supercup. He followed this with three more titles: the Portuguese Primeira Liga, the UEFA Europa League and the Portuguese Cup. Porto finished the league season undefeated, with 27 victories and 3 draws. He became the third youngest coach to win the Primeira Liga, and the youngest manager ever to win a European competition, by winning the UEFA Europa League on 18 May 2011 at the age of 33 years and 213 days. On 21 June 2011 Villas-Boas tendered his resignation as manager of Porto. Yeah he's useless...
  21. Add new user - Default Name. Take over Man City, Cancel Friendlies and then make them buy all our crappy, expensive players. Resign Default user and Im good to go with £80m transfer kitty at Aston Villa. Sign: Marco Verratti, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Sime Vrsaljko, Milan Badelj, Jelle Vossen, Salvatore Bocchetti, Jan Vertonghen, Dusan Tadic and a few more... It's not that hard people! Seriously thou pretty much everything at our club needs a look over. From staff and squad, training, scouting, rules of conduct... EVERYTHING It's a mammoth task for whoever is our next manager and unless he or she (not likelly) gets the right backing from Lerner we will fail again. It will take huge investments to make anything more than cosmetic changes, lets just hope Lerner is up for it
