I think they will miss Schlupp and Mahrez today, two of their better players. Hopefully their replacements, Albrighton and Knockaert, will be a little rusty.

Young was 19 and on the up. Frankly this guy is 25 and after a pretty poor loan at the bog rolls seems to have faded somewhat. Would prefer a better prospect. He reminds me a bit of Routledge. Loads of loan deals and promise here and there. When given an actual run at a club though (both at Swansea) they've become very good players. Routledge never got a sniff at Villa Park but he would walk into the side now. It's like we are afraid to give players a chance in case they are not ready or rusty - annoys me immensely. Same with Grealish and Robinson not getting into a poor side.

It would be a gamble but if he stayed fit he's miles better than any of our midfielders

Abou Diaby anyone? Might be available for a loan you never know

A cup run could help to capture our imagination again. I'm fed up of the club merely existing to stay in the Premiership and not have a real crack at a cup.

I think getting either Sinclair/Joel Campbell/Salah would be a good thing even if they haven't played much. They have at some point been good enough for the big sides to sign them but have come against massive competition for places. Pretty hard to get in ahead of Silva, Nasri, Navas etc. Sinclair would be far more effective out wide than Weimann or Gabby IMO.

Feeling slightly pessimistic as we are not scoring enough goals. If we end up in the bottom three after our tough run and we have to go and try and win under even more pressure then we may come up short. We need a couple of players in this window.

Maybe we should give Calum Robinson a run as well. He would be more determined than any of the front three to play!

Lacking quality in the final third. Cole on for Cleverly could change things as well as Grealish on the wing. Benteke isn't making it happen either, he needs a kick up the arse.

Previous Championship (or even lower division) players; Charlie Austin, Ashley Young, Schnederlin, Lallana, Westwood, Ings, Oxlade Chamberlain and loads more I can't be bothered to type. Sure there have been players from lower divisions that haven't worked out but to say none of them have the creativity we need is nonsense. There are players in Championship sides that would get into our XI.

Harry Arter seems really good for Bournemouth - would be nice to have some goals coming from midfield. Or some goals from anywhere for that matter. Bakary Sako on the wing?

Lack of width and lack of pressing were the problems for me. Either we swap Okore for Weimann and previously mentioned or we put Agbonlahor and Cleverly wide bringing Delph more central.

The only way we're going to get top players at Villa Park is by signing up and coming players. E.g Benteke. Often we will never have heard of them or they will be unproven in the PL but I'd much rather have a punt. Otherwise we will spend far too much on average players like in the MON era. Anyone know of any good up and coming players in the Belgian or Dutch leagues? As long as I've supported the villa we've always been dire over the Christmas fixtures, my birthday is the 28th of december & im yet to see us win a game that day. I'm sure I went to a game about 10 years ago on December 28th and we beat Fulham 3-0 2003. 11 years ago, not 10...... feels more like 3 or 4 years ago. Remember being at the back of the Holte and Vassell burying a cross for 3-0. What ever happened to Vassell? I looked at his wiki and he hasn't had a club for 2 years despite being only 34 now. Surely good enough for the lower leagues?

I like this but I'd drop Gabby and put Bacuna on the wing with Cleverley in the middle. Gabby has been poor lately IMO but coming off of the bench could be a threat.

Is this lol? If this were football manager which it isn't! I would have janujaz on loan and dembele. If we sold Delph for 15m I'd buy cleverley for 5m and spend the other ten on a wide forward We won't get £15m for a player with 6 months left on his contract. If he had 2 years left on it he would be worth that. The club should do its upmost to keep Delph as he will be really difficult to replace but if he wants a wage outside of our capabilities he will have to go. If this is the case then it is poor management as they should have known about this a long time ago - we could have sold him in the summer for a reasonable fee. I think signing Cleverly permanently would be good. Salah OR Janujaz on loan would be decent but nothing more. A short term help for us but also for their parent club. Personally I think we should wait till the injured players are back and give some more game time to the youngsters. I'm disappointed not to sure more of Grealish and Robinson as they've shown great promise on loan. Why bring them back to sit on the bench?

If Cleverly is unavailable we'll either have to go with an 80% ready Delph, Chris Herd who hasn't played in ages or go with two in the middle (Sanchez and Richardson). Then play with N'Zogbia or Grealish. Would be very attacking if the latter but the midfield battle would be tricky.
