Emery was my dream appointment just because of the job he's done at clubs below the super clubs (Villarreal might be yet another level or 2 below that tbf). Not saying anyone could have success at PSG, Man C, Barca, Real and so on but that's a different job. Building something at a big but not huge club takes something else and Villa/Emery seemed like a perfect fit. His time at Arsenal was also great in the regard that it was an impossible job but a job where he learned a lot and likely left him with something to prove to himself. I've wanted a true tactician for Villa for ages, not some buzz word "pashun" who got stumped every time the opponent adapted at ht. Didn't for a moment dream we'd develop this much this fast and a lot of credit needs to go to the owners for backing him with transfers and salaries. Just the obvious thing that he demanded and was allowed to bring the entire coaches group that he wanted. Remember the good old days when we had to wait 6 months for the manager to get some random assistant and coaches in. Not great that. There will always be set backs but by now even the batten down the hatches and kick it towards the tall guy crowd will have built up enough trust in what he's doing to allow him the time to sort those out. Right?

Quietly having a solid season despite spending a lot of time on the bench after refusing to sign a new deal with PSG. 43 goals and 10 assist in 43 games all competitions is not bad.

If anything it feels like yet another place holder badge that will be gone withing a couple years. They didn't like the round one (fair enough I guess) but had more important things to focus on (also fair) so went with something that was already there and just tweaked it a bit. Shame it was the terribly designed Lerner badge with a bright yellow lion on light blue which is just a terrible combination. We might as well have a monkey juggling snickers bars riding a bicycle as a lion on it because it's impossible to make out unless you are right next to it in the exact right light. Is it possible to have done a good job in increasing our sponsor deals with Adidas & Betano (with the help of Nas Adidas connections and Emery on pitch performances) while also have done a poor job in communicating/explaining the 180 on the stadium rebuild & the badge re-brand re-branding saga (with perhaps a shoddy hand from Purslow) and the comical (subjective) AV150 logo launch no launch?

Brighton and Brentford scouting Betis winger Assane Diao Wonder if we are too? Certanly been a cheaper option compared to Nico Williams (€20m difference in release clause) although at 18 with only 1 season in La Liga he'd be more of a project than the finished article. From the times I watched Betis this season he's looked really interesting even thou some of it has been sub appearances.

It's a thing to look at in regards to who is playing and who is not, and to who's might be out the door, or in Not all players will thrive in such a tactical and analytical heave environment and some might take longer than others to adapt (have thought this about Duran but that's based on nothing really). Could you imagine Gabby sitting through hours and hours of video analyses or understanding a meticulous tactical drilling.
